00:00Previously, the Blockheads started tackling the biggest space this season.
00:05Managed chaos.
00:06I've never seen so many trucks, so many guys, so many pieces of machinery and equipment
00:11operating in the one place.
00:13Yep, the landscapers have arrived, and our team's big backyards have some big budgets.
00:19We have $89,000.
00:21$95,000.
00:22$105,000.
00:23And tensions are running high.
00:27You guys were all there.
00:29You can't say nobody else.
00:30I said, what do you guys do?
00:32It was a conversation that I just didn't want to be a part of anymore.
00:35Don't need to deal with wires, my God.
00:38While Maddie was driven to a private cry, House 5's landscaper has very publicly put
00:44a lot of noses out of joint.
00:46It's a block.
00:47We've got to do it.
00:48I just need to get this machine gone.
00:49You've seen there's a few things, some obstacles.
00:50Just the machine.
00:51Don't be obtuse.
00:52It's not all about you.
00:53Dean, I'm doing one.
00:54Block it in.
00:55Block it in.
00:56Gary says to do it.
00:57I understand, but you've got to understand, five houses.
01:03But one house is getting left behind.
01:05They've turned around the delivery for the timber, for the steel, for everything that
01:10we ordered from Minotown.
01:11Because of the congestion in the driveway.
01:13Deliveries affect us at the back of the block at the moment.
01:16Nothing's getting through.
01:17Tonight, Shelley and I pay a visit to the backyards.
01:20Hello.
01:21How are we?
01:22Isn't it nice to be outside?
01:23There's some cash up for grabs.
01:25Whoever gets closest to their depreciation amount wins how much?
01:31$7,895.10.
01:32Wow.
01:33Woo.
01:34And things continue to fall apart for Carly and Brad.
01:35Brad, you've got the wrong mix here, mate.
01:36You need core fill.
01:37Now, that is a disaster.
01:38Morning, all.
02:08Come on around, listen up, be mindful, stay off the new driveways, share space, stay safe,
02:14be nice to each other, enjoy the day.
02:17It's been a tumultuous week so far for Maddie and Charlotte, but as they approach the midpoint
02:22of landscaping their 448 square metre backyard, they are starting to pick up the pieces.
02:28Charlotte, where's the backyard at?
02:29Maybe we sweep it first.
02:32Yeah.
02:34We had a slab poured yesterday.
02:37We, um, hope...
02:39Oh!
02:40Sorry.
02:43We're obviously, hopefully, um, making our barbecue today.
02:47A barbecue kitchen.
02:48While the girls hope to get their barbecue cooking, over at House 3, how are things looking
02:53for Rikki and Hayden, who have been tasked with landscaping the second largest backyard
02:58at 488 square metres?
03:01A little bit daunting, but nothing the boys can't handle.
03:04How you going?
03:05Good.
03:06Tell us about your landscaping team.
03:08Who are they and how did you get onto them?
03:10RNH Landscaping.
03:11They're my officers and we're going to give them a chance.
03:14I heard they're guns at life, though.
03:16There's still no fence up.
03:18Oh, there won't be a fence up for two days.
03:20No, don't say that.
03:21No, seriously.
03:22On the modular wall between Brad and Kylie's house and our house, we've got graphic going
03:27and going up, but the wall's not up yet, so we've got a plan for the Curcio brothers
03:32to tile to cement sheet and do it in pieces.
03:37We tile a section.
03:38That's it.
03:39There and there.
03:40That's it.
03:41And then we'll just put something through.
03:43While Rikki and Hayden are taking charge of their own landscaping duties, things couldn't
03:47be more different for House 5, who are tackling this week's biggest backyard, a 552 square
03:53metre behemoth.
03:55Good morning.
03:56Hi, Christian.
03:57Good morning.
03:58In terms of being in charge, Troy is definitely 100% in charge.
04:02He's almost taken the contested position from me and Mimi this week.
04:09I just need to dig a trench and dig six holes.
04:14That's all I need to do with the excavator today.
04:16Everything else I can do by hand.
04:18Unfortunately, man, I'm tied up down here.
04:20I've got to get this done for them.
04:22No, I understand.
04:23You're miles in front of the rest of them.
04:25If you need it done a bit sooner, man, you've got to get it past management.
04:28No, I'm not going to.
