00:00Even if you have absolutely no intention at all of buying this phone, keep watching this
00:04video because right now this is the most powerful phone you can buy.
00:11This is the new iQoo 11 and it's the first phone to launch, or at least for me to get
00:15my hands on, with the brand spanking new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip.
00:20That's the new flagship processor that Qualcomm showed off just a few weeks ago in Hawaii
00:23at their Snapdragon Summit.
00:27So quicker than you can say Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, iQoo slapped the new chip in this new
00:32flagship phone.
00:33And if you haven't heard of iQoo, which you may not have, they're actually a sub-brand
00:36of Vivo, with a slightly more gaming and performance focus, but also available in different markets.
00:41But hold your horses, before you jump to the next video, the reason I'm telling you about
00:45this is because it is the first phone that I can actually properly test with that new
00:49Gen 2 chip.
00:50So we can basically find out just how fast pretty much all 2023 Android flagship phones
00:55will be with this guy.
00:57Of course there are some variables with materials and cooling and software and RAM, but the
01:01likes of the Galaxy S23, the Oppo X6 Pro, the OnePlus 11, Xiaomi 13, those sort of things,
01:06they're likely to all be powered by the same chip as well.
01:10But first, there is a lot more to this iQoo 11 than just the new chip, because we also
01:15get new and faster LPDDR5X RAM, and also much faster and also more efficient UFS 4 storage.
01:23So new chip, faster RAM, faster storage, and also a brand new screen.
01:27This is actually really interesting.
01:28This is using the Samsung E6 AMOLED, and if you are into your tech specs, then you'll
01:32be familiar with the E5, which was in pretty much all Android phones in 2022, but now we
01:37have the new E6, which actually seems to be quite a big upgrade.
01:40If you take the previous gen, one of these, the iQoo 10, which came out just in July 2022,
01:44so only a few months ago, that was a full HD 120Hz screen.
01:49This is now Quad HD 144Hz, and actually, as far as I know, this is the only phone to
01:54offer Quad HD and 144Hz refresh.
01:57It's also boosted the peak brightness from 15 up to 1800 nits.
02:01The dimming frequency, or PWM, is now 1440Hz, so a little bit less eye strain.
02:05And possibly most exciting of all, it's an LTPO 3.0 display, which is the next gen of
02:10adaptive refresh rate, which can save more power and actually generate new frames, potentially
02:16making everything, including your games, look and feel even smoother.
02:20That's a pretty hefty upgrade, and as I say, what we're seeing here is what we're likely
02:23to see on pretty much all upcoming Android flagships.
02:26Elsewhere, we get a good-sized 5000mAh battery with 120W fast charging, the stereo speakers
02:32sound great, and it supports Snapdragon Sound, which unlocks some tasty lossless and also
02:36low latency audio for gaming.
02:38No headphone jack or microSD card slot, sadly, but it is a very smart, slim, and light design,
02:44and actually has somewhat of a passing resemblance to the Vivo X80.
02:49There's definitely some cross-pollinated DNA going on there.
02:52I mean, it is a sub-brand of Vivo, which itself is actually a sub-brand of BBK Electronics,
02:57which also own Oppo, which also own OnePlus.
03:01Anyway, I'm not complaining, it's still a lovely phone, really slim, with a big 6.78-inch
03:06screen.
03:07However, I'm a bit disappointed, because this black version is a bit dull.
03:11Okay, it's very dull.
03:12But what I would say, if you are thinking about buying this, is definitely get it in
03:15the other colour, the one with the stripe, because it looks way cooler than that.
03:28Round the back, we have this triple camera system, with a 50MP main lens, a 12MP ultrawide,
03:33and a 12MP telephoto, plus a 16MP camera round the front.
03:38And overall, it is a solid setup, but the main GN5 sensor isn't particularly new,
03:43nor are we getting any of that crazy 1-inch sensors that's coming to the new Vivo X90
03:46Pro that's just been announced.
03:48And despite this new chip supporting crazy 4K 120 or 8K 60 video resolutions, this is
03:54still 4K 60 and 8K 30.
03:58This is the new iQoo 11.
04:01What do you think?
04:02It's not even coming to the UK, which is a shame.
