00:00Hi everyone, Matt Watson here. So this is my Suzuki Jimny, completely standard, however I'm
00:05going to change the look of it and I'm going to add some extra features to it by fitting a load
00:09of approved Suzuki accessories. That's why I've come back to WJ King Suzuki here in Bromley to
00:16get the work done and in this video I'm going to talk you through the different bits I'm adding
00:19and why I'm adding them and then show you what it looks like afterwards.
00:24Hey I'm back at Suzuki Bromley here to pick up my Jimny with its accessories fitted. I'm excited
00:35and nervous because I'm not entirely sure whether I've done the right thing, whether I should have
00:38just left it as standard because it looked pretty good standard. Here's one that's standard,
00:42though it is in the bright yellow. Should I have had a yellow one rather than a black one?
00:47Let me know in the comments below. This is a used one, it's a 20 plate, it's only done 20 miles
00:52and it's up for £23,744. So they're selling over list because they're just so popular and obviously
01:00you can't buy them now because of emissions rules. Suzuki's stopped importing them to Europe,
01:05though you will be able to get a commercial vehicle version of it in about a year or so
01:09but that won't have back seats or anything. Actually should I just sell mine? I'm not going
01:12to sell mine but I am going to go check it out. Better don my mask. Where is it? Where's my
01:16mask? Covid, fun and games. Right, let's go, pay for my accessories, then check out the car.
01:24We're ready. Now I'm going to pay for my accessories. Here's the list of them here. I'm
01:30not going to go through them, I'm not going to show you the detail because I'm going to reveal
01:33them as I go through the video and the total cost. But I do now need to pay the man
01:41and last time I tried to pay John for the car itself we got into a lot of problems.
01:47Go on, been accepted. Is it going to do it? There you go John.
01:53Or am I going to have to have an annoying phone call to my bank? Not authorised.
01:59It went through first time. That's right. So now let's find out exactly what you've done to the
02:06car. Let's go and have a look shall we? Let's go check it out because I'm a bit worried that
02:12I've ruined it. You see, I liked it all black, like stealth.
02:19Oh my gosh. Okay. Okay. Yes. Hey, don't show them yet. We're going to cut now. I want to explain
02:29what I've done exactly. Let's start with the changes here at the front. The most noticeable
02:34is this, the new grille, which is sort of retro in design and says Suzuki written rather than
02:40just the Suzuki badge. This grille fitted £300, which is actually good value. Another upgrade at
02:46the front is this silver trim here. So that fitted, that's £500 and it does lift the front.
02:52I think it looks good. I've also got silver trim at the sides to match. That fitted on both sides,
02:58£550. And then up here you'll notice I've got the Suzuki roof rack for that proper lifestyle SUV
03:07Now you can get nicer roof racks than this, bigger ones, more impressive ones, but I thought I'd just
03:11get the official one and it's only £300 fitted. My favourite accessory is this, the hard spare
03:17wheel case cover. This chrome on it just lifts the back end of this car, makes it look a lot
03:21more expensive than it really is. Now I almost didn't go for this. I'm glad I did though. It was
03:25only £300. Another accessory I've got, mudflaps, essential for an SUV that is a proper off-roader.
03:32I'm going to be off-roading this, honest. Now I'm glad I didn't have to fit these myself because
03:35it involves drilling stuff and I'd have got that all wrong. They'd have been all wonky. Price-wise,
03:40£250 fitted, not too bad. As well as those exterior styling accessories, I've also fitted
03:46some other extras to the outside of this car, including diff protectors. So they're a real
03:51nightmare to fix. You have to disassemble part of the diff, then bolt them in place and like you
03:56get oil everywhere and all that kind of stuff. So I'm glad I didn't do that myself. They're quite
04:00expensive fitted, the two of them, front and rear, £900. But I do plan to take this off-roading so
04:05that could protect some of the car's mechanicals if I hit a rock or something. For £220, I thought
04:11I may as well have a tow bar fitted. It's got the full electrical connection as well. And this car
04:15has a towing capacity of 1,300 kilos, so I could maybe get a jet ski or something if I could ever
04:22get it fitted. Oh, there we go. I've had a couple of upgrades here to the inside of the car. Floor
04:28mats. It's crazy to think they're not standard. And a leather gear knob. So the floor mats plus
04:32fitting, £100. Gear knob plus fitting, £200. You might be thinking, what kind of fitting do you have
04:39to do for those? Surely you just throw the mats in and screw this on. Well, no. The mats are a bit
04:43of a fuss, especially the driver's one, because you have to fit these special grommets. And the gear
04:48knob is a right palaver by all accounts. So I'm glad I didn't have to do it myself.