04:29No, no, no.
04:30I'm not going to worry about that.
04:31All good.
04:32Troy likes to push things to the very limit.
04:36And I like that.
04:38We're going to have to probably have to dig this trench by hand through here to a leaf
04:42behind those rocks so we can at least then get all this steel in and we can start getting
04:46these garden beds in.
04:48You don't need to drill holes here, though.
04:50Yeah, I know.
04:51But the problem is I don't know if they're going to come back here with the machine.
04:55While Troy rages against the lack of machines, over at House 2, Grant is going through the
05:00correct channels to get the helping hands he needs to get the job done on his 403 square
05:06metre backyard.
05:08Not to start your day any earlier, we left the pizza oven in the back of that van because
05:12it was too late to get it out last night.
05:14We grabbed the manor to lift it off.
05:17Is that all right?
05:18It's 300 kilos.
05:19We're going to have to because we need to get that van out.
05:22So you could be there, didn't you?
05:24No, no, all good.
05:25We'll come down in a minute.
05:26I'll just get the manor to out in a minute and I'll come and pick it up.
05:28By today, we've had most of our hardscapes achieved.
05:32We've got a bit of decking to go down still, but all in all, we're in a good position.
05:37So what are your plans for today?
05:39I need to, I've got like 40,000 downlights in my garage that I haven't used that I need
05:45to then get money to spend for the front yard because I'm broke.
05:49Speaking of broke, all the way down the other end of a congested block site, Brad is in
05:54a fragile state.
05:56In line with the patio would be good.
05:58Or wherever you can, wherever you can fit it, mate.
06:03It's landscaping on Thursday.
06:06I don't really know how things are tracking.
06:09It's not my forte.
06:11I've sort of left the landscaping up to Brad.
06:15Brad seems stressed.
06:17I need that van gone.
06:19But when they move the pizza oven, it'll move.
06:21Please is also nice.
06:23Now.
06:24Despite having the smallest backyard to landscape at 378 square metres, Brad is beginning to
06:29get overwhelmed by the task at hand.
06:32What have you got coming today?
06:34We've got soil, steppers, concrete, form ply.
06:37What else is there?
06:38I don't know, there's a couple other things.
06:40Yeah.
06:41You just need everything to run smoothly so you can get your stuff done.
06:44Yeah.
06:45Yeah, we've been treading water and we're really far behind.
06:49While Brad hopes for a caffeine-fuelled comeback, I've got walk-arounds today with Shell.
06:56She should be here any tick of the clock.
07:00Oh, here we go.
07:01What?
07:03Woo-hoo!
07:04Woo-hoo!
07:05Woo-hoo!
07:06Woo-hoo!
07:14There she is.
07:15She's got the Ardent Strainer on.
07:17Stop laughing.
07:18Look out, Frankie.
07:19Don't you laugh at me.
07:21Yeah.
07:22Tell you what.
07:23Shell!
07:24Hello.
07:25Hey, Frankie.
07:26You're like driving a prime mover.
07:27Not that bad.
07:28You must be very stressed.
07:30No, it handles beautifully.
07:32But I've got precious cargo on board.
07:34Of course, the Tradie Treat Trailer.
07:35Hey, listen, we haven't got time to unload this because we've got lots to do.
07:39It's backyard week.
07:40Hey, Dunk.
07:41Mates, how are you, brother?
07:43G'day, Scotty.
07:44G'day.
07:45Can you hand out the Tim Tams and the Bickies from the Tradie Treat Trailer?
07:48Oh, I'd love to.
07:49Well, why wouldn't I?
07:50Yes, okay.
07:51I'll leave you in charge of that.
07:52We've got to go.
07:53My job here is done.
07:54I can't promise there'll be any Bickies left.
07:55No, that's right.
07:56Give them out, mate.
07:57Give them to everyone.
07:58Okay.
08:00Oh, here we go.
08:03You look like a chicken, Primpy.
08:05Scotch finger.
08:06What about the Tim Tams?
08:08Well, everyone loves the Tim Tams.
08:10Hey, there you go, guys.
08:12Hey!
08:13Hello.
08:14Hi.
08:15What are you doing in there?
08:16We're cleaning.
08:17Oh, hallelujah!
08:19Yeah.
08:20We're cleaning.
08:21After your rousing last week, it's getting done.
