00:00Hello there welcome to Brands Hatch for highlights of the final round of the
00:042024 Bennett's British Superbike Championship and a title decider after
00:0829 races from Navara to Knockhill and back here to Brands it all came down
00:14once again to this four points between Kyle Ride and Tommy Bridewell and Glenn
00:18Irwin still in with a shout as well going into race one but there were
00:22problems for Glenn in qualifying a mechanical problem and then a huge crash
00:27as well thankfully he escaped unhurt he was able to take part in race one but he
00:31would start from 15th on the grid the only consolation was that both Kyle and
00:36Tommy were unable to get on the front row of a grid that was headed up by
00:40Ryan Vickers here's what happened in race one with Steve Day
00:46three races remain in 2024 and we're at Brands Hatch as so often it's set the
00:54scene for an epic showdown and his eyes on the lights and away we go good start
01:01from it all on the front row
01:05oh we got a water in the background Rory Skinner's been caught up in something and
01:08that is also Billy McConnell because it is the lead there's a move from Max Cook
01:14he moves up the inside of Kyle Ride
01:18Bridewell is through yeah just got through and then Kyle's got to get a
01:22grip of this now here comes Tommy Bridewell he loves that
01:26move he doesn't even saw that in the summer
01:31Danny Kemp's been quicker than Lewis Roloff the last couple of laps and there he is through
01:36the Hager TBM the catalyzer and he's gone through on Kyle Ride yeah in the
01:41background as well he's through on Kyle now what can Glenn Irwin do
01:48Danny Kemp has taken the lead he's been fast for the last few laps he's the only
01:52rider in the 136's and the McCann's Yamaha team have been waiting for a BSB
01:57win and Danny Kemp as well
02:00that's Charlie Nesbitt and that's right in the middle of the circuit
02:05meanwhile look at Glenn Irwin he's through on Max Cook he's through on Lewis
02:10Roloff what a great ride this is
02:14Oh big moment for Peter Hickman he gets it lit up there
02:18to the thumbs up from Glenn Irwin
02:22Oh he's done! Irwin's championship is done!
02:25he'd done so well up to that point but unfortunately he's asked too much
02:33Kyle Ride cannot afford to take any risks
02:36looks like he's through anyway
02:38that was easy pickings
02:41Danny for 30's he's having a look the door is open
02:45Kyle Ride is up into fourth
02:47this could be the most important few points that Kyle Ride has ever won
02:52Danny Kemp is a Venice BSB race winner a long last
02:58Ridewell is third and this was a salvage job from Kyle Ride
03:04there's nothing in it between Kyle and Tommy going into the final day
03:11so our first win for Danny Kemp at the hundredth time of asking
03:15but that third place for Tommy Ridewell meant that there was now just one point
03:19between him and Kyle Ride at the top of the championship
03:22it was tense on the grid for race one
03:25here's what happened in the company of James Whittam and Steve Day
03:28this is a 12 lap sprint Glenn Irwin would dearly love to climb back up onto the top step
03:34remember the last time we were here in the dry Ryan Vickers was unstoppable
03:38perhaps he starts the race as a potential favorite as well
03:42yeah I think the plan would be that Ryan goes off at the front
03:46Kyle's after him here we go
03:48here we go eyes on the lights for a 12 lap sprint at Brands
03:52and away we go not a good start all there
03:54from Glenn Irwin third on the grid
03:56he really didn't get off the line well at all
03:58Vickers will get the whole shot down into turn one
04:01ahead there of Danny Kemp
04:03and that looks like Tommy Ridewell's got off to a decent start as well
04:07on the approach to Druid he's got the inside line as Bridewell
04:09he's up to second immediately
04:11Kyle Ride trying to get alongside Danny Kemp as well
04:13number 77 but he's got the outside line then for Graham Hill Bend
04:16good start from Tommy
04:18absolutely yeah good launch
04:20actually good start from the third row from Kyle as well
04:23you couldn't have wanted a lot more
04:25oh we've got a fall further back that's Connor Thompson
04:27who's come off and that'll be on the exit of Graham Hill Bend
04:29that'll likely be a high side
04:31old left hand side of the tyre
04:33absolutely I would agree with you
04:35now the marshals and race control have got
04:37what about a minute to come up with a decision on that
04:40it looked like it was moving
04:42oh what a move from Kyle Ride
04:44and he has to do it and he knows he's got to do it Steve
04:46it's so quick over at Hawthorne's
04:48Tommy thinking about a move on Ryan Vickers
04:50the two men fighting for the championship
04:52are going to put everything on the line here today
04:54yeah no doubt two men in the championship
04:56second and third but actually a man leading
04:58is the biggest spoiler potentially
05:00or helper
05:02yeah you never know we'll find out shortly
05:04bit of a moment there just on the approach
05:06Stirling's from Ryan Vickers your race leader
05:08Tommy Bridewell though looking to pull out on the inside line
05:10on the approach to Clearway
05:12Kyle Ride is looking racy there
05:14in third as well
05:16yeah and if you're Danny Kent at this point
05:18probably got the pace to go with him
05:20you must be thinking about the championship
05:22that's playing out in front of your eyes
05:24well here we go then down the hill into Paddock Hill Bend
05:26Tommy Bridewell thought about the move up the inside of Vickers
05:28but they all stay in line for now
05:30it's Vickers that leads
05:32here comes Bridewell up the inside of Vickers
05:34into Druids that was lovely
05:36he nudges him slightly as well
05:38that allows Kyle Ride to reach a second
05:40yeah you couldn't write this
05:42so it's Tommy
05:44versus Kyle and they're one and two
05:46in this sprint race
05:48Kyle Ride looks
05:50keen to get through
05:52yeah and if you look the Yamaha has a really really good
05:54mid-corner that generally is able to
05:56carry a little bit mid-corner speed
05:58the Honda probably has a little bit more
06:00top end speed but yeah there's not a lot
06:02oh Kyle's going to have a look into Hobhorns
06:04it's so fast here this right-hander
06:06what a lovely move from Ride
06:08can he hold the line though? Tommy on the comeback
06:10gets back through
06:12they said they'd get their gloves off and fight
06:14and that's exactly what they're doing and this is inviting
06:16Vickers back into the picture
06:18yeah absolutely I think
06:20Kyle Ride thinks he's got a lot of pace here
06:22because he wouldn't have tried that as early with his
06:24teammate behind him covering him
06:26unless he thought he could put a bit of time
06:28into Tommy
06:32oh there's five to split
06:34first and second
06:3635 points for the winner
06:38it really will be all on
06:40and Kyle is pushing on in second
06:42yeah and so
06:44in his position what I would be doing
06:46and this is difficult to see if you're not
06:48sat on the backseat
06:50like with the boys it would be
06:52it's almost impossible to understand but
06:54if you're Kyle now you think right