04:53The last accessory I had fitted was the rear parking system. So you've got reversing sensors,
05:00but also a camera. It's £450 for that setup. Thing is, the image from the reversing camera
05:07is terrible. The angle's all a bit wrong, and the image itself is just so washed out,
05:13and the graphics as bad as you'd expect from a mobile phone from 2005. Still, hopefully,
05:19it'll stop me reversing into things. The total retail price of all those accessories fitted
05:23comes to around £5,000, which is about a quarter of the car's retail price as standard,
05:29because it starts from about £19,500 for this SZ5 model. Seems a bit extravagant, really,
05:35doesn't it? But I think the upgrades really enhance the look of this car. So I'm going to
05:40give you a before and an after shot for you to compare. Have a good look. What do you reckon?
05:46Was it worth it? I reckon it is, but let me know what you think in the comments below.
05:51Now you all might be thinking, what are you doing, Matt, paying £25,000 for a Suzuki Jimny? Are you
05:55mad? Well, these things are in high demand, and someone actually offered me £27,000 for this car
06:02as standard before the accessories, even before I bought it. I don't want to sell it. I want to
06:07keep it. I want to do lots of content on it. I'm going to do stuff such as tune it, lift it,
06:10and things like that. In fact, if you want to see what I plan to do, click on the pop-out banner
06:14up there to go check out my video where I talk through all the different things I plan to do
06:18with my Jimny. Oh, I forgot to introduce you to my girlfriend, Jo, who's driving,
06:22and this is her first time driving it, isn't it? It is, yes. I'm a little bit nervous.
06:26You're a bit nervous? Yes. So you've been driving around in a £150,000 Mercedes G63,
06:32and you're nervous about driving £25,000 worth of Jimny? Yes, because it's brand new. I don't
06:38think I've ever driven a brand new car before. Well, it's only done 36 miles on it, so we have
06:43to run it in. Running it in, how boring. 600 miles, you've got to just go easy on it, so no
06:50revving it all the way up to the red line. Just taking it easy, not hard on the brakes for the
06:54first 200 miles. It is a 20 here, and people are overtaking. It's a learner as well. You don't
06:58want to labor the engine. Okay. So better to be in a lower gear with slightly higher revs than
07:02having the car struggling along because that's really bad for it when you're running it in.
07:06We are definitely doing 20, aren't we? We are, yes. Cars are just overtaking us. It's a 20,
07:11and they're just overtaking us, but it's quite easy to overtake this because it's so narrow.
07:15So how are you finding it? I love it. It's like driving a little dinky toy. But it's got to be
07:20easier than that big Jeep, which is super wide. Yes, definitely. I think parking it as well might
07:24be a little bit easier. Now that I've got the parking camera, that'll help. So you were the
07:29one that suggested I get this colour because I was going to go for one of those Chiffon Ivory ones?
07:33No. If you want it to look cool, it had to be black. I think you're right, actually. Especially
07:38with the accessories on, it looks better in black. Definitely. What do you lot think? Did I get it
07:43right? Well, did she get it right? Let me know in the comments below. Do you want to try four-wheel
07:50drive? Okay. Let me just pull over and see. Put the clutch in. You don't want to be making those
07:57noises on a brand new car. All right, sorry. Grinding the gears already. Try it again.
08:02So just push it down? No, it's not pushing it down.