08:23It is.
08:24Well, it needs to be done because next week we're going to have to have that room empty.
08:28You're going to have to have the entire house finished, cleaned, walk away, throw the keys,
08:33see you at auction.
08:34That's how it works next week.
08:35Exactly.
08:36So we're on to it now.
08:37How are you feeling about how it's going back here?
08:39We're coming along.
08:41We've had a few setbacks, a few people working on top of each other.
08:45So, girls, can you just run me through the backyard without us going there because it's
08:49way too big for us to get to all of it.
08:51Starting at that end, we have basketball.
08:54Yeah, we have a dream court.
08:55A dream court?
08:56Yep, we have a dream court.
08:57A spiral staircase.
08:59Plungy.
09:00A plungy.
09:01A north-facing deck.
09:02Yes, we have our big deck with a barbecue, dining table, sitting area, fire pit, and
09:08a pizza oven.
09:11It's huge.
09:12It's huge.
09:13Yeah, it is pretty big.
09:15Who's your landscaping team?
09:16Rycor.
09:17Rycor, so Corey and Ryan from Rycor.
09:19They did Eliza and Liberty's last year.
09:21Right, okay, great.
09:22So they know what they're up to.
09:23Yep.
09:24Yes, they know what they're up against.
09:25That's true.
09:26That's true.
09:27Apparently, last year, they only had two of them, so they've brought a slightly bigger
09:29team this time.
09:30Right, and you've given them a good budget?
09:32Well, yes, and they're probably spending it all here.
09:34Yeah, your budget's a little bit off.
09:37Yeah, it's not looking good, is it?
09:39$75,000, like, budgeted for landscaping front and back, and I knew that backyard would take
09:46majority of that.
09:48We might be able to throw a little bit into the mix, can't we?
09:51There's old Bradley Beer coming around.
09:53Yes, we've got an offering of some cash.
09:57Do you know what your depreciation schedule is?
09:59Do you know what that is?
10:00It's every nail, screw, bolt, sheet, door, fruit bowl, artwork, all on a schedule, so
10:10the new buyer can have a look at that and go, oh, that's such and such, off my tax every
10:16year.
10:17That's pretty amazing, isn't it?
10:18If I decide to rent this house.
10:19So tomorrow, Brad Beer, who's a mate of ours from BMT.
10:23These properties have in the vicinity of $5 million spent each, and most of those are
10:30deductible, and over the life or 40 years of a lot of these things, most of that $5 odd
10:37million that's spent will get claimed as depreciation deductions.
10:41Pretty good.
10:43He's coming here, and he will work out exactly.
10:46Down to the dollar.
10:47Down to the dollar.
10:48Down to the cent.
10:49Down to the cent.
10:50What has been spent on this house, and the other house, and the other house, and then
10:54you guys are going to do the same, and whoever gets closest to their depreciation amount
11:03wins how much?
11:04Oh, $7,895.10.
11:08Wow.
11:09Very precise.
11:10Which would be very handy.
11:11That would be very handy.
11:12That would mean we'd probably be able to finish front yard week, but unless we win that,
11:16we will be laying some grass ourselves.
11:18I reckon you guys could be really, really good at this.
11:21I think this might be where your strength is.
11:23It came down to dollars and cents last year.
11:25We've done this quite a few times.
11:27How much time do we have to figure this out?
11:29Oh, about 24 hours.
11:30Oh, okay, 24 hours.
11:31Tomorrow.
11:32That could be.
11:33That could be fun.
11:35I feel like pulling a number out of...
11:37Tonight, we're going to get this Excel spreadsheet out.
11:39Yes, go back through every single invoice.
11:42I mean, you've got plenty of time on your hands.
11:44Yeah, like a day.
11:45Yeah.
11:46Amongst everything else.
11:47It's not like we're doing anything else anyway.
11:48Get to it.
11:49Enough time spent.
11:50There you go.
11:52Bye.
11:53Bye.
11:54Yikes.
11:55We really need that money because it was like $7,951.10 or something.
11:59Close.
12:00$7,895.10.
12:01Oh, dang it.
12:02Oh, well, close enough.
12:04That number.
12:05And, yeah, we were like, we desperately need that money.
12:09Like, that could be the difference of us finishing our front yard.
12:15I just need you to tell me where this gate is.