06:56ooh this is
06:58I just wonder looking at that whether Kyle's pushing on here
07:00these are the moments that Kyle
07:02is having and he's having more than a few
07:04yeah he's controlling
07:06them pretty well though but it's an IndyCar
07:08it's another one coming out of Druids we saw
07:10that
07:12into 30s
07:14you know when somebody's sat behind somebody else and you think
07:16that's easy for them they're just sat there waiting
07:18for the chance I don't think this is the case
07:20for Kyle now
07:22if Kyle could go through he would and he's lining up another move
07:24here potentially into Hawthorn
07:26he lets up the brakes it's fast again
07:28can he hold his line this time
07:30trying to go through they are side by side
07:32on the cutback now Tommy's got the inside line
07:34he's pushing the front though
07:36is he now going to run wide he does
07:38Kyle then has that inside line
07:40they're side by side the two fighting for the championship
07:42right leads
07:44how good's this
07:46they are right on the limit as well
07:48here comes Tommy into Stirlings
07:50and says have that Kyle this is a proper ding dong
07:52this is exactly what we wanted
07:54between the two men fighting for the championship
07:56Kyle
07:58off the inside into Clearways
08:00with not that's a bold bold move there
08:02from Kyle Wright but he runs it wide
08:04and look at the tyres screaming
08:06that's five changes of lead in a lap
08:08this is amazing
08:10Tommy versus Kyle
08:12Danny
08:14Kent's
08:16he's lost a place so he's down
08:18one spot Max Cook's gone through
08:20another move into Clearways from Kyle Wright
08:22and again Tommy's going to come through
08:24on the cutback they're both
08:26leaving rubber down at Clearways
08:28yeah and that might be
08:30might come into play at the end
08:32you don't want to be using too much tyre even though
08:34it is only a 12 lap race
08:36every question
08:38that Kyle has asked of Tommy so far
08:40has been answered
08:42yeah no uncertain terms as well
08:44can he get close enough this time for another look
08:46into Hawthorne that would be the third time
08:48he's pulling out, he's got the slipstream
08:50he's got that inside line, he goes through
08:52he's a bit deep in there
08:54but he's held his line but back
08:56comes Tommy, Tommy's got the inside
08:58line once more but closing the door
09:00on the Gorilla OG Yamaha
09:02now he's gone wide, is Tommy going to have another look at the inside
09:04no, no room, Tommy loves
09:06the move into the left-hander at Stirlings
09:08he'll now try and line that one up
09:10here he goes, here it comes, look out
09:12he's lining it all up and
09:14just as he always does he goes through
09:16he's gone wide on exit, a little
09:18but still quick enough
09:20now Kyle, will he now try
09:22and go back through into clearways, no
09:24bit of a defensive approach
09:26a little bit defensive from Tommy there
09:28is that an indication of
09:30you can't call this one
09:32what a race this is between the two
09:34guys fighting, this is exactly what you wanted
09:36if you could have painted the picture
09:38at the start of the year, this is what we wanted
09:40two guys fighting it out, they must have
09:42changed position a dozen times
09:46one lap to go in the first
09:48race of the day, there was a point in it at the start
09:50of it, this has been a brilliant couple of laps
09:52from the reigning champion, Tommy Bridewell
09:54over the line at 24.9
09:56from Bridewell, yep the fastest lap of the race
09:58Kyle's gone with him to some extent
10:00only a tenth of a second slower but he's
10:02pushing him, look at the speed Tommy's got down
10:04through Patakil bends
10:06Kyle not close enough
10:08at the moment, and not only that he's running
10:10a little bit wider just to stay where he is
10:12I think, he's stretching
10:14Kyle Ride, who was the championship
10:16leader, he's going to take his lead
10:18back it looks like here, I think so
10:20Kyle here is really
10:22pushing, just to try and gain a tenth
10:24here and a tenth there, but he's not
10:26going to be close enough, he's not, and I think
10:28Kyle needs to finish as well
10:30otherwise his championship is over
10:32onto the back straight, what a couple
10:34of laps this has been, Tommy Bridewell's just put in
10:36the fastest first sector of anyone
10:38and what a time to do it as well
10:41So then, we're about
10:43to tip it right now
10:45Tommy Bridewell, what a performance
10:47this is, we're only a tenth outside
10:49the lap record, and the champion
10:51delivering when it really matters
10:53this is going to be a huge blow, is he
10:55slightly wide there? No, Kyle can't
10:57get close enough
10:59there's too many bike lengths in between them
11:01unless Tommy makes a mistake here
11:03it should be his on the Honda
11:05we're about to head into clearways
11:07for the final time in this sprint race
11:09it's a run to the line, and barring any
11:11errors here, he has got a bit closer
11:13Kyle, but not close enough
11:15Tommy wrestles back the championship
11:17lead, what a win from the reigning
11:19champion, ahead of Kyle Rye
11:21and what a race James
11:23Absolutely brilliant race
11:25and four seconds in front of your next
11:27man and more, and that's just what
11:29you want, the two people battling for the
11:31championship right at the front of the race, wheel to
11:33wheel, and if they're doing it again later
11:35it will be whoever crosses the line first
11:37wins the championship
11:39four minutes now in favour of
11:41Tommy Bridewell, and he's got
11:43that Tommy Hill, John Hopkins
11:45feel about it hasn't he? Absolutely, we couldn't
11:47have wanted any more, and neither of them could have done
11:49any better than that
11:51What an epic encounter
11:53over 12 laps, and Tommy wins it from Kyle Rye
11:55Ryan Vickers was third
11:57he had the popcorn, Danny Koepp was fourth
11:59ahead of Brooks, Andy Irwin sixth, and Max
12:01Cook seventh, then it was Hickman, Nesbitt
12:03Glenn Irwin, Leon Haslam from
12:0520th on the grid, finished 11th ahead of Lee Jackson
12:09The final points went to Storm Stacey, Billy McConnell
12:11and Danny Buchan
12:13leading Pathway Rider there, Lewis Schrollow
12:15in 16th
12:17So as we go to the final
12:19race of the season this afternoon
12:21after 31 races, four
12:23separate Tommy and Kyle in
12:25favour of the reigning champion
12:27it's all on the line there, the battle for third
12:29will conclude later, Glenn Irwin
12:31at the moment just got it over Danny
12:33Kent, with Vickers there in fifth, id in
12:35sixth still, despite not racing this weekend
12:37and Josh Brooks has moved up ahead of Leon
12:39Haslam in the best of the BMW
12:41battle in eighth and ninth
12:43No
12:45Jason Halloran we know, but Max Cook's had another
12:47solid weekend so far, he's 13th
12:49ahead of Storm Stacey and Peter Hickman
12:51Race winner
12:53Tommy Ryewell, oh gosh
12:55if there ever was a time to win a race
12:57that one would be it, that was
12:59so, so entertaining
13:01I hope a preview of
13:03what more is to come in race three
13:05but it looks as though you just
13:07found that little bit extra for those last two laps
13:09where did that come from?
