00:04as strange, distorted creatures snarl at the heavens.
00:07From the ruins of this structure, a lone human figure emerges.
00:10Blood-smeared and stumbling through the snow, a helicopter above tracks his every step
00:15as soldiers on the bridge get ready to fire.
00:17Despite numerous shots to his chest, he casually brushes them off and keeps moving.
00:22We then rewind a month to a world transformed, verdant greens envelop the landscape,
00:26and distant crickets chirp.
00:28Our main character, Cha Hyun-Soo, arrives in the town.
00:31He lives alone and appears withdrawn, keeping a distance from the maintenance man mowing the lawn.
00:36Inside his darkened apartment, he sits in solitude as curtains flutter and police sirens wail outside.
00:42Wrestling with thoughts of ending his life, Hyun-Soo eventually climbs to the rooftop and peers over the edge.
00:48He's interrupted by a girl across the building, Lee Eun-Yoo, practicing ballet moves.
00:52She steps in chewing gum and, after questioning Hyun-Soo about his actions,
00:56advises him against ending his life, noting it would cause significant trouble for everyone else in the building.

01:22Something seems off about this man, and Hyun-Soo senses it, peeking through the peephole to see what he's up to.
01:27Meanwhile, Ji-Soo sits in her room, smoking before heading out to work.
01:31With a bass guitar slung on her back, she waits for the elevator and encounters another resident,
01:36a peculiar woman pushing an empty pram.
01:38Ji-Soo soon discovers that the woman is dealing with grief as Jung Jae-Hoon introduces himself in the hallway.
01:43A Korean language teacher with strong religious beliefs, Jae-Hoon is one of the building's more intriguing residents.
01:49Other residents include the shady Pyeon Sang-Wook,
01:51who smokes in his room while torturing someone bound in tape on the floor.
01:55Sang-Wook extinguishes his cigarette in the man's mouth as he struggles to breathe.
01:59Hyun-Soo learns he's been chosen to test an upcoming game remake,
02:02and is instructed to go to G Tower on August 25th.
02:05Coincidentally, that's the date marked in his calendar.
02:08That evening, Hyun-Soo heads out to collect his package,
02:10but finds a trail of blood and ramyeon noodles leading to a woman crying for help.
02:15Disconcerned, Hyun-Soo retreats to his room, but eventually interacts with his neighbor at the door.
02:19She insists her cat is missing and begs him to open up.
02:22When he asks to see her arms, she becomes hysterical and flees, with blood streaming from her nose.
02:27As Hyun-Soo steps outside, he discovers the girl is gone.
02:30He collapses in front of Sang-Wook, who was outside Ji-Soo's door, and manages to bend the metal.
02:35Ji-Soo, unsure of what else to do, grabs a baseball bat.
02:38With a security guard absent, doors locked, and a killer on the loose,
02:42the residents converge in the main atrium to devise a plan.
02:45They eventually break into the manager's office,
02:47where firefighter Yi-Kyung tries to call emergency services, but finds them overwhelmed.
02:52With phone lines down and emergency lights unintentionally turned on,
02:55they inadvertently open the main gates.
02:57This proves disastrous, as they encounter a bizarre creature outside.
03:02With its mouth wide open and a twisting tentacle smashing through the glass,
03:06it evokes memories of Resident Evil's monsters as it goes on a rampage.
03:10Eun-Hyuk seizes a fire extinguisher and takes charge,
03:13directing everyone to close the shutters and fend off the creature.
03:16It's a tense moment as Ji-Kyung pushes the creature back just in time.
03:20As the residents regroup, they realize the outside world has been overrun by these creatures.
03:25When one of the creatures growls,
03:27the residents inside the apartment complex understand that their world has irrevocably changed.
03:32Back in his room, Hyun-Soo starts bleeding heavily from his nose.
03:36We begin Episode 2 with a look at 19-year-old Hyun-Soo back at home,
03:40with scars up his arm seemingly hinting at self-harming.
