00:00Aujourd'hui, je vais vous partager mes premières pensées sur le nouveau Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

00:15Le Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra a l'air similaire au précieux S22 Ultra,

00:57All right, let's get started with the unboxing here.
00:59Now, the Galaxy S23 Ultra comes in at $1199 or £1249 here in the UK
01:08and now starts at 256 GB, which is double the previous 128 GB.
01:14And then also, if you pre-order the phone like I did, you get a free upgrade to 512 GB,
01:21which I think is a really good reason to actually pre-order this phone.
01:25Now, opening up the box here, the first thing we see is of course the phone itself on the right.
01:29Let's take a look here.
01:31It looks like beneath a piece of paper.
01:33Not sure why they included that, but that goes there.
01:35And here it is.
01:37Look at that beautiful color.
01:39So, as you can see, I decided to go for that new green color.
01:43It also comes in phantom black as well as lavender and cream.
01:46If you're not sure what the phantom black looks like,
01:48here I have a previous S22 in the phantom black, so it's this really nice matte black finish.
01:53But this time, I decided to go for the colored option and wow, I am glad I did.
01:59Let's take a look at this phone.
02:01This looks really, really great.
02:03Nice matte finish on the glass.
02:05And you can see here, as I aim it into the light, the color kind of changes based on the reflection.
02:10So, I'm really, really excited to have a new color on the phone.
02:14I typically go for the standard black or white.
02:16But having this color looks really good.
02:18And actually, lately, I've been really enjoying green.
02:20You can see I even have it on my Apple watch band here.
02:23So, it kind of pairs quite well.
02:25Before we take a closer look at the phone itself, let's see what else we get in the box.
02:29So, of course, we get a very thin box, so we won't get too much included here.
02:33We've got the Samsung logo there.
02:35And then inside, I'll pull that out.
02:38There we go.
02:39So, here we have your SIM removal tool, which is an interesting shape,
02:42but this is sort of what we've come to see with Samsung.
02:44And then we have the paper guides as well, the quick start guide, warranty information,
02:49and then the USB cable, which appears to be a simple USB-C to USB-C cable.
02:55So, in terms of what is new with the S23 Ultra, the biggest upgrades have to do with the cameras.
03:01So, the most notable of which is a new 200-megapixel, yes, 200-megapixel wide-angle lens.
03:08That's the sensor right here.
03:09This will be your main lens.
03:11And this is meant to deliver huge improvements in sharpness, low light, as well as stabilization.
03:16Very keen to test that and compare it to other phones, for example, the iPhone 14 Pro.
03:21Now, we also get a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 10-megapixel 10x telephoto lens,
03:26and finally, a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto lens.
03:30So, you can see here on the back, we have a huge range of camera sensors,
03:33very similar to what the S22 looked like, although the sensors here are slightly bigger.
03:38And then, over on the front, as we flip the phone over and peel off the peel to the display,
03:46there we go.
03:47We get a 12-megapixel selfie camera on the front.
03:50And speaking of the display, this is, of course, a huge 6.8-inch dynamic AMOLED display
03:56that is 120 hertz and goes up to 750 nits of brightness.
04:02And then, the second big upgrade that the Ultra brings is a new processor.
04:06So, for the first time, we actually have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor that is optimized for the Galaxy line.
04:13So, we get that both on the S23 Ultra as well as on the S23, which we'll look at as well.
04:18And this is promising to deliver improved performance, both in CPU as well as GPU performance.
04:23And more importantly than that, it's also meant to give better efficiency, meaning longer battery life.
04:29Now, the S23 already comes equipped with a massive 5,000 mAh battery, which is very big.
04:35But with that, you also have an equally big display, not to mention that 200-megapixel camera.
04:40This phone is gonna require some power.
04:43But on paper, as you can see, the specs are looking very promising.
04:47And I'm very keen to check this phone out.
04:50Now, before we boot up and take a closer look at the S23 Ultra,
04:54it is important to protect this big and expensive phone.
04:58And this is where this excellent line of cases from Spigen comes in.
05:03Each case with its own unique feature.
05:05Starting off, we have the Ultra Hybrid 01.
05:08The 01 features a unique design showing the intricate details of the inside of your S23 Ultra.
05:14And this looks really cool.
05:16All while still providing military-grade drop protection.
05:19What is especially important to me as well is that the elements of clarity are made to resist yellowing over time.
05:26Speaking of drop protection, this is the Tough Armor case,
05:29which uses a four-layer design for even better drop protection.
05:33I especially like the built-in stand, perfect for watching videos on the large display of your S23 Ultra.
