00:00What's up guys, so today I've got a pretty good video today, so we got the iPhone XS, the iPhone 11, the iPhone 12.
00:08We're going to be comparing these older flagships and I know a lot of you guys are looking to upgrade iPhones,
00:15especially my people who had an iPhone X and an iPhone 8 Plus.
00:20Since Apple did cut support for those phones, they're not getting iOS 17.
00:24So the oldest iPhone to get iOS 17 is actually the XS I believe.
00:29Also, you can throw the iPhone SE in there. The only thing about the SE is that I think most people would prefer to pick from these three.
00:37I think if you really want a physical button and touch ID, you just get the iPhone SE.
00:43Otherwise, I wouldn't pick that phone over these three.
00:46So yeah, let's go ahead and dive in. Let's talk about the price, display, specs, all that good stuff.
00:51And yeah, so we can sort of narrow the decision down here.
00:55All right, so let's talk about the price. The cheapest phone, of course, is going to be the iPhone XS here, coming in at $236.
01:04And you can find this probably cheaper on eBay, so around $200.
01:08The iPhone 11 is slowly coming down in price as well too.
01:13It was around like $300 beginning of the year. Now you can see $267 for very good condition.
01:20All these phones actually got used refurbished, guys, so most of my phones I buy are used refurbished.
01:25And then the iPhone 12 is going to be the more expensive model.
01:28I typically see these trending for around $350 to like $380.
01:33Yeah, so that's typically what you would find this phone at.
01:36All right, let's go ahead and talk about the displays here.
01:39So you do have on the XS, it is a 5.8-inch OLED display.
01:45The iPhone 11 has a 6.1-inch LCD display.
01:48And then the iPhone 12 also has an OLED display at 6.1 inches.
01:53And basically, the display difference.
01:56So the XS, I noticed, especially people, anyone with smaller hands, this phone is much easier to hold.
02:03And like I said, the display is smaller, so it's easier to one hand.
02:06That's one thing that I noticed.
02:08Now, these phones obviously aren't big. I just wanted to point that out.
02:12Yeah, so it is a little bit more comfortable to hold for sure.
02:15But the best display here is, of course, going to be the iPhone 12 display.
02:20Not only because it has the OLED, it's 1080p, but it gets very bright outdoors.
02:26It's much brighter than the 11 and the XS.
02:30It gets up to 1200 nits peak brightness.
02:32So that's something that I really like.
02:34So in direct sunlight, you can see it way easier than you can the 11 or the XS.
02:40The second best display, I would probably say, is the XS.
02:43Because I think most people prefer the OLED displays.
02:46You get deeper blacks.
02:48And overall, it's just, you know, Apple has never went back to LCD displays.
02:51So that's what the industry pretty much prefers.
02:54And yeah, so the LCD display is not bad on the iPhone 11.
02:58The only thing about the iPhone 11's display is that it's actually a 720p plus display.
03:04So yeah, so these two are 1080p, but this one is 720p plus.
03:08And you can definitely tell the difference when watching content in 1080p for sure.
03:13So you can tell this is 720p for sure.
03:16But the iPhone 11's display is still sharp.
03:19So it still has a pretty high PPI.
03:21So when you look at it, icons and everything, text, it does look still pretty good.
03:25So I don't think the average person would really notice.
03:28If I just gave, you know, two people the 11 and the XS or the 12,
03:35they probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
03:37But very, very good displays.
03:39You have them notched on all of these phones here.
03:42But I would say if you're really into displays,
03:44I would say you could spend the extra money and, you know, buy the iPhone 12 for sure
03:50since it does a much better job in direct brightness.
03:53But I think for the average person, it's really not that big of a difference.
03:57Like I said, if you don't find yourself, like, really watching a lot of movies and stuff
04:01and YouTube videos and high res, you will be fine with the iPhone 11's display.
04:06It's really not that bad, especially in person.
04:08Just look at them side by side.