03:43He continues to play video games and disregards his mother's pleas to head out for a family trip.
03:48His behavior is clearly dividing the family,
03:50but as they argue in the car, his father starts bleeding profusely from the nose
03:54and passes out, subsequently crashing the car.
03:56As the only one of his family to survive, Hyun-Soo is given 30 million won,
04:00but berates the trivial amount of money he's left with.
04:03This catches us up to the present as Sang-Wook is attacked on the stairwell
04:06by the deranged girl from before.
04:08After biting a chunk out of his back, he beats the girl down,
04:11leaving her in a bloody mess.
04:13Meanwhile, Soo-Eun helps Ji-Kyung move the corpse from the hallway
04:16and eventually sends a picture of him to his family.
04:19Down in the basement, however, Ji-Soo finds a security guard laughing and calling out for manager Han.
04:24As blood gushes down his face,
04:26she instinctively smacks the man before Yoon-Hyuk saves her from her ordeal.
04:30In the midst of all this chaos, the residents all receive an emergency message
04:34confirming what's happening outside.
04:36As they check the news, they realize that this disease is nationwide
04:40and right now they're in damage control mode.
04:42The creature on the stairs stands back up again,
04:44twisting and contorting as it begins ascending the stairs toward the other residents.
04:49In the main atrium, the group gathers to try to figure out what to do
04:53and contemplate whether they should all reconvene on the 7th floor or not.
04:57Fighting inevitably breaks out as everyone begins disagreeing over the best course of action.
05:02The arrival of Sang-Wook soon changes the dynamic of the room.
05:05Given he's been bitten, the other residents cower away from him
05:09before he's eventually tasered and knocked out on the ground.
05:12Eight hours later, Yoon-Soo struggles to keep his nose from bleeding.
05:15He heads online and sees numerous people talking about this disease
05:18and how they're calling it a curse.
05:20No one seems to know where it originated from and given the rate it's spreading,
05:24it seems unlikely they'll find a solution that won't result in many people dying.
05:28Unfortunately, the internet connection is severed
05:30and goes down before he can get a chance to research further.
05:33Yoon-Soo accidentally lets the creature into his room,
05:35which looks more like an overgrown gremlin now.
05:38It seems to have heightened hearing and is missing half its head.
05:41It's a tense affair, to say the least,
05:43as it stumbles around the room while Yoon-Soo holds his nerve long enough
05:47to see this creature eventually stumble away.
05:49With Sang-Wook tied up and held behind shutters,
05:52Sang-Won turns to Suk-Hyun for answers,
05:54given he's their makeshift leader now.
05:56Armed with a knife and a gas mask,
05:58he heads in intending to stab Sang-Wook but hesitates.
06:01It's a long enough pause for Sang-Wook to headbutt Suk-Hyun square in the face.
06:05Meanwhile, Jae-Hoon and Ji-Soo find the beaten man in the elevator.
06:08The former obviously knows he's the captive of Sang-Wook
06:11but for now decides against saying anything.
06:14Armed with a hammer, he joins them on the hunt.
06:16Elsewhere, the rest of the group contemplates
06:18whether to leave and head for the daycare center
06:20or stay there for the time being.
06:22Although the director, Jin-Ok, is against the idea,
06:25Yoon-Hyuk coolly shuts down her argument and eventually walks away.
06:29Up in one of the rooms, a resident hangs himself,
06:31which brings back bad memories for Ji-Soo,
06:33who remembers seeing a face from her past doing the exact same thing.
06:37Whoever it was, they left a post-it note
06:39telling her that the guitar is hers now.
06:41Hyun-Soo makes a bold decision to help out a resident in the apartment block below.
06:45A giant eyeball attached to a tentacle
06:47heads up the building and wraps around, squeezing him tightly.
06:50This happens to give his neighbor Do-Sik enough time to sever the eyeball
06:54and save Hyun-Soo's life before it's too late.
06:57Together, they decide to team up and save the kids.
06:59Knowing that his phone can attract the monsters,
07:02he prepares to head out and meets Do-Sik at his apartment.