04:06It's still a very capable camera, and iQoo have made some nice improvements, particularly
04:09in reducing shutter lag, and so first impressions are pretty good.
04:13And finally, in terms of software, this ship's running Android 13 and iQoo's Funtouch OS
04:18on top, which is nice and fast, although there is a hefty amount of bloatware.
04:22And also, stop this, we only get two years of major Android updates.
04:27The fact that OnePlus has now jumped up to four years, matching Samsung, and Apple's
04:31Also at the top end of that, two years of Android updates is just not good enough anymore
04:36in my opinion.
04:37That's a bit disappointing.
04:38Okay, enough of all that.
04:39Enough waffling.
04:40Let's get to the good bit.
04:41Let's find out just how fast this phone with the new 8th Gen 2 chip really is and if it
04:45makes that much of a difference, if you really should care.
04:48Well, here are my Geekbench 5 and 3DMark Wildlife Extreme stress test results.
04:54And for some context, let's bring in the Galaxy S22 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8th Gen
04:59And then also the Xiaomi 12T Pro with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1.
05:03In single core, we're looking at about a 10% uptick over the 8 Plus Gen 1 and about 20%
05:08over the original 8th Gen 1, although it is more significant in multi-core with a 40%
05:12bump from the original and about a 12% bump from the 8 Plus.
05:16But let's switch over to 3DMark, which tests the graphics with a 34% boost over the 8 Plus
05:21and a 62% boost over the 8, although if we look at the stability, which is quite low
05:26and suggests despite the vapor chamber cooling system that we have in this IQ, there's potential
05:30for much higher frame rates, although not necessarily sustained over longer gaming sessions.
05:35What's really interesting, though, is that in the same test, we only used 9% of the battery
05:39on the Gen 2 versus 12 and 13% respectively on the other chips.
05:43That's kind of what you want, right?
05:44Faster and it saves battery.
05:46Now, I haven't had this long enough to do a full battery test, and I am also really
05:49curious how this will stack up to other Gen 2 powered phones, which we'll be seeing very
05:53soon because, as I say, there is a lot more to performance than just the chip inside.
05:57But I know what you're thinking, you said at the beginning, Tom, that this was the fastest
06:00phone ever.
06:01Well, what about this guy, the iPhone 14 Pro with the A16 chip?
06:07Well, not in Geekbench, so clearly the processor is still significantly faster on the A16,
06:12but in 3DMark, we're looking at a 12% higher score and also if we jump down to FPS, a slightly
06:17more consistent frame rate on the 8 Gen 2.
06:20So that's the data, but what does it all mean?
06:23Well, essentially the 8 Gen 2 chip is very fast and actually a decent upgrade in terms
06:27of graphics performance even over the 8 Plus Gen 1, which itself is still very capable,
06:32but less so in terms of the processor.
06:34Now the issue is diminishing returns, right?
06:37Where are you actually going to see that kind of performance?
06:38Well, it is good to see that we have this new Quad HD 144.
06:42We do have an outlet for this extra performance, higher frame rates at higher resolutions.
06:47Are there any games that support 144?
06:49Barely, a handful, but it is chicken or the egg.
06:52Games won't optimise for better hardware until there is better hardware.
06:56I do think 144 makes a bit of a difference to just how fast the entire UI is, even over
07:00120, obviously some diminishing returns, but I think you can notice it and also combined
07:05with the LTPO3 panel, which adds new frames and can smooth everything out, it's a bit
07:10like an adaptive sync technology.
07:11This is incredibly fast and snappy, but also this is just the start.
07:16We haven't really seen any games taking advantage of hardware ray tracing, which these chips
07:20support.
07:21We do have new RAM and new storage that's going to have to be optimised over time.
07:24I appreciate that iQ have rushed this out and it is one of the first to come with new
07:28chips and combined with the new screen, I think it has had a noticeable impact on performance,
07:33but I am also really excited to see what comes out over the next few months with the new
07:36flagship phones powered by the same chip and with the same display and what they can bring
07:40to the table.
07:42But what about you?
07:43What phone are you using right now?
07:44And also, are you thinking about upgrading to a new phone in the next few months?
07:48And if so, which one?
07:49Let me know in the comments below.
07:50Thank you so much for watching, guys.