08:05So pull it back hard like that. Put it into neutral.
08:11This is flashing green. That's it. It wasn't before though, was it? No, it wasn't.
08:14That's what made the grinding noise. Is this going to be fun? So we're going to run it in
08:20by basically grinding away the gears. So now four-wheel drive. Hell yeah. Then I reckon we
08:27should try four-wheel drive low range mode. Does that actually make a difference driving
08:30around town though? No, it actually reduces your fuel economy. Oh, does it? Yeah, because you're
08:36driving the front wheels as well as the rears. Oh, I just thought it's used more. No, that's
08:41what I mean. It reduces your fuel economy. Oh, yeah, yeah. Okay, sorry. Let's try low range and
08:47pull over here. So put it into neutral again. So this is the one where you have to press it to
08:52push that down. So put your foot on the clutch though. You're changing gear, remember? Yeah,
08:56sorry. Okay. Now what do I do? I think I... Do you want to drive? No, I don't. Go on. You just
09:05pull it back. So push down and it says all the sensors and stuff are off because you're
09:10now in low range mode. Now have a little drive of it now. So what does this actually do to the car?
09:16Yeah, I've engaged it. Oh, sorry. This is not making my driving look very good, is it? No,
09:21do you know what? I think when you're driving it on your own, you're probably not going to be
09:23using four-wheel drive. Try it now. No. This is not working. There, it's in now. Yeah,
09:30you have to be more forceful with it, Jo. I don't want to be forceful with it. There we go. Look at
09:34that. Change gear now. See, it's not really going very quick, is it? No. It's because you're in low
09:42range. So what does that actually do then? It means that you increase your wheel torque because
09:47it's like taking your gears and making them like half what they were. So second gear is like first
09:54gear. Firstly, it's like half first gear. Why do you do that? Because it means that you get more
09:58traction for when you're going up real steep slopes. If you're off-roading it, you want to go
10:02slowly. You can really just chug along very slowly, like in first or second gear. It gives
10:07you more control. So if you were going down a steep hill? Yeah, you'd do that. Although this
10:10has hill descent control where it will engage its brakes as you're going downhill. So we get
10:14out of low range mode now. So now go on, have a go. I'm in neutral. I've got the clutch in.
10:19That's four-wheel drive mode now. Yeah. Let's go to two-wheel drive. Push it up. Not down. No,
10:23not down. Just up. Try it now. Just engage first. See if it works. It's flashing green. I know
10:28that's gone off now. Yeah. So now you're in two-wheel drive mode. So this is what we were
10:31in to begin with. Yeah. And it's rear-wheel drive when you're in two-wheel drive mode.
10:35So can you drift this? You could if it had more power. So that's one of the things I might do
10:40is put a supercharger on it. So that obviously makes it go faster. Like the Mazda. The super
10:45fast roller skate on wheels. So what do you think of it then? I love it. Really love it. As much as
10:50the G-Wagon for sure, if not more than. No. You love the G-Wagon. So if I said to you,
10:58Jo, which would you rather have, the G63 or this little Jimny? You would take the Jimny.
11:02For around town, yeah. Why not? I thought you liked an automatic. I do, but if I was going
11:08long distance, I'd obviously take the G-Wagon. But around town, this is much more fun and you
11:13can park it because it's not so huge. I mean, the G-Wagon is just massive, wasn't it? And the colour
11:19of this is obviously better. What? Oh yeah. I don't feel like Postman Pat anymore. Postman Pat,
11:26Postman Pat, Postman Pat and his black and white cat. Anyway, listen, if you want to find out more
11:32about what I'm going to do with this car, then please subscribe to this channel. Hit the bell
11:35icon to turn your notifications on. That way you won't miss any of the uploads. And if you click
11:40over there or maybe over there, I'm not sure which side I'm going to put it on yet. You'll
11:43be able to watch some more of my videos. So click on those. See you next time. Can we stop going
11:49around in circles now? Let's stop going around in circles. Brilliant.