07:05It turns out he's in a wheelchair
07:07and has a pretty nifty set of tools to use too.
07:09However, he warns Hyun-Soo about taking the monsters face-to-face
07:13and encourages him to play more tactically.
07:15This plays out in the form of a bouncy ball
07:17used as a distraction for the half-headed gremlin creature.
07:20Hyun-Soo manages to sneak up behind the creature
07:23and electrocute it with his makeshift spear.
07:25Suk-Hyun, meanwhile, makes his way into the convenience store
07:28where Yi-Kyung happens to be too.
07:29The food inside this store is literally all they have left
07:32and both Yi Yi-Kyung and Yoon Hyuk are well aware of that.
07:35In fact, both of them start to work out exactly how to ration the food
07:38and make it last if they're going to be stuck in there for a while.
07:41Suk-Hyun, though, is not willing to share anything.
07:44Meanwhile, Hyun-Soo charges down the hallway
07:46and manages to make it to the two kids
07:48as they realize their father has passed away.
07:50Unfortunately, things take a turn for the worse
07:53when Hyun-Soo's condition worsens
07:55and he begins bleeding profusely from the nose again.
07:57Only this time his eyes are blackened.
07:59Episode 3 starts with a repeat of the family trip from before
08:03but this time Hyun-Soo is in the car
08:05telling his parents they should die.
08:07All of this is a bad dream, of course,
08:09and as the shadow version of himself
08:11stares back menacingly in a mirror,
08:13Hyun-Soo awakens with a start.
08:15However, he still has darkened eyes.
08:17This is only made worse by another monster
08:19showing up at the apartment,
08:21smashing the walls to bits and trying to get to the kids.
08:23Ji-Soo and Jae-Hoon overhear the commotion
08:26and arrive behind Hyun-Soo to try and take down the behemoth.
08:29Together they drag Hyun-Soo to safety
08:31but notice his darkened eyes, which suddenly fade.
08:34He asks them both for help as blood stains his mouth.
08:37Unfortunately, the blind gremlin monster from before returns
08:40but the two kids manage to make it to safety
08:42before it reaches them.
08:44Both monsters start attacking one another
08:46and with them distracted, the kids hurry up to room 1408.
08:49Unfortunately, they're not alone
08:51as the giant beast chases after them,
08:54stalking ever closer.
08:56However, an unlikely ally comes in the form of Myung-Sook
08:59who shows up with her empty pram.
09:01She quickly receives a swift punch to the face for her troubles.
09:04With Myung-Sook on the ground,
09:06a sweet moment of acceptance washes over her
09:08as she sees her smiling baby on the floor next to her.
09:11As she smiles weakly,
09:12this monster smashes a fist down into her body.
09:15The group works together
09:16and manages to distract the monster long enough
09:19to make it to Doo-Sik's apartment.
09:21A seemingly recovered Myung-Sook makes it too
09:23and also recovers from the same dark-eyed infection Hyun-Soo had.
09:27Ye-Hoon leads the large monster to the window
09:30where it lunges at him and falls out to its doom.
09:32Presumably anyway, Sang-Wook patches his shoulder
09:35as he checks the news and sees a broadcast
09:37about the current monster outbreak.
09:39Bleeding from the mouth,
09:40the president tries to keep order
09:42but when he stumbles over and begins incoherently rambling,
09:45gunshots end the broadcast.
09:47Of course, this just causes more chaos.
09:49That chaos manifests itself in Suk-Hyun
09:52locking himself inside the convenience store
09:54and refusing to let anyone else in.
09:56Well, the resident from room 802,
09:59the one beaten down by Sang-Wook,
10:01shows up with a suitcase packed full of food.
10:03He distributes it to everyone
10:04but bloodstaining the lining raises alarm bells
10:07for some of those he hands food to.
10:09In room 1408,
10:10the team has a brief respite
10:12and reflects on their time together
10:13wondering exactly what they'll do next.
