00:00Civil society groups and political parties gathered in front of the Legislative Yuan
00:04today to call out new proposals that might change Taiwan's judiciary system.
00:10The proposed legislation calls for a two-thirds majority of the total 15 justices to make
00:15any judicial rulings, instead of the current rule of a simple majority.
00:19But opponents say that this could obstruct the top court, as seven of the justices are
00:23set to leave at the end of this month, and they're worried that it could stop the judiciary
00:27from doing its role in the democratic process during this time.
00:49Supporters say that the legislation could actually make the judicial process more democratic
00:53by requiring more of the justices' voices to be heard in these rulings.
00:58But people here say that they want to see a way with these partisan politics that are
01:02now affecting the way Taiwan's democratic systems are working.
