00:00Hello chaps, let me introduce you to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and it is very nice and there are some very welcome upgrades here
00:07But there's also a lot that hasn't changed and Samsung has a pretty big challenge to convince us
00:13Not only to buy a fold
00:14This is the current Fold 5 but also not to buy one of its fantastic rivals from Google and OnePlus and Oppo and Honor and Vivo
00:21Okay, so let's talk about what's new what's changed and the most obvious sort of difference is the design refresh
00:28The Fold 6 is a touch shorter and also a little bit wider
00:31They've squared off the corners giving it a more boxy s24 ultra look and it actually weighs about the same as the ultra as well
00:38Now at 239 grams, that's 14 grams lighter than last year's Fold 5 and 24 grams lighter than the Fold 4
00:45Now my number one issue with the fold since the beginning of time
00:48Well when they first started launching the folds is how narrow this cover screen is
00:53I think we can all agree that it's just too narrow too much like a
00:55Remote control and this has been our feedback for years and years and years
00:59Well, look at this the Fold 6 is cover screen is a whole one millimeter wider side by side
01:05You can just about notice the difference
01:07It's a little bit less of a TV remote and now just about a 21 by 9 aspect ratio
01:12It's a subtle change, but it is certainly welcome. We also have a new and improved hinge
01:16They call it a dual rail hinge
01:18the aluminium frame is now matte rather than glossy and apparently is now 10% more scratch resistant and
01:24Speaking of durability the IPX4 rating that we got on the Fold 5 has been bumped up to IP 48
01:30So much better water resistance and for the first time on a fold from Samsung a bit of dust resistance
01:36So you can finally take your Fold 6 to the beach
01:39They've tweaked the speaker grills the one on the top on the bottom and I'm told they are now louder
01:44Plus we have slightly improved mics still Gorilla Glass Victus 2 front and back and you may notice
01:50Hey, I actually had a little accident with my Fold 5
01:52I've kind of shattered the glass there when I dropped a phone on it
01:56Not the end of the world still works, but that's still glass
02:00Oh, and the UTG or ultra thin glass for the main tablet screen is now FTG or foldable thin glass
02:06Which apparently is tougher and also helps reduce the visibility of the crease
02:11Also, I'm told because I can't say it looks or feels particularly different and given how subtle the crease is on some of his rivals
02:18I'd hoped for a slightly bigger change here
02:20And there's also no sign of the fantastic anti-reflective coating that we get on the s24 ultra
02:25This is like one of those underrated features that I love about this and it would be amazing
02:30Giving the tablet screen and that you know
02:31How this is supposed to be a content creation and consumption device to have all the bells and whistles of the ultra screen
02:38But still it's thinner. It's lighter
02:40We have the wider cover screen slimmed down bezels tougher glass tougher frame and dust resistance
02:45Even if it's not a complete overhaul in design
02:47It does all add up to make the fold 6 look and feel a lot nicer to use
02:51Even more so if you pair it with their new and improved s-pen case, which is significantly less chunky now
02:57And I would definitely recommend getting one of these because it protects the phone it holds the pen and it stops the phone from rocking
03:02About because of the camera lenses when folded on a flat surface
03:05And of course a new phone launch wouldn't be complete without some new colors. We have silver shadow
03:10We have pink and we have navy. These are the three main colors
03:14But there will also be more options on samsung.com which include crafted black and crafted white but out of these three
03:20Which would you go for?
03:22Then we have the display or displays
03:25I should say the trimmed bezels and the extra millimeter in width for the cover screen means it is now a touch bigger
03:31The only other change here is the brightness now bumped up to 2600 nits peak HDR
03:36Using their adaptive vision booster tech that goes for both screens and that's up from 1750 last year and
03:421300 the year before with the fold 4
03:45Otherwise, it's the same lovely 120 Hertz dynamic AMOLED and obviously a big if not the big selling point of the fold is to give
03:52You as much screen and as much viewing flexibility as possible
03:55and as ever the tablet screen while
03:58Terrible for watching TV shows and movies because of the basically square aspect ratio and the massive black bars
04:03It's great for browsing the web looking at your photos and of course
04:07Multitasking with up to three apps side-by-side and a fourth one floating on top
04:11And while the crease is definitely still there and you particularly notice it if you're doodling or drawing with the s-pen going over it
04:17The truth is even if the fold 6 isn't perfect
04:20And of course, it's not for everyone particularly with the price tag
04:22Which we'll talk about in a second
04:23There isn't really a rival out there with the same form factor same screen quality same s-pen support or similar stylus
04:30And also the same software the galaxy software
04:32Which really I think is the best for taking advantage of the tablet screen and the foldable form factor with flex mode
04:38But of course that's also not exactly new
04:41What is new though is the snapdragon 8 gen 3 for galaxy?
04:44Which is the same one you'd get in the s24 ultra and it is quite significant upgrade 41% faster
04:50MPU for all the AI stuff
04:5325% graphics 14% faster processor, although still no Wi-Fi 7 it sticks with 6e
04:58Which is a bit odd for a phone this price since the chip supports it all fold 6 is get 12 gigs of RAM and the
05:04Usual 256 512 and 1 terabyte storage options. No change there
05:09Just scrolling around and using the phone for a couple of hours at my hands-on event with Samsung
05:13It did feel really fast
05:14But I think what I'm more excited about with a new chip is not only the camera processing which I'll talk about a sec
05:19But also it's more efficient because Samsung has stuck with the same size battery as the fold 5 at
05:254400 milliamps would have said no to a slightly bigger battery
05:28But on the other hand it is quite impressive
05:30They have shrunk the form factor of the phone kept the same battery
05:33But actually are promising a slightly longer battery life because of the more efficient chip and some optimizations
05:38For example, they say that video playback has been bumped from 21 to 23 hours
05:43And they've also worked with a bunch of big apps like YouTube and Netflix to make them use less battery
05:48Sadly though absolutely no change to the charging speed still tops out at 25 watts
05:53And don't think for the 1800 pound price tag that you'll get a charger in the box
05:57No, no, that's still an optional extra as is the S Pen in all the cases. It's not the end of the world
06:02You'll still get 50% of your battery after half an hour of charging if you buy their faster 25 watt charger
06:07But given the competition given how expensive this phone is given how on the sixth generation of the fold
06:13Why is this still being forgotten about it's very strange to me still we do get wireless and also reverse wireless charging
06:19Which not all rivals offer but what about the cameras all five of them?