05:39You know what's worse than a scratch on your screen?
05:42A scratch on your camera.
05:44And this is where the Optic Armor case comes in,
05:47with a built-in slide cover to protect the S23 Ultra's cameras.
05:51And then finally, there is the Cryo Armor.
05:53And this case is perfect for gamers as it features the Arctic Flow technology,

06:12Alright guys, so I've just put in all my information and set up my new S23 Ultra.
06:17As you can see, I got my fingerprint going here.
06:19Let's go and turn up the brightness of this beautiful big display.
06:23And I gotta say, my first impressions of this phone are really, really great.
06:27Really enjoying it so far.
06:29The build quality is absolutely stellar.
06:32I would say it is easily on par with the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
06:36I think what Samsung have done here is just really incredible.
06:39And to be fair, it should be for the high asking price.
06:43Now compared to the previous S22 Ultra, the S23 has slightly more squared off edges.
06:51So you can see here from the top, it's a little bit more squared off to the edges.
06:54Although it still does have slightly rounded on the very far edges of the display.
06:59Compared to say the iPhone 14 Pro, which you can see if I compare here.
07:03It's definitely still more boxy when compared to the S23.
07:07And I think as a result, the S23 Ultra feels a little bit more comfortable in the hand.
07:11As you don't really get that cutting into your palm as much.
07:15Though at the same time though, the outer corners of the phone are quite sharp.
07:19So when you are holding it in landscape mode, you do feel that in your palm.
07:22But I wouldn't consider either uncomfortable.
07:24I think overall though, especially in portrait mode, the S23 feels a little bit nicer in the hand than the iPhone.
07:31And I think that's a really great touch.
07:33Now you do get a slightly curved display still on the Ultra.
07:37Now this is something that some people like, some people don't like.
07:39I think it does visually look really nice and it's nice to side swipe from.
07:43I think ultimately I do prefer a more flat display.
07:47As it does lead to less image warping as well as sort of strange coloring effects that can happen on the side.
07:54So the S23 Ultra's display is more flat.
07:56You do get still a little bit of curve.
07:58If I bring it up close here, you can see there's a little bit of curve.
08:01Overall it is still relatively flat.
08:03This I think is the way to go.
08:06And then in terms of the waterproof and dustproof, this is rated for IP68.
08:10Meaning it is comfortable out in the rain.
08:12You don't have to worry about using your phone.
08:14I still wouldn't advise going swimming with it or any phone for that matter.
08:17But if it ever does drop in the pool, you should be okay.
08:21Now under the screen we also get the same ultrasonic underscreen fingerprint sensor.
08:25I think Samsung does this better than any other manufacturer.
08:28And I think if you are using a Samsung phone, this is also the overall best way to unlock your phone.
08:33I find it to be more safe, more reliable than the facial recognition.
08:37And generally it just works so incredibly fast.
08:40You really don't have to think about it.
08:42And this is arguably I think even better than Apple's face ID.
08:45Because it's just so natural.
08:47You're just going to rest your finger there anyway.
08:49So you don't even have to look at the phone.
08:51You don't have to hold it up to your face.
08:52Just a simple tap and you're already in.
08:54You don't have to first wake up the phone.
08:56It just brings you right to your home screen.
08:58My first impressions here of the display are also really really great.
09:01You can see we have this very dark wallpaper.
09:04But even with this dark wallpaper and the studio lights here, everything is very clear and easy to see.
09:09Things are sharp.
09:10The 120 Hz refresh rates are also super super smooth.
09:14And I also like that we now also get more years of software support.
09:18So the S23 Ultra comes with Samsung's One UI 5.4.
09:23And this promises to deliver 4 years of software updates.
09:27And this I think is really really great.
09:29And brings them much closer to Apple.
09:31You've seen in some of my iPhone videos.
09:33I really appreciate the longevity that you get with iPhones.
09:36And I think Samsung are really leading the way to catching up with that.
09:39We also see Google improving in this area.
09:41But it's good to see Samsung as well.
09:43Of course they are probably one of if not the biggest player on the Android side.
09:47Now I just want to do a quick little size comparison here.
09:50In the hand side by side compared to the 14 Pro Max here.
09:53Of course a very comparable phone in terms of the price as well as the general size.
09:58You can see that the 14 Pro Max is I would say ever so slightly.
10:02Actually no in terms of width.
10:04I thought it would be a little wider.
10:05But it turns out to be roughly the same.
10:07It's definitely not as tall.
10:08So you can see that side by side the S23 Ultra is a little bit taller.
