00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest updates from the Met Office. Sunday has kicked off
00:05to a fairly windy, blustery start for many of us. We've recorded gusts of 50 to 60 miles
00:09per hour across the northern half of the UK already this morning. Because the winds are
00:14coming in from a south-westerly direction, most of the strongest gusts are to the lee
00:18of higher ground, so to the north-east of any higher ground areas. This does bring the
00:22risk of significant crosswinds to some roads such as the A1M, so there is a yellow wind
00:28warning in force for parts of north-east England and south-east Scotland. Some travel
00:32disruption is possible due to the strong winds today, so do take care. Why are the winds
00:36so strong? Well, if we take a look at the pressure chart, we can see there's a very
00:39tight squeeze in the isobars across the UK. This area of high pressure in the south and
00:43this frontal system in the north are essentially pushing their way towards each other, creating
00:47that squeeze in the isobars. This weather front is very slow moving. It has provided
00:51significant amounts of rainfall throughout Saturday and will continue to provide heavy
00:55persistent rainfall to western areas of Scotland, and there is an amber rain warning in force.
01:00Flooding landslides are possible, so again, do take care. England and Wales should stay
01:04largely drier, some clearer spells trying to poke their way through the cloud, particularly
01:07for eastern areas of the country. But underneath all the cloud for many of us, and with those
01:12fairly mild south-westerly winds, it is going to see temperatures fairly above average for
01:17the time of year. Most of us will be around 10 to 13 degrees Celsius. The strong winds
01:24and the rain will slowly abate as we head into this evening and overnight. It's still
01:29going to be quite blustery for many of us, and the rain will be pushing its way southwards.
01:33So whilst not as heavy as what we've seen throughout the day, there will be still outbreaks
01:36for Northern Ireland, North West England spreading into western areas of Wales as well. Far south-east
01:41of England staying largely dry, but another cloudy and mild night to come here. Further
01:46towards north-western Scotland, we'll see some clearer spells pushing their way into
01:49the early hours of Monday morning, and here also some fairly fresher and cooler conditions.
01:53So a cooler night around 7 degrees Celsius here, but elsewhere, once again, high single
01:58figures if not low double digits as your lows for the overnight period. The start of the
02:04new working week then looks like a fairly grey, drab and damp day for the vast majority
02:09of us. Further outbreaks of rain, particularly for western areas. Those in the east may stay
02:14a bit drier. The rain will be lighter and patchier in places. And into parts of Scotland,
02:20then Northern Ireland, as we head into the afternoon, there will be some drier, brighter
02:24conditions developing. The winds also easing out here. Just got to watch out for that band
02:28of showers pushing into the highlands far north and western Scotland later on. Again,
02:32it is going to be the far north and west that sees those cooler conditions pushing their
02:35way in. So highs here around 9 degrees Celsius, but underneath the cloud and the rain elsewhere,
02:41another mild day. Once again, 12, 13 degrees Celsius. The rain will continue to push its
02:47way slowly southwards as we head throughout the rest of the day. Again, this band of rain
02:51in the north pushing its way into other areas of Scotland. Our eyes then turn to this portion
02:56of rain that's moving in from the southwest. This is going to slowly push its way in as
02:59we head throughout Tuesday. England and Wales really fearing the brunt of that. But then
03:04into the rest of the week, it's this northwesterly flow of air that stems its way across the
03:08whole of the UK. Notice again, though, those isobars are fairly tightly spaced together,
03:13so further strong winds are possible throughout the rest of the week. Gales potentially severe
03:17gales around at times, so do stay up to date with the forecast. We'll have plenty more
03:21on that as we head over the next few days. So subscribe to the YouTube channel and we'll
03:24see you again very soon. Bye bye.
