00:00BMW has shared its impressive new range of 2023 plug-in hybrid and electric models.
00:07Depending on your tastes, be tempted by the lower-end efficient or the higher-end luxurious
00:12models. Better yet, you can get something in the middle which has both style and performance.
00:192023 BMW i4
00:23The i4 version has the newest version of BMW's kidney grille which is finished in black glossy
00:29paint. Its low-slung three-box look is refreshing after seeing a slew of aggressively styled two-box
00:36SUVs. BMW i4 is built on top of the cluster architecture and different engines are used
00:42in the i4 M50 and eDrive40. The first is rear-wheel drive and has a single rear-axle
00:49mounted electric motor that generates 335hp and 317lb-ft. The second is FWD and has two
00:58electric motors, one in the front and one in the back. The EPA estimates its range as 301 miles
01:04on 18-inch wheels and 282 miles on 19-inch wheels for the MY2022 models when coupled with an 81.5
01:12kWh battery. A 300-mile range is expected for the 2023 i4 eDrive40. In just 5.5 seconds,
01:21the car accelerates from 0 to 60 mph and it can reach 118 mph on the open road.
01:27The price is estimated to be upwards of $60,000.
01:33BMW iX3 With the iX3, BMW has forged its own path,
01:40eschewing the high-output and all-wheel-drive arrangement found in many of its competitors.
01:45The pure electric SUV seems nimbler and more agile than you'd anticipate from a vehicle of
01:50this type, and most of its rivals can't even come close to matching its performance-to-efficiency
01:55ratio. It can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds thanks to its 282 horsepower,
02:03yet you can be able to get up to 3.5 mph when driving it.
02:07The end result is a regular driving range of about 260 miles, which is close to the
02:13official WLTP cycle range of 279 miles. iX3's battery life isn't a concern,
02:20since it can recharge from 0 to 80% in 27 minutes at 150 kW ultra-rapid chargers and
02:27from empty to full in 12 hours at 7 kW wallboxes. The price is estimated to be around $65,000.
02:372023 BMW i5 A new mid-size electric vehicle,
02:43the BMW i5 is expected to be the company's most significant car introduction in the coming years.
02:49It will get the same treatment as the BMW i4 and the BMW i7. The CLAR platform and powertrains will
02:57be retained for the 2023 generation. A single electric motor producing 250 kW and an 80.7 kWh
03:06battery pack will be used in the G60 i5's entry-level model, which will be capable of going
03:11over 310 miles on a single charge. There will be a base model, the i5 M50, and an i5 xDrive40,
03:19the latter of which is expected to have two electric motors making it more powerful.
03:24The i5 M50 will employ the same motors as the i4 M50, resulting in 544 hp or 400 kW.
03:33You may expect a 0 to 100 kph speed of fewer than 4 seconds and a range of more than 310 miles.
03:41The price estimate is projected to be around $70,000 to $75,000.
03:472023 BMW 1 Series The new plug-in hybrid model of the BMW's
03:541 Series hatchback, which has been in production since 2019, is now undergoing electrification by
04:00the automaker. While the revised 1 Series hatchback isn't expected to arrive in the
04:05United States until 2023, the xDrive25e of the departing X1 might serve as a basis for
04:12a future plug-in hybrid version of the 1 Series for BMW. However, the upcoming BMW iX1 will prove
04:20that the platform is suitable for zero-emission drivetrains when it goes into production.
04:24In any case, the M135i xDrive will continue to provide the highest level of performance
04:30among the available options. It's probable that the 1 Series makeover may introduce hybrid
04:35technology for the first time in some manner. Based on the 10 kWh battery-supported configuration
04:41in the X1, the 1 Series engine lineup may be expanded to include a plug-in hybrid engine
04:47option. This would provide a range of at least 30 miles using solely electricity.
04:53The price is estimated to range at around $33,000.
04:562023 BMW iX1 Although only the xDrive28i trim
05:05level is available to American buyers, the 3rd generation BMW X1 is available in an all-electric
05:11configuration for European buyers, and when it goes on sale in Old Europe later this year,
05:16the iX1 will be the brand's first all-wheel-drive small electric vehicle. This vehicle has a
05:22completely electric drivetrain with two electric motors, one for each axle, and no combustion
05:27engines. As one of the most potent members of the X1 family, the iX1 delivers 313 hp or 230 kW
05:36and 364 lb-ft or 494 Nm as a total system output. BMW claims that the all-wheel-drive system would
05:45provide supreme traction and directional stability, and that it can accelerate from
05:490 to 62 mph in under 5.7 seconds. The electric energy is stored in a flat floor-mounted 64.7 kWh
05:59battery which should provide between 256 and 272 miles of driving range on a single charge.
06:05According to CurrentInfo, the cost will be roughly $40,000.
06:112023 BMW iX5 Although it appears as if hydrogen will
06:17always be the fuel of the future, BMW believes it is very close ready for primetime.
06:23With or without the hydrogen-powered SUVs, BMW is planning to roll out an iX5 hydrogen fleet
06:29later this year. Onboard hydrogen is stored in two 700-bar carbon fiber reinforced plastic tanks
06:36which are used to power a fuel cell beneath the hood. But for this 5,600-plus pound SUV,
06:42the fuel cell alone delivers 170hp which is not enough. Hence, because of this, BMW also
06:49uses a bigger electric drive battery that can be recharged using either the fuel cell or energy
06:54recovery. The total output of the drivetrain is 374hp which is more than sufficient.
07:01For comparison, the iX5 xDrive45e plug-in hybrid has 389hp. Regenerative brakes allow
07:09for one-pedal power control, making driving the iX5 hydrogen a lot like driving an electric vehicle.
07:15And in terms of exterior design, the only noticeable changes are a blue accent and
07:20closed-off exhaust housings. The price range is estimated to be upwards of $100,000.
07:282023 BMW i7 Where Mercedes-Benz goes,
07:33goes arch-rival BMW and vice versa. So it comes as no surprise that BMW is presenting the i7 as
07:41an all-electric flagship luxury sedan in the wakes of Mercedes unveiling Benz EQS,
07:47also known as the electric S-Class model. With two electric motors, one driving each axle,
07:53producing a combined 536hp, the i7's engine is identical to that of BMW's new EV SUV, the iX.
08:03For a vehicle of its size, all-wheel drive is standard and acceleration is quick.
08:08BMW boasts that the i7 xDrive60 can reach 60mph in 4.5 seconds. The EPA has yet to give an official
08:17estimate for the i7's range but BMW claims that it should be approximately 300 miles.
08:23It is claimed that the vehicle's massive 101.7kWh battery pack can be charged in as
08:28little as 10 minutes using DC fast charging stations. BMW is offering three years of free
08:3530-minute charging sessions at Electrify America charging stations with every new i7 model sold.
08:42The price range is estimated to be around $121,000.