13:11Bike was working well
13:13where we're
13:15struggling is down the straight
13:17in truth, the Yamaha is a
13:19bit stronger than us, everywhere
13:21else I feel pretty strong
13:23but I know what to do, I know
13:25how to approach these
13:27situations
13:29I'm a fair few
13:31years older than Kyle, he's got plenty of years
13:33to hone his craft
13:35and he's doing a phenomenal job, honestly
13:37he's riding so good, so
13:39mature, but I
13:41knew what I needed to do and credit
13:43to the Honda team
13:45bike was great, I felt like I was
13:47riding great, honestly I saw a 24.9
13:49on my lap time
13:51and I thought, bloody hell, that's not
13:53a bad race lap time that
13:55He might be 36
13:57but he's in the peak of his powers
13:59like a fine wine, Bridewell wins
14:01and takes a four point lead into the last
14:03race of the season
14:05Just his third win of the season but what
14:07a time to do it, Tommy Bridewell
14:09producing arguably the performance of his
14:11career to take the championship lead
14:13into the final race, it's coming up after
14:15the break. Welcome back to Brands
14:17Hatch, so the scene was set for the
14:19British Superbike Championship finale
14:21one race remaining and the
14:23two contenders in the front two
14:25positions on the grid, four points
14:27between Tommy Bridewell and Carl Ride
14:29in the championship, four meters between
14:31them on that front row
14:33and it was all to play for, let's find out
14:35what happened in the company of James Whittam
14:37and Steve Day
14:39There is the reigning champion
14:41number one, can he retain
14:43his title and become the first rider
14:45to win on different bikes
14:47and manufacturers ever
14:49Eyes on the lights
14:51and away we go, everyone
14:53Luckily on that front row, got away quite well
14:55Ryan Vickers also, good launch from row two
14:57but it will be Bridewell it seems, maybe with a
14:59hole shot, although Carl Ride immediately aggressive
15:01he's got that outside line, Bridewell will hold
15:03it though, through Paddock Hill Bend, on the
15:05climb up into the hill, look at Andy Irwin
15:07doing his teammate a favour, he
15:09goes up into second place, it's a Honda 1-2
15:11Yeah, Carl Ride stuck it out
15:13on the outside of Paddock Hill, that didn't quite
15:15work for him, gotta be careful early on as well
15:17big lean angles out wide and
15:19the track's really cold, luckily
15:21everyone safely through Graham Hill Bend, a bit of a moment there
15:23and a twitch from Tommy Bridewell, he's pushing
15:25hard already on this opening lap
15:27Yeah, really pleased for Andy there
15:29that's Tommy's wingman right
15:31where he needs to be, yeah, can
15:33Kyle's wingman Ryan Vickers have a
15:35say in this as well, Tommy leads then
15:37through to Hawthorns, look at Glenn Irwin in fourth
15:39on the Ducati, thought about a move up the inside
15:41of Carl Ride, we know he's got speed
15:43in these conditions, hence why he's third on the grid
15:45Yeah, he's got speed in these conditions
15:47speed in any conditions, especially when his back's
15:49against a wall, no championship
15:51kind of, well he's defending third in the championship
15:53is Glenn, but the bike's quick
15:55as well, remember that's still gonna be
15:57a quick Ducati then they say
15:59Kyle Ride in third would be very keen to get through
16:01on number 18 Andy Irwin there in second place
16:03he does not want to let Tommy to get into his
16:05groove, no he doesn't, not an easy job for
16:07Kyle though
16:09So out of Stirlings and on the approach now to
16:11Clearways for the first time here at Achille Brantart
16:13Kyle Ride will now try
16:15and get that launch onto the start finish straight, he's not
16:17close enough, he's not close enough, that was a brilliant
16:19run out of Clearways for Andy Irwin
16:21really was, fantastic, surely he won't challenge
16:23his team mate Tommy Bridewell, wouldn't think so would you
16:25you just, that can't be
16:27possible, does he want a job
16:29Glenn Irwin, wrestling
16:31the Ducati and looking at the inside line
16:33there on Kyle, but he can't quite go through
16:35nope, Kyle needs to be careful
16:37here, if you're not going forward
16:39you're kind of going backwards in this
16:41in this pack, yeah and there's a few
16:43that are hot to handle just behind him
16:45well you could easily get beaten up on these opening
16:47laps, and here comes Glenn Irwin
16:49every opportunity Glenn keeps on
16:51fainting to the inside, yeah that Ducati is
16:53sharp you know, so if he gets a good
16:55run out of here then
16:57it is going to put him in a position to pass on the brakes
16:59but he's going on the outside now
17:01he's got the outside line but he's got the speed and he goes
17:03up into third place and nudges
17:05Kyle Ride back into fourth
17:09here it is, Glenn Irwin this time he will
17:11go through, can he hold his line though crucially
17:13on the Ducati because Andy Irwin's coming back
17:15at him, look at the speed from Andy Irwin
17:17how has he done that
17:19just kept it going on the outside line
17:21we know that they're on this really good
17:23mid-corner compared to the, on the side
17:25of the tyre as they say, compared to the Ducati
17:27but that was brave, and you
17:29never lacked any
17:31bravery has he, no certainly not
17:33Kyle Ride trying to pounce himself there in fourth
17:35he won't want to stay in fourth place
17:37he can't stay in fourth place
17:39let's have another look at this
17:41he almost lost the rear end
17:43he's just coming out as he opens the throttle, turns it back
17:45to square the exit off and there he goes
17:47he controlled that so well because
17:49if you notice he didn't snap the throttle shut
17:51and have the rear grip and click him
17:53up straight
17:57through into Paddock Hill Bend again, that defensive
17:59entry from Andy Irwin in second and he'll
18:01do it again now into Druids as well
18:03but there's some speed from Glenn, he can't find
18:05a way through, so he's having to go to that