06:23In fact, you've got the cover screen selfie
06:25You've got the tablet screen selfie hidden fairly well under the glass
06:28Which is mainly meant for video calls and then you've got your three main lenses on the back with wide the ultra-wide and the three
06:34Times telephoto and of course being a foldable with flex mode and with the cover screen preview
06:39You've got a lot more flexibility for using these main cameras for more of your shots
06:44The problem is barely anything has changed with the cameras if I bring up the specs from last year's fold 5 and then
06:51Transition to the fold 6 the only hardware change is the ultra-wide camera
06:55Which does have a new sensor and can also now shoot at 60 FPS both at full HD and 4k
07:00Currently if I switch from UHD 30 to UHD 60 4k 60 the 0.6 times lens
07:08Actually disappears so you can now shoot 60 FPS with the fold 6
07:12That is the main camera hardware change
07:14Although, of course, we do have the new snapdragon 8 gen 3 which comes with an improved ISP for the camera
07:20So we are likely to see some better processing faster shutter speeds better noise reduction in low-light
07:24So it may end up being marginally better. I'll test it properly my full review, but that's it
07:30But I must admit I did come away a little bit disappointed by that the fact that there's barely any change to the cameras
07:35And I feel like that was the same last year and also the year before it feels like they're falling further behind
07:39Not only their own flagship phones, but also the competitors out there
07:43For example, I love the one plus opens camera, which is the basically the same phone as the Oppo find n2
07:48I think it is and that's due a refresh and also the pixel fold 2 is around the corner
07:52So the full 6 will ship with Android 14 and it will be running Samsung's latest one UI
07:586.1.1 which of course means we get all their lovely galaxy AI features
08:02Most of which are already available on their recent phones
08:05There are only a handful of new features here and they'll probably trickle down to the other devices in the next few months
08:11Now going through all the galaxy AI features could take an entire video, but let me just give you a quick recap
08:15You've got all the assists note assist lets you transcribe translate and summarize within the notes app
08:21You don't have to use the voice recorder
08:23Browsing assist for translations and summaries of websites and the bigger screen with the original article and the translation side-by-side is really neat
08:30You've got chat assist with a new composer tool which can generate what you want to say for emails messages IG comments
08:37There's live translate where you can make a call speak in your language and the other person hears it translated in their language
08:43Interpreter also makes really good use of flex mode say you're at a restaurant or you're checking into the hotel
08:48And there's a language barrier
08:49you can turn on conversation mode and it will show the translation on the outer screen and give you their response on the inside for
08:55you and
08:56Then there's some fun image generation tools like sketch to image which does what it says on the tin give it your best drawing and
09:02It'll then use gen AI to create a more complete picture
09:05Shall we say very much like Cochria on Windows PCs and what's coming with Apple's intelligence?
09:10You can also draw on top of your photos and gen AI will do its thing and then you have a heart on your t-shirt
09:16Or a very fancy top hat
09:18There's also a new portrait studio mode where you can turn yourself into a comic or a 3d cartoon or watercolor or even a pencil
09:25Sketch, I think that's the best one and you can even turn a photo into a kind of 3d moving photo
09:30I'm not sure if I would ever actually use this
09:33It's kind of like those 3d effects you sometimes see on Facebook
09:36Plus if you tap and hold it goes slow motion
09:38And of course, you've got circle to search and AI generated wallpapers, but nothing really new there
09:43But I do also appreciate they've made it clearer
09:45What exactly the galaxy AI features are having this galaxy AI menu that lists everything is a nice update
09:51So that is the fold 6 well, that's not the fold 6
09:54That's the fold 5 but that's my hands-on with 6 and in terms of the price. It'll cost you
09:591799 pounds here in the UK 1800 quid basically, which is 50 more than the fold 5 last year
10:05So prices are going up and that comes with the same pretty paltry 256 gigs of storage. No charger. No s-pen
10:11I was thinking about this last night. How is it still so expensive six generations in in fact is getting more expensive
10:18I mean, I you know cars don't necessarily get cheaper each one that comes out
10:22But you think the processes for the screens and the hardware would become more affordable as they sell more
10:27I don't know. Anyway, very expensive foldable phone
10:30I don't think it's gonna convince anyone who's not already convinced by this form factor to jump ship
10:35But to be fair I have also been telling you what's new versus the fold 5 if you have a fold 3 or fold 4
10:41Then it could be worth the upgrade. It is a very nice phone
10:44It's just a bit frustrating that there's no change to charging speed
10:46The cameras are barely improved and while the design is certainly nicer and a refinement
10:51Nothing about it is really a game-changer
10:54But what do you think has Samsung done enough? Would you consider buying one?
10:57And if not, what's the deal-breaker other than you know the price so full review coming very soon
11:03Make sure you hit that like and subscribe button down below and also check out my flip 6 hands-on video
11:07Thank you so much for watching guys. I'll see you next time right here on the tech chat
