00:00Hi everyone, so I'm here at a pub in Chorley that readers voted one of the best for steaks
00:08across Lancashire and it has also been rated in the top two for Sunday roast. So naturally
00:15I wanted to come and check it out. So it's called The Spinners in Cowling, if you can
00:21see that, and I've already been greeted by two cows so that was a nice experience. So
00:27if you come with me we'll take a look inside. So as you can see it's only one o'clock so
00:33it's only been open since 12 and it is absolutely bombed to the rafters with one place left
00:41for a little old me. So let me introduce you to Glen. Hello. Hi. How are you doing? Not
00:48too bad. So if I can just get you to introduce yourself for our readers. Yeah, my name's
00:53Glen Hutchinson. I've run The Spinners for 13 years now, since the end of February 2012.
01:01We keep everything traditional, everything's cooked fresh and we prepare every dish from
01:07scratch. So do you source your produce locally? Yeah, everything's sourced from within sort
01:14of 20 miles of here. We use local greengrocers, fishmongers, a local wine merchant called
01:24Tea Rites at Horwich, and everything we do is done fresh. And you're dog friendly, am
01:31I correct in saying that? Yeah, we're dog friendly, they're part of the family so they
01:35should always be made welcome. We always give them a biscuit and a bowl of water when they
01:40get in. So talk me through your Sunday roast. What do you serve up? What can people decide
01:46upon? So we always do three different meats as well as a gluten free roast and a vegetarian
01:53roast. They can have a single meat, a mix of meat or all three, which we call our monster
02:00roast, which comes as a larger portion, which if you're brave enough to enjoy it, you can.
02:06And how much does that set you back? So a monster roast is £16.95, so it comes with
02:12two massive Yorkshire puddings on. So if you think you can challenge it and task it, then
02:17it's there for you to have a go at. There you go guys, if you think you're brave enough,
02:21come down on a Sunday. And so you've been placed in the top two in the North West for
02:25a Sunday roast. What do you think sets you apart from other sort of bars and restaurants
02:30in Chorley, or in Lancashire even? So everything we do, as we said, is done fresh. We make
02:36our own Yorkshire puddings, we make our own mash, we make everything. So presentation,
02:41but we like to keep it simple, do it well, and a nice, relaxed, friendly environment.
02:48You don't have to dress up to come here, you can come and relax and enjoy it. You can feel
02:54that actually when you walk in. And talk me through this little sign here, it says straight
02:59home. So the straight home sign was for one of our very, very close friends and patrons,
03:07Gary. He passed away about 15 months ago now, and his comments at the end of the evening
03:15were straight home, so we had it made in memory of Gary. Aw, such a nice tribute. Guys, so
03:22my Sunday roast has just arrived, and we have a little fudge cauliflower cheese, and I opted
03:28for pork and some ham. Look at the size of this. I think I'll be needing somebody to
03:36carry me out after, or I'll need a nap, so yep, I'm gonna get stuck in. So hands up if
03:43you've room for dessert! My god. So I've opted for the sticky toffee pudding, and you can
03:51have this with custard or ice cream. So I went for ice cream. I literally need to befriend
03:57somebody to share half of this with me, but yeah, guys, there we go, and wish me luck!
04:05So it's the day after I went for my huge Sunday roast on sticky toffee pudding for desserts,
04:11complete with ice cream on top, and neither of which I could finish. So I would definitely
04:16go back for, honestly, just for the roast potatoes. I've been dreaming about them for
04:22the next month. They're hands down the nicest roast potatoes that I've ever had, and I hear
04:26it's because they go into a steam cooker, which retains the heat and the juices and
04:31the flavour. But all in all, the ambience, and just from walking into the friendly service
04:38to sitting down to having chats with other customers that are there, and even though
04:42it was so busy, you weren't waiting long on your food or your drinks, you know, attention
04:47to detail with this place is key, and I think that's probably one of the reasons, one of
04:53many reasons why people keep going back to it, but I definitely want to go back on a
04:58weekday to see what, you know, their steaks are like, which you guys voted as one of the
05:04best in Lancashire. So yeah, guys, if you're ever in Chorley, go and visit The Spinners,
05:10and if you do go for a Sunday roast, and if you manage the monster Sunday roast, my God,
05:18give us a shout and let us know how you get on with some pictures.