18:07outside line, yeah just to stop himself hitting
18:09the back end of his brother
18:11he's getting on the power again, he's twitching to the rear end
18:13Ryan Vick is still there in fifth, Danny Kemp behind
18:15and Max Cooke there present as well as
18:17Leon Hasler, but it's still Tommy Bradwell
18:19the lead, I was just going to say while all
18:21this is going on, Tommy Bradwell is sitting in his own
18:23pace, running his own lines
18:25conserving that tyre which might
18:27just come into effect at the end of this race
18:29and team Honda are trying to put as much
18:31information on a pit board as is physically possible
18:35Glenn Irwin then this time goes through
18:37this time it will work
18:39Glenn Irwin is still going to give it a good go
18:41but now Irwin is through
18:43Glenn up to P2 and now
18:45hunts down Tommy Bradwell
18:47yeah well Kyle Wright has to
18:49hope that Glenn Irwin can get in front of
18:51Tommy Bradwell here
18:53now Glenn Irwin has closed
18:55way up to the tail of Tommy Bradwell
18:57is he now going to pounce on
18:59his old foe, his old team mate
19:01Tommy, he's got the drive, he's right in
19:03the toe, he's in the slipstream, it's Glenn Irwin
19:05surely he's going to pull to the inside line
19:07and he flies past Tommy Bradwell
19:09and Tommy won't mind that
19:11it's Glenn, that doesn't matter
19:13in the context of the championship
19:15no it doesn't, it might in the context of the race
19:17depending what pace
19:19Glenn can keep going, the car is
19:21really difficult to pass because it has
19:23some disadvantages but it also has some
19:25advantages, the advantage is it's fairly
19:27sharp down the straights, it's difficult for you
19:29on any other bike to get yourself in a
19:31position where you can get through on the brakes
19:33now Tommy will be informed on his pit board
19:35where Kyle is and that's all that matters
19:37is he going to get tempted into a battle though with Glenn Irwin
19:39look at that pit board, he's informed of everything
19:41including what time Teal will take place
19:47it's lap 7 of 20
19:49and Vickers is coming to the
19:51party as well, yeah Vickers has got
19:53a choice here, he
19:55if he thinks he can get out front and either
19:57back him up or
19:59kind of help his team mate by
20:01being in front of him and going forward
20:03and he's got to do that, but what he doesn't want to do is
20:05hinder his team, oh Kyle Rhyde
20:07big and brave, that's a brave move
20:09that is a brave move, he knew he had to do it
20:11he flies through, Irwin tries
20:13to retaliate, it doesn't quite work
20:15and Kyle Rhyde, hats off
20:17he knew he had to make that move because they're all
20:19ganging up behind, he himself
20:21will have the information on his pit board
20:23that there's a big group behind, now what can
20:25Kyle do, this is so fast
20:27through here, yeah it is
20:29that's an incredibly difficult move
20:31to make, oh Brightwell's had a big moment
20:33there, what happened to Tommy
20:35he stays in second place but
20:37he lost all momentum and Andy Irwin snuck through
20:39a gap there, it didn't look like there was one
20:41yeah I think what happened there was Kyle Rhyde
20:43was sort of startled, oh Rhyde
20:45just on the inside of Andy Irwin
20:47again, Kyle Rhyde startled there
20:49by the, oh
20:51and that's Andy Irwin out the seat, he's pushing on
20:53as well, loses another place to
20:55Ryan Vickers, oh the blue
20:57army and the red army, did they touch
20:59they can't touch it surely
21:01I think he clipped
21:03no it's just rear end, yeah there's a little bit
21:05of a bump there, that's a big one
21:07that's probably 165
21:09miles an hour
21:11oh it's blue on red everywhere
21:13we look at the moment, there is Glenn Irwin
21:15that leads from Tommy Brightwell and Kyle
21:17Rhyde, the two fighting it out for the championship
21:19and Kyle is looking as aggressive
21:21as we've seen him all year, as what he needs
21:23to be, and they're
21:25all just closing up a bit here on Glenn Irwin
21:27has he used too much of his tyre early on
21:29and he's
21:31going to go again, he's doing it again
21:33Kyle Rhyde and he executes it perfectly
21:35once more, what a brilliant move
21:37from Kyle
21:39I can't talk now
21:41this is unbelievable
21:43Brightwell still leads the championship
21:45by one point
21:47and Kyle will know that
21:49he's trying to line up a move now on Glenn Irwin
21:51here comes Tommy
21:53Tommy Brightwell fighting back, look at the gap
21:55that they've put in between themselves and the rest of the field
21:57will Kyle have a look up the inside into
21:59Panigale Bend, yes he will
22:01Kyle Rhyde, can he hold the apex
22:03yes he can, I think he can
22:05now he would be the champion
22:07here comes Glenn Irwin again
22:09he's going to go defensive, Tommy Brightwell
22:11comes round the outside and closes the door on Tommy
22:13oh this is proper stuff this
22:15gloves off as ever
22:17what a battle in BSB
22:19now Kyle
22:21Kyle would win it, it's winner takes
22:23all in Bennett's BSB, we're on lap
22:259, up 20, Kyle
22:27would win it by a single point right now
22:29as things stand, Brightwell though
22:31into the slipstream of the OMG Yamaha
22:33can he pull over to the inside, he's got Glenn
22:35for company, they touch, on the approach
22:37to Hawthorne, they're both going to run wide
22:39I can't believe this
22:41incredible action
22:43that is incredible
22:45that's allowed just a bit of breathing space
22:47for Kyle, yes it has, and look who's
22:49now joining them, Danny Kent
22:51with brilliant speed as well
22:53oh we're going to have to catch our breath here
22:57into Stirlings, Brightwell
22:59with a lunge up the inside
23:01can he hold his line, that was done
23:03so well, yeah that's his signature move, he's so
23:05confident there, from Sheen Curve and into
23:07Stirlings
23:09and Irwin's back through
23:11yeah he ran a little bit wider, Irwin had the pace
23:13down the straight, look at the speed
23:15absolutely crazy stuff