10:12This is going to of course allow you to see more lines of text on a document if you're scrolling.
10:16At the same time though of course makes the phone a little bit bigger.
10:19But I must say since the width isn't much wider.
10:22It feels comfortable to use in one hand.
10:24You can see I can just about reach the other end of the display here.
10:27Though normally I'd be using two hands to type.
10:29But if say you're walking somewhere.
10:30You need to quickly type something.
10:33Looks like I can reach the other end of the display as well.
10:37One thing I am really looking forward to testing over the next weeks and months even.
10:42Is the performance.
10:43As for the first time the S23 Ultra as mentioned before.
10:46Does have that Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip.
10:48Which is optimized especially for the S23 line.
10:52And this is meant to give performance improvements.
10:54And more importantly efficiency improvements.
10:57So the 5000 mAh battery I think will go a long way on this phone.
11:00But again you do have that really large display.
11:02So you're going to be needing to pack a pretty big battery.
11:05To make this thing last over a day.
11:08Although so far I have heard really great things.
11:11About the battery life on the S23 Ultra.
11:13And I'm curious to see how that compares.
11:15Particularly to the 14 Pro Max.
11:16The phone that I've been using everyday.
11:18And well haven't been able to kill in one day.
11:21Unless I try really really hard.
11:23Now one thing that we haven't looked at yet.
11:25Is the S Pen.
11:26Which I think is one of the coolest features actually of the Ultra.
11:29So let's go ahead and take that out here.
11:30It's right here in the bottom left of the phone.
11:32I'm going to go click it.
11:33And it kind of pops up here.
11:35And with my nails I can just sort of grab it.
11:37And pull it out of the phone.
11:40So here it is.
11:41Okay first impressions.
11:42It is a little bit longer than I would have expected.
11:45But at the same time also a bit thinner.
11:47So you can see it is not a round shape.
11:49It is sort of a.
11:50I guess you can almost call it a rectangular shape.
11:52Where it is a little bit wider than it is tall.
11:54It feels pretty comfortable.
11:56It has sort of a matte.
11:57Almost rubber like texture.
11:59Which should provide a little bit of grip.
12:01We get this little button here on the top.
12:03And then also a.
12:04Yep there it is.
12:05We got a little side button.
12:06Which I'm sure will be for certain shortcuts.
12:08As you can see here.
12:09This then allows me to quickly scribble.
12:11On the screen here.
12:13And you get this little sound effect.
12:15I'm sure I'll be able to turn that off.
12:17But one thing I immediately noticed.
12:18Is we do get this hover feature.
12:19So if I hold it close to the display.
12:21You do get this little dot underneath.
12:23Like I said.
12:24It shows you where exactly you're going to touch.
12:26If you want to make some really precise annotations.
12:28That may be useful.
12:29Of course we have different tools.
12:31There we have your eraser.
12:32I'm sure I can also switch between the tools.
12:35I'm not sure.
12:36This is something that I'm going to have to figure out.
12:38And thoroughly test.
12:39Before I give you my full thoughts in my review.
12:41Again these are just my first impressions.
12:43As a first time Galaxy Ultra user.
12:45Personally I'm not someone to really handwrite much.
12:48A lot of the time I prefer to type.
12:50But I think for annotating.
12:52Notification or screenshots.
12:54This could actually be useful to have.
12:56And I especially like that the stylus.
12:58Just slips away into the phone.
13:00As if it was never there.
13:02So this means you're not going to lose it.
13:04And it's also not intrusive in any way.
13:06As if it were to sort of snap to the side of the phone.
13:08I wouldn't be able to use that for example.
13:10I think on an iPad or something that's different.
13:12But on a phone that's in your pocket every day.
13:14It has to be minimalistic.
13:15And it has to really fade away.
13:17When it is not needed.
13:18And I think that's something.
13:19That the Ultra and the previous Galaxy Note series.
13:21Achieves like no other.
13:23So I can't wait to start using.
13:25And testing the new S23 Ultra.
13:27You can tell I really love this green color.
13:29I think it pairs perfectly with my watch band.
13:32But also it looks really nice.
13:34Kind of a subtle green.
13:35And already you can tell I'm falling in love with this phone.
13:37I'm really keen to test this on its own.
13:39Of course for my individual review.
13:41Testing the performance.
13:42The newer cameras.
13:43As well as seeing how it compares to the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
13:46Of course a phone that is similarly priced.
13:48And it's actually a phone that I've been using as my main phone.
13:51So very curious to see.
13:52How these two high-end flagships compare.