04:10Like, yeah, you can tell the difference in resolution,
04:12but I don't think for the average person it's going to be a big deal.
04:15But definitely the best display, if you want the best display experience,
04:19you would go with the iPhone 12 for sure.
04:21All right, so next let's talk about the specification a little bit more
04:24and gaming performance because I know this is a pretty big thing for a lot of people
04:28who are trying to game on a budget or if you're just a casual gamer,
04:32then this will be useful.
04:34So all of these phones are actually capable of running PUBG at HDR Extreme.
04:38That is the setting it's on right now.
04:40And the spec-wise, the iPhone XS is running the Apple A12 chip and that has 4 gigs of RAM.
04:46The iPhone 11 is running the Apple A13 chip and that also has 4 gigs of RAM.
04:51And the iPhone 12 is running the Apple A14 chip with 4 gigs of RAM.
04:56So they all play PUBG really well.
04:58The gaming experience on these phones, like I said, is really good.
05:02So I think the sweet spot, if you just wanted to save money, would be the iPhone 11
05:07because there's no real big difference from the performance on the 11 versus the 12 in my opinion.
05:15Sometimes the XS can get heated up a little bit,
05:19but even the XS, you don't really get that many frame drops and stuff like that.
05:23It's still a very smooth phone.
05:25But I like the iPhone 11 for anybody who's trying to game on a budget.
05:29You don't have to spend almost $400 to get the 12.
05:33But again, if you're really into games and of course you want to spend the money for a little bit extra power, yes.
05:41And then also, you know you're good a few years down the line as well too with gaming performance.
05:48But gaming performance is surprisingly good.
05:50So even if you wanted to just spend the $200, the XS, like I said, does a really good job with gaming performance here.
05:58So yeah, so I think that these devices do a pretty good job as you guys can see.
06:03My only thing with the XS is I notice it does heat up way more than the 11 and the 12 for sure.
06:09But absolutely, these phones do an absolutely great job at performance still.
06:14Now, another question is, well, how do these phones perform just casual use?
06:19Are they laggy?
06:20And I've had a pretty good experience with all these phones as far as opening up applications and stuff like that,
06:27the animations, everything feels pretty smooth here on iOS 16.
06:32So I don't have any issues with performance.
06:34So like I said, I think you guys will be perfectly fine even if you got the iPhone XS.
06:39Obviously, the iPhone 12, I did a little speed test with the 14 Pro Max and it opens applications just as fast as the 14 Pro Max.
06:47So it feels really, really fast and really instant and so does the iPhone 11 surprisingly.
06:52As far as performance-wise, these phones are still very fast, still very smooth when it comes to opening applications and bouncing in and out.
07:01It does a really good job with RAM management as well too.
07:04So as far as just bouncing in and out, even if you just want to use these phones, regular phones, social media, no gaming, stuff like that, they're all very smooth.
07:13And honestly, I would prefer to get an older iPhone, older iPhone flagship or older Android flagship over these mid-range and budget phones for sure.
07:21I think you'll actually be happier.
07:23So here's something very important here.
07:25So a phone like the iPhone XS, the thing about the software, and let me get a wipe down,
07:31the thing about the software on this phone is that it could possibly be the last major OS update for this phone, right?
07:39Because I could see it getting iOS 18, we know it's getting iOS 17, but that's also something you need to know.
07:47Apple typically has 5 to 6 years for their phones as far as software support.
07:52So we know the iPhone 11 is going to be still supported as well for a good amount of time, and of course the iPhone 12.
08:00Now, if you're really concerned with software support, then of course you're going to get the iPhone 12 since it's the newest phone here.
08:06So the iPhone 12, I'll give you guys an example, the 12 launched with iOS 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19.
08:15So Apple typically, they cut phones around 5 to 6 years.
08:19So again, you'll get iOS 18 and 19 on the iPhone 12, and then you just do the same thing for the X, XS, and the 11.