23:17Brightwell doesn't want to lose sight of Kyle Ryde
23:19Danny Kent now coming through, number 52
23:21as well, Max Cook's also in the picture
23:23he's got up ahead of Ryan Vickers
23:25but look, all this is happening
23:27and Kyle Ryde has just got himself what
23:29eight, nine tenths, yeah but
23:31listen, let's calm down now because
23:33that is mainly because, calm down
23:35oh look at, did you see Tommy
23:37lose a rear there, we've got to see that again
23:39this down the fastest straight, look at this
23:41touching, elbowing into each other
23:43just to stop the handlebars getting involved
23:45ah
23:47watch this, watch this
23:49watch the rear of Tommy's, look at that
23:51he doesn't even close the throttle
23:53incredible action, incredible
23:55and now Tommy has got to fight the
23:57screen, he's got to try and close that gap to Kyle Ryde
23:59out front, as it stands, Ryde would be
24:01the champion
24:03dropping down the hill
24:05into Graham Hill Bend, look how
24:07much they've broken the rest of the field, yeah they've gone
24:091.4 up on Glenn Irwin
24:11in third, and that's somehow
24:13that makes sense, that's apt somehow
24:15for me, it is apt
24:17we want to see these two stand toe to toe
24:19but they've had to really dig deep here
24:21they've had to swat away
24:23everyone else and their interest and now Tommy
24:25is coming up alongside Kyle
24:27Ryde, he doesn't make the move into Hawthorns
24:29he's done the hard work, he's
24:31closed that gap down, that was about
24:339 tenths that gap, yeah and he doesn't have to do anything
24:35now, he can take his time
24:37Ryde will be given that
24:39information on his pit board, that Tommy
24:41is right behind him, it's
24:43winner takes all remember, whoever wins
24:45this race, wins the championship
24:47in 2024, and
24:49here comes the move from Tommy
24:51light clockwork, Drew Sterling
24:53does he hold his line, he does, he's got the inside
24:55line for the next corner, Tommy leads
24:57yeah, that was a clean move
24:59that started at Sheen Curve, and actually
25:01Kyle Ryde said that Tommy's
25:03so strong at Sheen Curve, the bike was
25:05light, but on its side, it's really weird
25:07but you've got to wait until the thing settles
25:09to actually get the throttle on, to get
25:11to Sterling's, and he said Tommy's really
25:13good at that, or the bike's got an advantage or whatever
25:15but he's just better there, it was a 25
25:178 from Kyle Ryde, that's a slower
25:19lap, they're both in the low
25:2125's, they're pretty much
25:23identical lap times, yeah, absolutely
25:25now, where can Kyle
25:27get the move done, earlier on James
25:29he was supreme into Hawthorns
25:31he had the move into Clearway, but even the
25:33Hawthorns, Bobby, it relies on the fact
25:35that you're close enough coming out
25:37you've got better pace
25:39coming out onto the straight, so
25:41that's a set-up move, that isn't
25:43a sort of one
25:45it just doesn't happen all at once, you've got to set that up
25:47and it starts now
25:49it starts now, this is where
25:51the OMG gorilla Yamaha of Kyle Ryde
25:53is going to try and find some
25:55magic, and he's got good drive here, he's got
25:57the slipstream as well, he'll pull over to that inside
25:59line, and will he make a move? No
26:01not this time
26:03will Tommy and Honda have worked
26:05on a few areas after the race from earlier
26:07to try and make sure that that doesn't
26:09happen, absolutely, both teams have
26:11I know that Kyle's looking at how to
26:13settle the front going
26:15into Stirling, where he was losing out a little bit
26:17what we did see earlier is two big
26:19big bold moves there
26:21on the approach into Sheen Curve
26:23from Kyle Ryde, and he's doing
26:25okay so far is Kyle, he's right with him
26:27it's Kyle's sister on
26:29the left there Chelsea, just anxiously
26:31watching on, and Elizabeth, Tommy's mum
26:33at the top there, no one's going to have any
26:35fingernails left at the end of this one
26:37another lap, kicks
26:39by, it stays as it
26:41was, and again this is going to be almost identical
26:43lap times, you do feel that Tommy
26:45just has a little bit of drive
26:47out of some of the corners over Kyle as well
26:49through
26:51Paddock Hill Bend, lovely style there
26:53from Kyle Ryde, what you should point out here James is
26:55that both in the mid to low
26:57125's, this is supreme
26:59pace, at really low temperatures
27:01they're going to run out of tyre chute
27:03shortly as well, you would think so, yeah you would think
27:05the tyres are taking a bit of a pounding here
27:07look at the styles, completely different, Tommy a little bit
27:09more old school, like you'd expect, he's been riding
27:11a long time as Tommy, a little bit more
27:13upright in the body, whereas Kyle
27:15look, you see that rear shock where Kyle's
27:17hunched over the bike, elbow next to
27:19his knee, head and
27:21helmet next to his handlebar, yeah
27:23beautiful, especially through Paddock Hill Bend
27:25Kyle then, another particular
27:27look into Cawthorne's, Kyle
27:29does go through, now earlier on on the cutback
27:31Tommy managed to master his way back through
27:33does that happen again, no
27:35it doesn't, so Kyle now
27:37leads the championship, remember whoever
27:39wins this race, has the title
27:41and Tommy has got to fight
27:43back immediately, is it going to be his favourite
27:45move, the left-hander coming up here
27:47close enough, into Stirling, close enough
27:49yes it is, and Kyle
27:51almost surprised by it
27:53yeah I think that was a little bit later than
27:55the previous moves, didn't have just as much
27:57speed around Sheen Curve, or
27:59Kyle had a little bit more
28:01this is one of the issues that Kyle
28:03has got here James, he knows
28:05at will Tommy can pull that move off
28:07exactly that, exactly that
28:09I think if he's in front at that point on the
28:11last lap he's got to defend like mad, I don't
28:13think there's anything else he can do, running up that left-hand
