00:00All right, for the past few years now, when it comes to gaming laptops or performance
00:08laptops in general that are graphics focused, there's been one brand that's dominated for
00:14like, I want to say like a decade, maybe even more.
00:16It's been NVIDIA.
00:17When it comes to laptop GPUs, NVIDIA has just taken that crown and held on to it firmly
00:23until today.
00:24So a few months ago, AMD let me know like, hey, you know, look out for June.
00:28We're going to be announcing something in June.
00:29You're going to want to take a look at it.
00:31It's going to be cool.
00:32It comes in, it's cool.
00:33So this is the 6800M laptop GPU and it's being announced alongside with the 6700M and a 6600M.
00:41And the short of it is this, this device with that 6800M is faster than an RTX 3070 by
00:48a pretty significant margin and very close to an RTX 3080.
00:53In some cases, it's better.
00:54In some cases, it's worse.
00:55It depends on the game that you're benchmarking, but it's very close to an RTX 3080.
00:59The best part of it all is that it's cheaper.
01:02It's cheaper than a 3080.
01:03It's even cheaper than a 3070 and that is special.
01:07So this device here is the first laptop available with one of these new AMD GPUs.
01:11It's the Asus Strix G15, they call it the Advantage Edition, and it's very similar
01:16to the regular Strix G15, except it's running an AMD GPU alongside with that AMD CPU.
01:22So let's just jump right into the benchmarks.
01:24This system outperforms an RTX 3070 handedly.
01:27There wasn't a single game or benchmark where the 3070 was able to beat the 6800M.
01:33And this is a cheaper product by about $150 to $200, depending on the system that you're
01:38looking at.
01:39And then when you compare it to an RTX 3080, this is still competitive.
01:44This device can keep up with the best laptop GPU from Nvidia, the RTX 3080.
01:48And it's strange to see.
01:50It's refreshing to see because when was the last time we saw a device that was this good
01:54coming out from AMD in terms of their laptop graphics?
01:57It's never been a thing, really.
01:59Like they've had good stuff, but not stuff that was competitive like this.
02:02The other thing is pricing.
02:05Because this whole device costs $1650, so $1650, and this isn't like the most expensive
02:11or the cheapest, it's just kind of a product, right?
02:14This is the first one that's launching with it.
02:16You can't get this performance for this kind of money when it comes to an Nvidia laptop.
02:19You cannot.
02:20Even if you go with like those off-brands, like the, you know, electronics that cover
02:24a lot of that stuff, you cannot get an RTX 3080 for $1650.
02:29It's not a thing.
02:30So to be able to deliver this kind of performance is awesome for the consumer.
02:33We're just going to see pricing drop down a little bit.
02:36Over the next little bit, we see the 6800M like this, 6700M, 6600M, they'll be in even
02:43cheaper devices than this one here, but I think they'll work to lower the pricing of
02:48gaming laptops in general, which I'm looking forward to.
02:50Because you've seen the pricing of some of those 30 series devices out there.
02:53It's pretty nuts.
02:55So promising, I really like to see this stuff, but there's a few concerns I have.
02:59So number one is supply.
03:02So when it comes to devices like this, like a new technology from AMD, in the first year
03:08when new AMD stuff launches, you don't see a lot of laptop manufacturers hopping on
03:12board right away.
03:14It does take a little bit of time.
03:15So it's possible that this year we don't see a lot of devices with these new AMD GPUs.
03:20I wish there were, but that's just the way brands seem to move when it comes to AMD products.
03:25The second thing is the technology.
03:28So if you are into ray traced graphics, or you like the stuff that DLSS offers for NVIDIA,
03:34you don't get quite the same level of support with AMD right now.
03:39So they did launch their new FSR, which is similar in idea to what NVIDIA has with DLSS.
03:43And it does support ray tracing, but I got to say, NVIDIA's ray tracing handles illumination
03:49and reflections just a little better to me than what AMD does.
03:53But the overall product is so good.
03:56You get great performance with good temperatures, respectable fan noise, doesn't have crazy
04:00power draw, you get smart access memory, you get AMD SmartShift so you can dynamically
04:04control your CPU and GPU pull.
04:06There's a lot of cool stuff going on in this system, and it's all for a very, very reasonable price.
04:11$1,650 for this kind of performance is excellent, like truly excellent.
04:16So if you're in the market for just a high-end gaming laptop, I would highly consider these devices.
04:23Now, keep in mind NVIDIA does have some advantages still.
04:25They do have better ray tracing support, if that matters to you.
04:28They also have better video encoding and decoding, if that matters to you.
04:32But does that really matter?
04:33How many ray traced games are you really playing?
04:35Like if you're asking yourself honestly.
04:37I play Minecraft, I love the ray traced graphics, but it's not like the only thing that matters, right?
04:42So when it comes to this kind of performance, yeah, yeah, they're back in the race.
04:49I like seeing this from AMD.
04:51Okay, hope you guys enjoyed this video.
04:52Thumbs if you liked it, subs if you loved it.
04:54I'll see you guys next time.