08:30So also that is something that you need to think about as well too.
08:34And also as far as FaceTime, iMessage, all of that still works the same.
08:40FaceID works the same on all of these phones, so no major difference there as well too.
08:46Nothing is better on each of these phones.
08:49All of these phones have stereo speakers, so we got it at max volume.
08:54Let's go ahead and compare them.
09:11So definitely a little bit more bass on the iPhone 11 compared to the XS.
09:15The XS has a little bit more bass.
09:17The iPhone 11 has a little bit more bass.
09:19The XS has a little bit more bass.
09:21The iPhone 11 has a little bit more bass.
09:23The XS has a little bit more bass.
09:25The iPhone 11 has a little bit more bass.
09:27The XS has a little bit more bass.
09:29The iPhone 11 has a little bit more bass.
09:31The XS has a little bit more bass.
09:33The iPhone 11 has a little bit more bass.
09:35The XS has a little bit more bass.
09:37Definitely a little bit more bass on the iPhone 11 compared to the XS,
09:40but they're both about the same in terms of loudness.
09:59Yeah, so not a big difference with these speakers.
10:02You do get better bass on the 11 and 12,
10:05but as far as the quality,
10:07you're still getting really good quality on all of these guys,
10:09just a little bit more bass on these two.
10:11All right, so let's talk about the camera situation here.
10:14So very similar camera setups,
10:17but there are some slight differences.
10:19So the iPhone XS here,
10:21it does have a 2X telephoto camera
10:25and the 12 and the 11 does not.
10:30So that's one thing that you notice.
10:32So there's no ultra-wide.
10:33As you can see, Apple, I guess,
10:35people pretty much prefer the ultra-wide shot over the telephoto,
10:39so I guess that's why Apple got rid of it.
10:41But yeah, so you do have that on here.
10:44If you were to ask me which one takes the best pictures,
10:46of course, it's going to be the iPhone 12.
10:48If you take a lot of pictures and stuff like that,
10:52all of these phones do a really good job outdoors,
10:55but the 11 and 12,
10:57they're kind of neck and neck in terms of quality.
11:00It's very hard to tell the difference.
11:02But I would say you can get the iPhone 11 or 12
11:06if you take a lot of pictures,
11:07and I would say if you take a lot of pictures,
11:09I would kind of avoid the XS.
11:11Not that it takes bad photos,
11:13I just think the photos look just a little bit better,
11:16especially if you're going to keep the phone for long term.
11:19But yeah, so the 11 and 12,
11:22they do have the ultra-wide cameras on them,
11:26so you're able to get that wider shot.
11:31So yeah, so definitely take that into consideration.
11:34If you take a lot of photos, definitely go with the 11 or 12.
11:37Video quality is still pretty good on these phones as well too.
11:44I'll show you guys a shot that I took.
11:47So you guys can see the cameras are actually,
11:49like I said, in good lighting, very similar.
11:51But you will notice the shots look a little bit better on the 12.
11:57But like I said, it's very slight.
12:00And just from testing these cameras,
12:01like I said, it's very, very slight.
12:04But definitely the 12 does a way better job in low light as well too.
12:08So that's something that you guys should know
12:10if you take a lot of nighttime photography.
12:13You'll like the 12.
12:15But I'm telling you guys,
12:16in daytime, there's not a massive, massive difference.
12:20I think the XS, the color is off on the XS sometimes.
12:24But other than that, guys,
12:26these phones all still take some pretty good shots.
12:29But definitely, if you take a lot of photos and stuff like that,
12:32you're definitely going to want the best camera,
12:34and I would go with the iPhone 12.
12:36And for all my video people,
12:38they all have the same video settings as well too.
12:41They're all capable of shooting 4K60 and 4K24 as well too.
12:46So all these phones do a really good job at taking video.
12:49I think True Tone is on here.
12:51Yeah, it is.
12:52Yeah, but the video quality is going to be really good.