28:15side, sacrifice a little bit of speed
28:17at Stirling, but even then that might
28:19give Tommy the advantage coming out of the corner
28:21yeah, fascinating stuff here, not sure
28:23what Kyle can do about Tommy
28:25because Tommy is using every
28:27single ounce and year of
28:29his experience, yes he is, but they
28:31have an experience in track racing
28:33Kyle's got as much, he's been racing
28:35since he was five years old
28:37Kyle Wright, not going through
28:39here, I don't think he should
28:41go through there, because that would mean Tommy
28:43would have the advantage down the straight
28:45it's here where he's got to try and wind
28:47it up, doesn't look quite close enough
28:49this time, to have a look, but he's still
28:51going to go off into the inside, and he's still going to
28:53have a go on Tommy Bridewell into
28:55Hawthorns
28:57and again he's going to hold that line, but Tommy's
28:59fighting back again, and Tommy's got the inside
29:01line, number one on the Honda, Tommy
29:03back through, this is unbelievable
29:05still, Kyle Wright
29:07then, will he go for the big bold
29:09move now into Sheen, no
29:11incredible racing this
29:13what a day it's been between Tommy
29:15and Kyle, Tommy leads at the moment
29:17and would take the crown
29:20now, earlier on today
29:22there was a big move down into clearways
29:24from Kyle, can he set that up, is that a rehearsal?
29:26but you don't want to set that up, if you are
29:28going to try that one, he needs to leave it
29:30to the last lap, because it is
29:32last ditched up, you don't want to give
29:34Tommy any advantage on knowing
29:36what you're going to do and where
29:38good laps again from the pair of them, pretty much
29:40identical once more, from Tommy
29:42and Kyle, they're ten seconds clear of the rest
29:44of the field, yeah there's nobody else in this, this is a
29:46this is a championship right in front of you
29:48Vickers is into third
29:50and he's lapping quicker than these two
29:52but I don't think there will be enough time for him to
29:54join into the party and help out Kyle
29:56I don't think so
29:58Graham Hill again, this is where Kyle now
30:00will stay in second, you would think
30:02you would think, you would think
30:04no he doesn't, he doesn't, he does go through
30:06into 30s to just mix it up a bit perhaps
30:08now can he hold this line
30:10because you would now assume that Tommy
30:12is going to get the drive, he now gets into the
30:14slipstream and he will pull over to the inside
30:16and try and tackle Kyle, he won't
30:18there, Kyle now
30:20is able to use his sweeping fast lines
30:22on the Yamaha, is this actually
30:24very clever from Kyle pulling off
30:26the move where he did, I don't, do you think
30:28he's going to pull enough so that Tommy
30:30can't get through, that's his plan
30:32obviously, it's going to be maybe the only plan
30:34that's his plan, but again Tommy
30:36is so quick here, well he's pushing up
30:38and he's going to pull off the move again is he
30:40he's going to have a look and he's got to keep
30:42retaliating there, he has, he has to keep reminding
30:44Kyle, that he can do that
30:46that he can do that, I think last lap
30:48if Kyle's in front, if he can get in front, he's got to defend
30:50like mad and just risk the fact that
30:52Tommy might get out still into
30:54a little bit quicker, the laps are ticking by
30:56Tommy losing the rear there, they
30:58are trying so hard, they are
31:00trying so hard, this is brilliant stuff
31:02from the pair of them again, they're both on
31:0425.9s and again, Vickers
31:06faster than him behind, by about 3 tenths
31:08of a second, but that's not just quite going to be
31:10enough to catch him, and would you want to get
31:12involved anyway? No, not unless
31:14Tommy was in second, yeah, but
31:16right now, you've just got to grab the popcorn
31:18and watch this, two riders
31:20that have been sensational in
31:222024, you could make
31:24arguments for saying they both deserve it, they've both
31:26been tremendous, and they
31:28both do, it will be
31:30really harsh on whoever misses out
31:32here, but who is going to
31:34land the last blow
31:36Kyle this time doesn't look at the
31:38move into 30s, but he will surely
31:40have a look again now, into
31:42Hawthorne's, and this is so fast, he's making
31:44it look easy, but it's really not
31:46true again then for Kyle
31:48Ryde on the Yamaha, Tommy wants an inside
31:50he might have it this time, oh he's losing a bit of
31:52traction though, the front end was a bit loose
31:54lost the rear, then the front end lifted
31:56but again, Tommy now knows
31:58what's going to happen, he's got to have another
32:00look into Stirling's, to start
32:02the penultimate lap of the race, well
32:04you can't say that either of them didn't
32:06put 100% into this, can you? They have
32:08nothing out there, it's been
32:10unbelievable, there's nothing
32:12left, nothing left on the tyres, Tommy
32:14thinking about the move into Paddykill Bend
32:16and the lunge there, Tommy's strung into Druid's
32:18as well, will he now try and line that up
32:20as he gets into the slipstream, they are
32:22screaming to create that Paddykill Bend
32:24and he's had the inside into the
32:26Stirling's, no, another comeback
32:28Kyle gets it, a twitch from Tommy
32:30Bridewell as well, this is fantastic, oh
32:32Bridewell on the inside into Graham Hill
32:34Brent Bend, that is unbelievable
32:36what are we watching here
32:38they touch, they touch
32:40Bridewell now
32:42through to 13, this is the penultimate
32:44lap, Bridewell
32:46Kyle Ryde lucky
32:48to stay on, unbelievable, that was not his
32:50fault, that was just two people
32:52wanting to be on the same bit of tarmac there
32:54this time, Bridewell a bit
32:56defensive into Hawthorne, trying not to
32:58allow Kyle Ryde a sniff at it
33:00you have to take your hat off
33:02look who's coming, Vickers is nearly on him
33:04because these kids, they keep on taking