12:31Shelley and I are making our way around the backyards.
12:33Next stop, house two.
12:35Stepping out onto their undercover dining and barbecue area,
12:39their backyard will consist of a pizza oven off to the left,
12:42which then leads down to their fire pit.
12:44At the opposite end of the yard, they'll have their pool,
12:47sun deck, and secondary seating area.
12:50And we're meeting up here with Grant right here next to the fireplace.
12:54There's so many elements to these backyards, isn't there?
12:57It's a bit overwhelming.
12:59It was at the start, yeah.
13:01So much to spend in a big space.
13:03But, no, we think what Courtney and I wanted to do was create sort of
13:07rooms and sections where people can break out within the backyard.
13:10It's the same sort of idea as the house.
13:12There's a lot to spend and you're worried about your budget, aren't you?
13:14Very, very worried.
13:15Yes, you should be.
13:16I think we've actually been talking about landscape budget for, oh,
13:19a good ten weeks now.
13:20I reckon 20 years, Shelley.
13:22Yeah, yeah, probably.
13:24Every year, if you watch the show, you know, don't you?
13:26You do.
13:27There's no money for landscape.
13:28No.
13:29How much did you reckon you had?
13:30So we had about $80,000 with our win at the end of last week,
13:36after our win on Sunday.
13:37That was with the Freedom money.
13:40We'll probably put about $50,000 into the backyard.
13:43Yeah.
13:44And we'll need $5,000 at least for the garage,
13:47just to get that sheeted and do what we want to do in there.
13:50Yeah.
13:51And then probably have $25,000 for the front yard.
13:53So what's going in through this section?
13:55So, yeah, we've got basically behind this area,
13:57we've got the secluded master bedroom.
13:59That's the travertine.
14:00Travertine, beautiful.
14:01Yeah, all that.
14:02We've got the deck.
14:03We wanted a dedicated turf area for the kids.
14:06So this will be the turf area.
14:07It sort of flows in front of the deck there.
14:09Yes.
14:10We wanted to frame this side of the yard.
14:11So I've got the cypress pine arbors in 115 by 115.
14:15So they'll come, four of them will come through here.
14:17They'll lead you through to get to the pool.
14:19Yeah.
14:20We've got 300.
14:21There's all that work to do there with the cypress pine coming in as well.
14:23Yep, yep.
14:24And then you've got to put all this deck down.
14:25Got to put this deck down.
14:26There's 360 lineal metres here.
14:28Yes.
14:29That we need to put down.
14:30Ooh.
14:31Plants will run through here.
14:32Yes.
14:33And then we will have our outdoor kitchen running along there.
14:37Right.
14:38So that's all built in.
14:39All Barbie and sink and fridge.
14:40Yep.
14:41Matching cabinetry to the kitchen.
14:42Sink's there.
14:43Yep.
14:44We've got our pizza oven going on the back of here.
14:46Oh my goodness me.
14:47Yeah.
14:48Can I just say that the craftsmanship of that sink is absolutely incredible.
14:53You're good on all your hard surfaces.
14:55Yes.
14:56But is your bride taking care of furnishings and is that where she is now?
15:00Yes.
15:01She's over at Freedom, spending all the Freedom dollars they gave us last week.
15:04Yes.
15:05So yeah, we've got a fair bit of furniture coming.
15:07Oh, you've got the outdoor furniture coming, all that sort of.
15:09And she's picking all that up now.
15:10She's picking all that up.
15:11And then she's going to come back and start digging holes.
15:12She'll start screwing deck, digging holes, painting fences, mate.
15:15It'll be...
15:16Of course she will.
15:17Yeah, of course.
15:18The wind last week must have been wonderful.
15:19A bit of a getaway.
15:20It was.
15:21A chance to break free.
15:22What a dinner.
15:23It was an incredible dinner.
15:24Nice to have a penguin under your wing too, basically, isn't it?
15:25Yeah.
15:26Lucky.
15:27Happy days.
15:28If you get this finished, you'll be coming for tea with me again, I reckon.
15:30There you go.
15:31I really hope so.
15:33Scotty says he's always...
15:34I don't know whether he's just saying it,
15:35but he says he's always a fan of what we produce,
15:37and it could be absolutely pulling my leg.
15:40I know it could be terrible, but he says it every week.