10:15Eventually, Hyun-Soo admits that he's infected
10:17and makes a pact with Ji-Soo
10:19that if either of them turns,
10:20they'll kill the other.
10:21They all survive the night
10:22as Eun-Hyeok gets on the tannoy in the morning
10:24and tells them to head up to the first floor
10:26where it's safe.
10:27Only Jin-Ok sees her daughter running for the apartment block
10:30which sends all the residents into a frenzy
10:32over what to do by the front doors.
10:34Soo-Wong rushes outside
10:36but unfortunately,
10:37a whipping tentacle protrudes and impales
10:39both him and Jin-Ok's daughter
10:41draining their life force
10:42as they're left in a bloody heap in the group.
10:44With two people dead
10:45and the residents in turmoil,
10:47episode 4 begins with a grieving Jin-Ok
10:49blaming Eun-Hyeok for what's happened.
10:51He's clearly stunned too
10:52and struggles to keep the residents under control.
10:55Meanwhile, Ji-Soo and Jae-Hoon head out in the morning
10:57armed with a makeshift shield
10:59made from a cupboard door to protect them.
11:01Just before they leave,
11:02Hyun-Soo decides to join them
11:03as the two kids thank him for rescuing them.
11:06The date is August 18th
11:07and it's officially day 4 of confinement.
11:09The various residents all begin working together
11:12to bring makeshift boards and barricades
11:14for the doorways downstairs.
11:15Ji-Kyung has a close encounter
11:17with a creature in the vents
11:18reminiscent of the liquor in Resident Evil.
11:21She manages to free herself
11:22from its monstrous tentacle
11:24but finds herself stuck
11:25and away from her phone as Sang-Won calls.
11:27She does make it back to Eun-Hyeok
11:29but berates him
11:30for knowing there was a monster lurking around.
11:32As she staggers away, air raid sirens wail
11:35as we hear more about what's happening around Korea.
11:37A news report confirms
11:39that the military will be in charge
11:40of all security and civil affairs from here on out.
11:43They're not quite sure
11:44how this infection has been spreading
11:46but they do know some key details.
11:48These creatures have excellent regenerative capabilities
11:50but the soldiers confirm
11:52there's a moment dubbed Golden Hour
11:53where these creatures can be killed
11:55by incinerating them.
11:56Right now, this seems to be the only solution
11:58to stopping their threat.
11:59Survive!
12:00Good luck!
12:01The soldier remarks before the broadcast ends.
12:03Hyun-Soo continues to have disturbing dreams
12:06before awakening in Eun-Hyeok's room.
12:08Eun-Hyeok's there too
12:09and he warns Hyun-Soo
12:10that things are going to be tough from here on out.
12:12That difficulty is compounded
12:13when he heads out to the main atrium
12:15where the rest of the residents are.
12:16Suk-Hyun wants to expel Hyun-Soo
12:19seeing him as a threat to their survival
12:21but they all eventually decide to vote on his fate.
12:23It goes right down to the wire
12:25until the final vote is declared invalid.
12:27And just like that, Suk-Hyun gets infected
12:30and begins bleeding profusely from the nose.
12:32When he wakes up,
12:33he finds himself in isolation with Hyun-Soo.
12:36Ji-Kyung, meanwhile, suffers from an upset stomach.
12:39While she tries to make sense of what's been happening,
12:41Ji-Soo comforts Jin-Ok
12:43who mourns the death of her daughter.
12:44Ji-Soo heads into the bathroom
12:46and notices a baseball bat resting against the wall.
12:48This triggers memories of the past
12:50as we see that the boy lending her a helping hand
12:52is also the owner of the guitar.
12:54Back in the present,
12:55Sang-Wook goes on the hunt
12:57and finds the room 802 resident he was torturing before.
13:01Sang-Wook beats him down until the boy escapes
13:03convincing the others to keep him locked up for now.
13:06This places him in the same room as Hyun-Soo and Suk-Hyun.