33:06lumps out of each other, we've got to keep
33:08going at this, you never know here, Brian Vickers
33:10could come to the rescue
33:12but we are about to start
33:14the final lap
33:16what can Kyle Ryde do
33:18about the defending champion
33:20he's got a lap and a couple of corners
33:22both of these lads need the lap of their
33:24lives for this, and you would not doubt
33:26that they would put that on either, into
33:28the last corner to start the last
33:30lap of 2024
33:32and it's Tommy versus
33:34Kyle, it has been
33:36unbelievable so far, what's
33:38in store here around Brands Hatch GP
33:40into Paddock Hill Bend, that's one
33:42overtaken opportunity gone, he's gone wide
33:44can he make it in, no
33:46on the cutback he can't quite get through, will he have a
33:48look up the inside, no he won't, go
33:50this'll be it, Tommy's parking
33:52it here, he's defensive through these corners
33:54yeah which does that suggest mate, oh hang
33:56on, no he won't
33:58do it into Graham Hill Bend, it's too risky
34:00it's going to maybe be, will it be another lunge into
34:02Surtees, has he got the drive here
34:04coming up now, it's worked earlier
34:06on but defensive again from Tommy
34:08that's going to cost him time coming out the corner
34:10though look, and now the drive
34:12for Kyle, Tommy Bridewell once again
34:14will try and go defensive here, and make
34:16Kyle work for it, Kyle might not be close
34:18enough here, let's see if he's going to have a
34:20look, he's got to, it's the last lap of the
34:22race, and he's through on the inside
34:24does he hold the line, Tommy Bridewell
34:26trying to get back through, and they're side by side
34:28big rear wheel movement there from Bridewell
34:30but it's brave from the reigning champ
34:32and he somehow holds on, no he doesn't
34:34he's wide, and will that cost him now
34:36it's cost him a little bit of time
34:38he might not be able to get close enough, I don't think he can
34:40oh yes he is though, he's still going to
34:42give it his all here, he can't pull off his favourite
34:44move, it's going to have to be down
34:46into clearways, yeah
34:48Kyle was defensive there
34:50this is last corner stop for the championship
34:52last corner, the winner takes it
34:54all here in BSB, there was a
34:56jump there from Kyle, Tommy's coming
34:58as well, it's going to be a run to the line
35:00Bridewell's rear goes, Kyle
35:02Ride is the BSB champ
35:04for 2024
35:06unbelievable, what a race
35:08the best ever
35:10the best race ever
35:12I can't believe, that was shocking
35:14what we've seen
35:16Kyle Ride has pulled something
35:18off there, unbelievable
35:20that was incredible, watch the
35:22respect here from these two because they've got to have it
35:24and that was clean, every single
35:26move clean, look at that
35:28I mean you have to take your
35:30hat off to these two
35:32on screen, neither
35:34deserve to lose
35:36this championship, neither
35:38that's respect
35:40unreal
35:42Kyle Ride, I have to say
35:44that's the best race I've ever
35:46seen, either from behind
35:48the screen or behind
35:50the TV screen, well
35:52commiserations to the Honda team
35:54and congratulations
35:56to Alan Gardner here and
35:58Paul Curran, that's Jordan Bird going to
36:00congratulate them as well
36:0227 year old Kyle Ride
36:04has mastered something, that last lap
36:06James, he had to be creative
36:08did he have to fight for that?
36:10absolutely, defensive where he needed to be
36:12he sussed it out, but Tommy, fair
36:14play, how hard did they both
36:16fight for that, Tommy was completely
36:18sideways at the last corner
36:20completely, the thing's lit up
36:22you have to feel for Tommy, he's put
36:24everything into that, listen he'll go to bed tonight
36:26knowing he couldn't have done any more
36:28and you couldn't, as a person
36:30you couldn't want a better champion
36:32good luck to the guys trying to clip up the highlights
36:34for that one, goodness
36:36me
36:38just getting my breath back
36:40what a race
36:42the only thing they've done wrong there is just
36:44how crumpled up the number one sticker is on the
36:46front of the ammo, I think it's the only mistake they've made all year
36:48forgive them for that
36:50their hands are shaking, I just can't believe
36:52what we've witnessed, that was such an
36:54unbelievable last lap, big moment
36:56let's not forget that, the creeper straight they touched
36:58Carl could have gone down, yeah but that's
37:00nobody's fault, that was just, honestly
37:02that was as clean
37:04as you're going to get that kind of battle, there's so much
37:06respect between them two, and fair play to
37:08Tommy, how you could not
37:10give it a better go than that, not at all
37:14let's get results and standings
37:16up there, for the
37:18final race of the season, it was
37:20winner takes all, and it's Kyle
37:22Ride who's won it, two tenths
37:24clear of Tommy Bridewell, but
37:26the page doesn't really tell half
37:28the tale, Vickers finished third, another
37:30couple of laps, he'd have been in on the action,
37:32fourth better cook, brilliant weekend for Cook
37:34Brooks was sixth, then
37:36Glenn Irwin, Nesbitt eighth, Andy
37:38Irwin ninth, Billy McConnell tenth,
37:40Hickman eleventh, Stacey
37:42in twelfth
37:44I can't even get my breath back just to read through the standings
37:46Rollo's 13th, Buck and 14th
37:48Brayden Elliott takes the final
37:50point in 15th
37:52and after 32
37:54races in an epic
37:562024 season
37:58how many points split them? One
38:00Kyle Ride
38:02wins it by a point, last
38:04year half a point, this year
38:06a point, I've got some kind of PTSD
38:08or I've been shot upside
38:10and I can't believe what I've seen, I've never seen a race
38:12like that. Oh they have amassed
38:14more points than the eventual champion last
38:16year, you have to say credit to all
38:18that took part, these are your final standings
38:20in 2024
38:22Kyle Ride
38:24you are the 2024 Bennetts British Superbike
38:26champion
38:28no more Mr Nice Guy eh?