12:55I personally really like iPhone video as well too.
12:58But as you can see here,
13:00you do have HDR video on the iPhone 12,
13:03and you don't have that setting on the 11 and XS as well too.
13:08So you do have that high dynamic range video.
13:11So video, like I said,
13:12everything is going to be just a little bit better.
13:14But like I said, for the average person,
13:16you're really, really not going to notice
13:18too much of a difference from the 11 and 12.
13:21Like I said, from the XS,
13:22you will notice a difference for sure.
13:24All of these phones are glass and metal phones,
13:27and they're all IP68 dust and water resistant as well.
13:30The XS and the iPhone 11 are extremely comfortable to hold.
13:34And like I said,
13:35I would say the XS is more comfortable to hold
13:37since it's a smaller device, as you can see.
13:40But I absolutely love holding these phones.
13:43They feel really good in the hand,
13:45and they have the curved edges,
13:47so they don't really cut into the hand.
13:49Now, Apple moved away from that,
13:51and with the iPhone 12,
13:53it has the more boxy shape that we see in the new iPhones.
13:57And it does kind of cut into the hand.
13:59It's not as comfortable to hold.
14:01Most people are going to put a case on it,
14:03which will eliminate that boxiness.
14:06But yeah, I just wanted to let you guys know
14:08that that is something that I noticed.
14:12Also, what's pretty cool,
14:13all these phones have wireless charging,
14:15but you do have the MagSafe charging on the iPhone 12,
14:21and you can take advantage of the MagSafe accessories as well, too.
14:24You can put the wallet on the back of here,
14:26or you can just charge it with MagSafe as well, too.
14:28So that's something that you might be interested in as well.
14:32Now, for the battery situation,
14:33you're definitely going to get the best battery life on the iPhone 12,
14:37and then it would be the 11,
14:38and then the XS in my experience.
14:40Now, again, battery life,
14:42especially if you're going to buy from a seller on eBay,
14:45always ask for the battery health.
14:47And when you do get your phone,
14:48go into the battery, battery health,
14:55and you can see this phone is at 88% battery health,
14:58and this lasts me all day easily.
15:00If you're not gaming on this phone,
15:02the iPhone 11 and 12,
15:05they do a really good job at lasting all day.
15:08The XS, I noticed, definitely have to charge the XS,
15:12so it feels like I'm getting four to five hours of screen-on time
15:15with the XS for sure.
15:16And this one is at,
15:18I don't think the battery health is bad on this one,
15:22but definitely not getting that good of a battery life.
15:27It's okay.
15:29Yeah, 85%, which is not bad at all.
15:32But yeah, you definitely have to charge the XS.
15:35So that's pretty much it, guys.
15:38I think the iPhone 11 is actually the sweet spot still.
15:41It still feels very modern,
15:44and like I said, it's coming down in price.
15:46So you can get it for close to,
15:49I'm seeing it for $250, like I said.
15:52I think the cheapest I saw it for a really good condition is $266.
15:57So it's coming down in price.
15:58So I would definitely consider the iPhone 11.
16:02If you want to spend that extra money on the better display,
16:06also the slightly better cameras on the iPhone 12,
16:10MagSafe charging, stuff like that,
16:12you want those little extra features, definitely the iPhone 12.
16:15And also, it's going to have the longest lifespan,
16:17so you won't have to upgrade for a long time.
16:19And the iPhone XS is kind of a toss-up with the XS, right?
16:22Because we don't know if it's going to get iOS 18.
16:25Also, the iPhone 11 is so cheap
16:28that I would just save up the money and get an iPhone 11.
16:32If you really are deciding between the XS and 11,
16:35just save up the little extra money and get the iPhone 11, for sure.
16:40Just because it's going to have a longer software lifespan,
16:43and I think it's in a really good spot as far as the design,
16:48the specs, and all that good stuff.
16:50So be sure to let me know what you guys think,
16:52and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
