00:00Okay, this video is a little bit different.
00:05I have prepared nothing.
00:07This is like, yeah.
00:09I came into work today and I thought I should do a video because this keyboard I get asked
00:13about a lot.
00:14It's a keyboard that comes up in my videos once in a while and I thought I should probably
00:17do a video on this and then I realized I can't do this thing without story time and then
00:22talking about some other keyboards.
00:24So story time.
00:25I get access to keyboards more than the average person.
00:29Companies sometimes send me keyboards and I like keyboards.
00:31I purchase them.
00:32So I will go through a little bit of like a, whatever.
00:36This is the keyboard that I used to use a lot, the Razer.
00:43I'm very prepared.
00:44The Razer BlackWidow Chroma X.
00:46I had the original one, like the one that didn't light up in different colors.
00:48It was called the Razer BlackWidow.
00:50I used that a lot and then when the Chroma X came out because it had colors, I picked
00:54it up.
00:55And then I decided that I wanted to build a custom keyboard.
00:58So this is the thing that comes up a lot in my videos.
01:02Wow, that is very overexposed.
01:04We'll see what we can do.
01:05So this was originally a black keyboard, a CM Storm Quickfire.
01:10So that's like a tenkeyless keyboard.
01:12It is fully customized.
01:13So what I did was I popped it open, I desoldered all of the switches on it and I put on new
01:19switches because I'm an idiot.
01:21And then I purchased, these are called GMK Cyan keycaps because I thought the keycaps
01:26would kind of go with the theme of my channel and these are like my favorite colors.
01:31And then I spray painted the casing white and then it still had a wire coming out of
01:36it and I thought this isn't going to do because I didn't like the wire.
01:40So I actually put an Arduino, basically this thing is wireless now.
01:46It's got a Bluetooth thing and a battery inside here that makes it wireless.
01:51Now, I enjoy the idea of it, but I don't think it's actually as good of a keyboard as I thought
01:56it would be when I was building it and spending like 15-20 hours constructing this thing.
02:00It was also horribly expensive to get all the parts and it's just not something I would
02:04recommend.
02:05But that's what it is, if you wanted to know.
02:07And then I also use this once in a while.
02:08This is a Razer, I believe it's called an Orinata, it's like one of their newer keyboards.
02:13I don't think it's a real mechanical keyboard, it's like a tactile membrane that sounds mechanical-like.
02:21But I don't think it classifies as a true mechanical keyboard.
02:24But the reason why I wanted to make this video at all was because of this new keyboard, this
02:28thing.
02:29This is the Microsoft Surface, I think it's just called the Microsoft Surface keyboard.
02:35And I didn't think it would be that cool, I actually purchased it, it's like 100 bucks,
02:39it wasn't cheap, 100 bucks American, and it doesn't look like a particularly special keyboard.
02:43But the more I used it, the more I loved it, and the fact that it had like proper wireless
02:47and the way that it integrates with Windows is awesome.
02:50Now, as for whether or not it's good for games, truthfully, I've never even tried it for games,
02:55but you know what?
02:57We have time.
02:58I'm actually going to play it off an XPS 15, because I'm just used to it.
03:02This is what I play Overwatch on most of the time, so that's how we're going to roll.
03:06Actually, before I get into the game, I should actually talk about the good things about
03:10the mouse and the keyboard.
03:11Alright, it's fully metal, it's very well made, the bottom has some rubber feet for
03:16grip, and it's battery-operated, so some wireless keyboards, especially the Apple ones,
03:20you can charge them up, this one is battery-operated still, and it uses Bluetooth for connectivity,
03:26there's no dongle or adapter that you need to connect up.
03:29Key travel is great, it feels really nice to type on.
03:31It's not backlit, which might be a deal-breaker for some people, but it's for your desktop,
03:35so I'm normally in properly lit areas.
03:37The volume and brightness keys work in Windows, which is pretty cool.
03:41There's really nothing that I dislike about the keyboard.
03:43I was used to the layout and everything about this keyboard from the moment I opened it,
03:47so yeah, I really recommend this thing if you're looking for a productivity-oriented
03:51device.
03:52It has this complementary mouse, complementary as in it goes with it, it doesn't come free
03:57with it.
03:59It's like a matching mouse, and I think that they look really good together.
04:03It's a super simple mouse, it works really nicely with Windows, obviously.
04:06The buttons have a nice click, can't complain about them.
04:08The scroll wheel is a little stiff, you can't spin it like you would on the MX Master or
04:13something like that, but it's a, I don't know, it's a good scroll wheel.
04:16Supposedly, the battery lasts a really long time.
04:19They say 12 months on the packaging, I'm not sure if it'll actually hit 12 months, but
04:23I'm at, what, two months now, two and a half months, and it's still going strong.
04:27Okay, let's play some Overwatch.
04:29Oh, this is a bad idea, I can already feel like this is not gonna be good.
04:35But I should probably get a mouse pad, right?
04:37Actually, you know what, forget the mouse pad.
04:39This thing is supposed to be usable on any kind of surface, or like the majority of surfaces,
04:44so we'll give that a, we'll give it a real test, right?
04:49I, okay, so I recently got into Masters in Overwatch, which is like, for the people that
04:53are unaware of it, it's like a relatively high ranking, it's not like the highest ranking,
04:57but it's like, I don't know, like a B+.
05:01Let's just do it.
05:02Oh, my teammates are probably not gonna be happy if I'm playing on a crappy keyboard and
05:06a crappy mouse.
05:07Whatever, we're doing this for YouTube, they should understand.
05:17Yeah, the aim is, I'm not gonna be able to aim properly on this.
05:21That's okay.
05:22Whoa, that's a lot of stuff.
05:33I'm gonna drop beat, get to the floor right now.
05:35Dropping beat.
05:41Oh, my God.
05:42Look at that.
05:43Oh, that was brutal.
05:44This mouse is horrible.
05:48Not that it's horrible, it's just horrible for first person shooters.
05:52I don't know if you saw that, I was trying to turn over to that, like, fat pig looking
05:56creature, and I couldn't connect with him.
05:58So, at this point, I would probably switch to a regular mouse, because I feel like I'm
06:05not being fair to my teammates by playing on, like, not ideal hardware, but then I wouldn't
06:12be giving this a proper test, right?
06:21This mouse is awesome.
06:29Defeat.
06:34Let's never mention this again.
06:35Okay, back to the mouse and keyboard.
06:37They're great for work, they're great for video editing, they're not so great for first
06:41person shooters.