38:30God that was
38:32so tough
38:34fair play to Tommy
38:36it was
38:38it was very harsh, most of
38:40the race but it was very clean
38:42what's expected really, trying to
38:44win a second championship
38:46and make a history
38:48winning on two different manufacturers back to back
38:50God I've worked so hard for that
38:52especially this weekend with that wet race, that's what got
38:54me this win, only being
38:56a point off coming into Sunday
38:58one of my best racers actually come second
39:00and I don't know how many passes
39:02were made in that race but I fully
39:04enjoyed it
39:06absolutely gobsmacked
39:08I'm shaking like a
39:10I can't swear
39:12but yeah thanks Matt
39:14honestly, tell us about the plan if you
39:16can Kyle because them last couple of laps
39:18it was clear that Tommy
39:20in fact we'll just give you a moment
39:22because Tommy's coming in so we'll let you share
39:24this moment together
39:26from one champion to another
39:28you know what
39:36he's got a few more in him yeah, I'm a bit older than him
39:38but the little bastard's got a few
39:40more in him
39:42we'll see about that, I'm sure you have Kyle
39:44but you've worked so hard for such a long time for this
39:46you've been a fixture in this paddock for what, a decade
39:48or more, you must have thought about
39:50this moment so many times
39:52yeah I mean, I tried not to think about it the last
39:54couple of months, although I was catching up
39:56and yeah, to be honest
39:58I was chilled for that race, I knew what I had to do
40:00I had to win the race and every time I got behind
40:02Tommy, I'd just brake five metres later
40:04than what he did and there was no plan
40:06it was just whoever made the best pass
40:08and made it stick into Stirling's because he was so good
40:10into Stirling's, I was bricking it every time
40:12I went into there so tight that it was still going to
40:14pass me and we were going to both go down but
40:16it was very close, very fair, it's been fair
40:18with Tommy all year, love racing with him
40:20hats off, credit to my team
40:22thanks to them, Alan, Paul, everyone
40:24all my family, everything we've ever done
40:26since I was a kid
40:28all the remortgaged houses, everything that's
40:30ever been done, that's repaid
40:32them all, so yeah, thanks. Couple of gin and tonics
40:34tonight? Oh, 100% mate, 100%
40:36Kyle, listen, congratulations, Dan Coupon, such a
40:38great show here for everybody
40:40everybody's so happy for you as well, well done mate
40:42thank you, thanks everyone, cheers. Now it's the
40:44moment for Kyle Ride
40:46as I said, youngest ever British 125
40:48champion in 2011, age 14
40:50he then went on to win the
40:52Superstock 600 championship
40:54a couple of years later in 2014
40:56and then had a little play in
40:58World Supersport, he got that podium at Donington
41:00as a wild card, yeah, it was too early in his
41:02career, it did come a bit early
41:04yeah, it did, and it was the World Champions
41:06team mate, which wasn't easy
41:08no, not easy
41:10at all, but here we see
41:12Bradley Hoynes out there
41:14from Bennetts, joined by of course Stuart
41:16Higgs and Jonathan Palmer, about to hand
41:18the
41:20BSB title of 2024
41:22to 27 year old
41:24Kyle Ride from
41:26Jacksdale
41:28and he deserves
41:30every single bit of applause
41:32that he gets, he has been
41:34phenomenal, seven races in the last
41:36four rounds, he's won, yeah
41:38it's been, you look back and you mentioned
41:40Knock Hill, on that Sunday he was so
41:42ill, he didn't think he could race, and a big
41:44crash, a big crash in
41:46warm up, and he didn't think he could race, he was on a drip
41:48and scored 14th and a 15th
41:50three points
41:52and guess what, and he's won the
41:54championship, and those passes
41:56on Cook and
41:58Hickey yesterday, and from Cadwell
42:00Park onwards, where he cleaned up
42:02with the most points, he's just looked on
42:04song, he's brought different areas
42:06to his game, he's had more
42:08fight, he's had more self belief
42:10and today, the display
42:12was something else, what a final
42:14race, one we'll be talking about for many years
42:16to come, as Jonathan Palmer hands
42:18over the British Superbike
42:20crown of 2024
42:22to Kyle Ride
42:32So there you go, arguably the greatest
42:34finish ever to a Bennett's British Superbike
42:36championship, it all came down
42:38to the final corner, two riders
42:40going at it for the win on the final
42:42lap, and it's Kyle Ride by
42:44one point who is the 2024
42:46Bennett's British Superbike champion, we'll
42:48see you again next year
43:14time by time, big rear wheel move
43:16from Brightwell, but it's brave from the
43:18reigning champ, and he somehow holds on
43:20no he doesn't, he's wide
43:22and the winner takes it all here in BSB
43:24there was a bump there from Kyle
43:26Tommy's coming as well, it's going to be a run
43:28to the line, Brightwell's rear goes
43:30Kyle Ride is the
43:32BSB champ
43:38God that was
43:40so tough
43:42Berkeley to Tommy
43:44God what's so hard for that