15:43He doesn't seem like the man that lies.
15:45No.
15:46It's time to stop believing in you.
15:50Ricky and Hayden's large wraparound lawn is the hero of their backyard
15:53and will provide ample space for kids to play all sports,
15:57as well as leaving room for their large swing set.
16:00At the far end, they'll have their large plunge pool and deck area.
16:04It's a big project, so it's high time Shelley and I
16:07met the ambitious landscaping team behind this backyard.
16:12Hello, boys.
16:13Hey, how you going?
16:14Oh, good day, mate.
16:15Ricky and Hayden from R&H Landscaping.
16:17Great to have you on the block, first time around.
16:19Nice to see you.
16:20Terrific.
16:21So what have you got planned for the boys' backyard?
16:23Look, we've got big plans.
16:25They gave you a healthy budget, obviously.
16:27They did, they did.
16:28I've heard, boys, be careful.
16:30I've heard they're bad players.
16:32No, they're ripping blokes, actually.
16:34Really handsome and really intelligent.
16:36Yeah, they are.
16:38We've got big plans for them.
16:39We've got nice decking space around the pool.
16:42What we're doing is, because this is going to be a family holiday home,
16:45we're thinking grass is king.
16:47So the most amount of square metres of turf that we can put down
16:50for kids to be playing on, backyard cricket, kicking soccer balls,
16:54we reckon that's going to be the key.
16:56So it's all of that there grass.
16:58We've got 200 square metres of turf that we're laying.
17:00God, it just keeps going.
17:02Doesn't it, doesn't it?
17:03That's why you have 200 squares of turf.
17:05But that's amazing.
17:06Look at all that beautiful sun coming in this side.
17:08Yeah.
17:09That's awesome.
17:10Boys, there's always money on offer, as you know.
17:11Yes.
17:12Tomorrow, Brad Beer from BMT is coming.
17:14He is our depreciation schedule expert.
17:17Do you know what that is?
17:18Absolutely no idea.
17:19Basically...
17:21Okay.
17:22So you've just got to get as close to Brad's figure than anyone else.
17:27Okay.
17:28Can we have Brad's phone number?
17:29No.
17:30Okay.
17:31There you go.
17:32All right, fellas, we've got a few other houses to see.
17:34Enjoy.
17:35Have a good day.
17:36Thanks so much.
17:37Hey, boys, good luck with your DIY minor, 10 do it right,
17:40the first-time job.
17:41There's money involved.
17:42Let us know when you want to come down for a swing, mate.
17:44How do you do?
17:46This year, each team gets $5,000 to spend on a DIY project at Minor 10,
17:51and if they do it right the first time,
17:53they take home another $5,000 cash.
17:57Get some 200 by 200 spotted gum sleepers and do a custom swing set,
18:01which will not only look really cool,
18:03but it'll add that sense of fun for the fun factory in the backyard.
18:07I'm really excited because it's going to be big and it's going to be fun.
18:10You're going to need some rather big bolts to go through.
18:13Big bolts.
18:14Cool.
18:15So we've got a couple of posts atop so that we can actually make it sturdy
18:18and sturdy with these bolts.
18:19Beautiful.
18:20We're going to need some decent chain as well.
18:22We'll get you set up with a seat.
18:23Yep.
18:24And then it's a matter of just putting the whole thing together.
18:26Let us know when you want to come down for a swing, mate.
18:28You know, when you're swinging, you've got to do it right the first time.
18:31Money's in there!
18:32LAUGHTER
18:40Which contestants do you think are creating a winning story
18:43or creating a winning space this week?
18:45To cast your vote, all you have to do is head to the Block website now.
18:49And while you're there,
18:50don't forget to check out all of our amazing Block galleries.
19:04Back at the Block,
19:05I'm with Shelley checking out the progress in the backyard.
19:08Next up is House 4.
19:11Shirley and Brad have the smallest backyard space to work with
19:14at 378 square metres.
19:17The hero of their backyard is their plungy pool
19:20with stone lookalike tiles, timber boardwalk and large stone pavers.
19:25Behind this will be a fire pit aerial with a curved stone bench seat
19:30as well as a narrow yard leading around to the side of the property
19:34where they'll have a private entrance to the communal tennis court.
19:38Hello.
19:39Isn't it nice to be outside?