13:09He confronts Hyun-Soo
13:10and asks him how he can transform into a monster like him
13:13as Hyun-Soo begins to show signs of concern himself.
13:16Up in the apartments,
13:17Doo-Sik opens the bathroom door
13:19but finds a massive sack
13:20that seems to be holding a child inside.
13:22With his gun in hand,
13:23he remains shocked by what he's seen
13:25and deliberates over his next move.
13:27The fifth episode begins with Eun-Hyuk
13:29calling for Hyun-Soo
13:30and taking him out of isolation.
13:32It turns out that he's going to be doing
13:34all the dangerous work from now on
13:36and that includes finding Doo-Sik
13:37and saving him from his predicament.
13:39As we cut back to Doo-Sik,
13:41he deliberates with the bathroom,
13:42a task made more difficult
13:44when he remembers Myung-Suk's story about her daughter.
13:46Eventually, he decides to shut the door
13:48and stay put for now.
13:49Eun-Hyuk eventually backs up Sang-Woon
13:51as he remains determined to head back
13:53into the main area of the apartment building.
13:55Opening the locked door,
13:56Hyun-Soo holds back
13:57while Sang-Wook goes on ahead.
13:59Eun-Hyuk's words weigh heavily on him,
14:01especially as he tells Hyun-Soo to rescue Doo-Sik
14:03and that the kids are secondary.
14:05It's pretty cold
14:06but something that he collaborates with Yoon-Yoo over,
14:08telling her that Hyun-Soo
14:09may be their strongest weapon
14:11to use in this coming fight.
14:12It also turns out
14:13that the votes from before
14:15were completely legit
14:16and not at all staged
14:17like he initially intended to do.
14:19As they talk,
14:20Eun-Suk mentions
14:21the Kru Kru blog he saw online,
14:23specifically a post about how
14:25this isn't really a disease
14:27but actually a curse.
14:28Upstairs, Sang-Wook and Hyun-Soo
14:30work together to navigate through the burning rooms
14:32as a lightning-quick monster
14:34with a pulsing orange heart arrives
14:36and begins chasing them.
14:37Thankfully, our two new characters
14:39are on hand and enter the fray.
14:41A crossbow-wielding girl called Yuri
14:43and her elderly patient.
14:44Sang-Wook heads up to room 802
14:46and begins sifting through
14:48Sung-Jae's belongings.
14:49Using the keys he swiped in the last episode,
14:51Sang-Wook sees numerous pictures
14:53of different kids beaten
14:54and pictures of them up on the wall,
14:56a disgusting, twisted trophy cabinet.
14:58Now it becomes apparent
15:00exactly why this man was beaten
15:01as badly as he was.
15:02Hyun-Soo, Ji-Soo, and the old man
15:04make it to the apartment holding Doo-Sik.
15:06Inside, Hyun-Sook sees the sack
15:08in the bathroom for himself
15:09and contemplates what to do next.
15:11Meanwhile, Sang-Wook heads down to the basement
15:14but is blindsided by Sung-Jae
15:16who bashes him over the head
15:17with a hammer several times.
15:18Eventually, Sung-Jae gets his just desserts
15:21as Sang-Wook beats this man down to a pulp.
15:23Dragging his lifeless body to the front,
15:25he lifts up the shutters,
15:26drops the hammer,
15:27and proceeds to drag Sung-Jae outside.
15:30He closes the shutters
15:31but Yoon-Hyuk is there
15:33holding them back up to keep him in.
15:35In this courageous act,
15:36Sang-Wook drags both Min-Joo and Soo-Wong inside.
15:39There, the pair are given a proper burial
15:41as the residents join together
15:43and pay their respects.
15:44On the back of this,
15:45Yi-Kyung decides to deal with her demons

15:48As she heads out,
15:49the rest of the residents
15:50contemplate what it means to be human
15:52and whether this curse
15:53is just the next step in evolution.

15:58specifically the moments he was hired
16:00to deal with Sung-Jae.
16:01Although he initially refused,

16:04and an impassioned, grief-stricken father
