Transcript
00:00Hello there. Welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04It's the 20th of March. Now through today, cloudy for most away from the northwest.
00:09We'll see some outbreaks of rain as well. The rain will weaken through the afternoon
00:13as it slowly pushes towards the North Sea and the Low Countries.
00:17And then quieter weather into Wednesday night before wet and windy weather
00:21arrives from the northwest on Thursday.
00:24For the time being, a little showery rain can't be ruled out across northern Scotland.
00:29Cloudy with some patchy rain and drizzle for Aberdeenshire and Angus.
00:33Now across more southern parts of Scotland, that's outbreaks of rain which could be persistent,
00:37particularly across Tyne and Wynne, Northumberland towards Cumbria.
00:41Rain across the far south-east of Northern Ireland, so for the likes of Manor
00:45as well as Tyrone, you could get away with a bright start.
00:48The rain could be quite persistent across western parts of Wales
00:51and it will extend towards mid-Wales through the day.
00:54Some patchy rain where the cloud is thick enough across central southern England,
00:57east Anglia as well as Lincolnshire, but here the rain will always be patchy
01:01and there will be cloud breaks allowing for some brighter weather.
01:05So through this morning we watch as this band of cloud and rain continues in this position.
01:11Now the rain could pep up again across the northwest of England through the morning,
01:16also extending down towards Wales. The rain comes and goes across northern counties of England
01:21and notice towards the south a little bit of showery rain but the cloud will break, some sunshine.
01:26Sunshine extends across the whole of Northern Ireland, central and western areas of Scotland
01:30through the afternoon, feeling warm in that sun, but along this east coast with an onshore breeze
01:35feeling cold, 8 or 9 degrees Celsius and rather damp here as well.
01:39We could squeeze an 18 down towards the south-east, a warm end to the day
01:43helped with a little bit of mid-March sunshine.
01:47Now through Wednesday evening and overnight any rain tends to dry up
01:51and then where we see clearer skies we could see a touch of frost before
01:55more cloud arrives around midnight and then outbreaks of rain across Northern Ireland
01:59and western Scotland to start the day on Thursday.
02:02Elsewhere, yes it's a quiet end to the night.
02:06Temperatures a bit lower than what they have been, 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, chilly across eastern Scotland
02:11and again thicker clouds here in the odd spot or two of rain.
02:14So it's a wet and windy morning across much of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:18This bank of cloud and rain extends southwards and eastwards through the day.
02:23Winds will be a feature as well, particularly across Scotland where we could see gusts in excess of 50 mph
02:28and the air turns colder, pushing ever south-eastwards.
02:32So through Thursday morning, mostly dry from Yorkshire southwards, much of Wales, away from the far north-west.
02:37Ireland seeing some rain through the morning and this is the back edge to that cold front
02:41and the winds will pick up further here as that rain all spreads across Scotland
02:45and some patchy rain for Northern England as well.
02:48One or two filaments could extend down as far south as Lincolnshire
02:51but to the south of that we'll see some broken clouds and some sunshine
02:54and yet again temperatures on the up, 15, 16, 17 degrees Celsius colder in the north-west
03:00and that pretty much sets the scene for Friday as well as the weekend
03:03with blustery showers but also a little sunshine.