19:41Yeah, it is.
19:42A day like today.
19:43As you said, Shelley, it's warm, isn't it?
19:45It's beautiful. It's stinking hot.
19:47Get some water in there so we can have a swim.
19:48Yeah, that's it.
19:49No fence yet, mate. No swimming.
19:50No? OK.
19:51Thank you, Dad.
19:52Yes.
19:53So this is an interesting tile here.
19:55It's camouflaged, sort of black camouflage.
19:58Sure.
19:59I don't know.
20:00I'm surprised you saw the pool if it's camouflaged.
20:02I'm saying it's going to be nice and warm in there.
20:05It will be.
20:06It's not going to be a black pool.
20:07It's going to be like a spa bath.
20:09No, it'll be beautiful and warm.
20:10I think a black pool down here is a great idea.
20:12Yeah.
20:13Personally.
20:14Are you planting out around?
20:15Yeah, so we're planting out around the side.
20:17Obviously, you're pretty close to the fence,
20:19so there's not going to be too much.
20:20Yeah.
20:21I do love this idea, coming straight off your outdoor living
20:24onto your deck to your pool.
20:25I think that's a really nice layout too.
20:27And then you've got it raised up the back there.
20:29Yeah, so we've got a bit of a landing for some day beds in there.
20:32Chairs.
20:33Right.
20:34Nice.
20:35We've got a bit of a fire pit area out the back there.
20:38Now, you've got your private entrance
20:40to the tennis court shell approved.
20:42Oh, it came through.
20:43Great.
20:44Yes.
20:45Pass body court with flying colours.
20:46Does anyone have anything they want to vote on?
20:49Is anyone opposed to us putting a gate into the tennis court?
20:53I have no problem with it.
20:55Anyone else?
20:57Bill.
20:58Awesome, guys.
20:59Excellent.
21:00And, you know, when you first arrived here,
21:01you didn't like the fact that you were next to the tennis court.
21:03No.
21:04You've got a private entrance through a door, pathway,
21:07straight into the court.
21:08Yeah.
21:09Not bad.
21:10Tennis-loving family who loves black.
21:14It's a very niche market, isn't it?
21:16It's getting smaller.
21:17You love tennis, you love black.
21:20Are you aiming at someone who likes black who doesn't play tennis?
21:22No.
21:24You don't have to love black to like this house.
21:26My whole house isn't black.
21:28There's just little bits.
21:30How the body corporate's going to run the booking of the court.
21:32I was thinking that.
21:33Yeah, if you just look out the gate and you go,
21:34no one's on it, you guys are straight out there.
21:36So you've got majority usage, really.
21:38Maybe we'll just lock it all up and ours will be the only one.
21:40No, you won't.
21:41Yeah, true that.
21:42You're leaving in two weeks.
21:44Not wrong.
21:45Two weeks.
21:47A lot to do in two weeks.
21:48Isn't there just?
21:49Yeah.
21:50There is so much left to do and just even the tidy up
21:53and the cleaning and those extra painting
21:55and all the little defects, that's all got to be done as well,
21:57isn't it?
21:58Yeah, look, 100%, but I guess we can't take our eye off
22:00what we're meant to be doing this week either.
22:02So you wouldn't want to sacrifice this for something inside
22:05that's already been judged either.
22:07So that is in our mind, but I think front yard week's
22:09going to be a bit more of a week to navigate that.
22:12That's for sure.
22:13Yeah, sure.
22:14Well, good luck.
22:15There's lots to do.
22:16Lots to do.
22:17And lots of planting.
22:18Yeah, but in this beautiful sunshine.
22:20Make hay while the sun shines, my friends.
22:22We're off to the next house.
22:23See you later.
22:24See you later.
22:25See you, see you.
22:26Bye, Shelly.
22:29How are you guys feeling generally?
22:32Generally, I'm pretty stressed out.
22:38Before Shelly and I make our way over to house five,
22:41we're catching up with the block's architect, Julian Brenchley,
22:44to discuss some of the products we've been using this season.
22:47Well, this is a James Hardy linear board.
22:50Right.
22:51And it's gone up so fast.
22:53It has.
22:54And, Julian, it doesn't rot, doesn't warp, doesn't twist.
22:57It's all straight.
22:58So you love it.
22:59I love it.
