00:00Close to 48 percent, or nearly half of all those who signed up for a shot at a Senate seat in next

00:06year's midterm polls, have received the green light from the poll body as legit contenders.

00:12The president's anointed past muster to include the other outstanding favorites,

00:16the less popular ones, and the borderline obscure. Our Luisa Erispe has more.

00:22Months before the commission on election starts printing ballots for the 2025 elections,

00:30the poll body has released its initial and partial list of senatorial aspirants.

00:35Out of 183 who filed their candidacies, there are 66 who made it to the first cut.

00:52Based on the complex list, included are those endorsed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.,

01:00under Alianza para sa Bagong Pilipinas. Namely, former DILG Secretary Ben Hurabalos,

01:07boxing champ and former Senator Manny Pacquiao, and re-electionist Francis Tolentino,

01:12who's under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. Also included are Makati City Mayor Abby Binay,

01:17re-electionist Lito Lapid, Tito Soto, and guest candidate Panfilo Lacson,

01:22under Nationalist Peoples Coalition. Pia Cayetano, Camille Villar, and re-electionist Senator Aimee

01:28Marcos are also listed under the Nacionalista Party, as well as Representative Erwin Tulfo

01:33and re-electionist Senator Bong Revilla from La Casa CMD. Also included on the list are allies of

01:39former President Rodrigo Duterte, namely re-electionist Senator Christopher Bongo,

01:44Senator Bato de la Rosa, Raul Lambino, and actor Philip Salvador, under PDP Laban. Even the whole

01:51slate of Makabayan Coalition, led by Representative Franz Castro, made it to the list. Manibela

01:57Chairman Marval Buena also made a cut, and even disgraced KOJC leader Apollo Quibuloy. According

02:03to the COMELEC, for the other 117 not yet included, no one will be automatically delisted,

02:10but instead be given the chance to pass COMELEC muster, or be declared nuisance or pest candidates.

02:40The COMELEC explained their criteria for picking the aspirants include

02:56his or her political history, background of their supporters, their intent for running,

03:02and the political parties they belong to. No aspirant was judged based on financial stability.

03:10The poll body assured the public that before November ends, they will be releasing the

03:35official list of candidates. Meanwhile, Senator Francis Tolentino praised the efforts of COMELEC

03:42on its technical preparations for the polls, as well as for the first parliamentary elections