23:00True, doesn't rot.
23:01It's going to last 100 years.
23:03Once the painting's on the pre-primed boards,
23:05you don't have to touch it.
23:07Well, that's what I love about it.
23:08Pre-primed.
23:09So half your job's done.
23:10Look, it's a gift.
23:11You don't have to come to your holiday house and go,
23:13oh, God, I've got to paint it again.
23:15I'm going to spend the whole Christmas holiday.
23:17No, no, this is done.
23:18This is like a set and forget kind of concept, right?
23:20Fantastic.
23:21So, look, we've really kicked it out of the park.
23:23Good on you, James Hardy.
23:24Yeah, thanks, James.
23:25Good on you.
23:26But it's been an amazing ride.
23:27That was our out, mate, for sure.
23:29Okay, right on out.
23:40Great.
23:41Oh.
23:42What's going on?
23:44What are the rules around digging holes, mate?
23:46You've got to mark everything out
23:48and get approval before you start digging.
23:51Troy's gone and got an auger in there,
23:54and now he's just drilling.
23:56Yeah, there has to be processes.
23:58Otherwise, you know, there's live power,
24:00there's live sewer through these joints,
24:02the water, everything.
24:03If we start hitting that, we're in trouble.
24:05We can shut the whole site down.
24:07Like, it's not the Troy Lovett Show, is it?
24:10But it seems like it is.
24:11Everything's about Troy at the moment.
24:22Hey, Simmo, drama in House 5?
24:26There's always drama in House 5 this week.
24:28Why?
24:29There's a common factor?
24:30Yeah.
24:31Troy Lovett.
24:34What's he breaking rules now?
24:35He's just running his own show in there,
24:37not asking questions.
24:38I heard that you had a bit of a shouting match with him.
24:40He's fighting back, is he?
24:41I've had a few shouting matches with him this week.
24:44Mate, well, are we penalising him?
24:47I think I need to penalise him.
24:48Yeah, we should.
24:49Yeah, I think...
24:50I don't trust him, so at 6 o'clock,
24:51when tools are down...
24:52He's out.
24:53He's out.
24:54All right, I'm going to go and check with him now, mate.
24:55Thank you, mate.
24:56Good on you, brother.
24:57Calm down, Simmo.
24:58Bloody hell.
25:12It's backyard week, and with only three days to reveal,
25:15the block site is as busy as it's going to get,
25:18with loads of deliveries and trades everywhere.
25:21Now, that doesn't mean Christian,
25:23and in particular his landscaper Troy,
25:25are free to do what they want.
25:27Nato and Ashton are going to be grouting.
25:31And Simmo isn't loving it.
25:34I'm sick of the Troy Lovett Show, mate.
25:36The rules around digging holes,
25:37are you meant to get them approved before you start digging?
25:39Sure, we can dig trenches for footings and...
25:41like that, sure, no problem.
25:43The arborist has already told him off for drilling up there.
25:46I'm sure it is the block,
25:47but it feels like the Troy Lovett Show at the moment.
25:54Christian.
25:56Scotty, Shelly.
25:57Hi, Christian, how are you?
25:59Hi, Scotty.
26:00What are you causing trouble for, Troy?
26:02Scotty and Shelly came around to see our backyard,
26:07and the first thing Scotty did was sort of have a little go at Troy.
26:12I've already spoken to Simmo, and just do what you're here to do.
26:15No problem.
26:17No worries.
26:19Christian, how are you going?
26:21Hey, Scotty.
26:22Hey, Shelly, how are we?
26:23Where's Mimi?
26:24Mimi's out shopping again.
26:27Get her here digging some holes, mate.
26:29Yeah, I know.
26:30She'll be on the tour tomorrow.
26:31Mimi and Christian are dealing with the biggest backyard space.
26:34Their design includes a pool and surrounding timber deck
26:38next to an outside barbecue area,
26:40complete with a drink spa in the shape of a boat.
26:43Then as we head around to the other side of the house,
26:46there will be a half-size basketball court
26:48next to a fire pit and seating area.
26:51What did your landscape budget end up being?
26:53The landscape budget ended up being $80,000 cash
26:56with the $15,000 as well from High Pages.
26:59So the High Pages is for front yard week.
27:01That's why we're throwing a little bit more money
27:03into the backyard this week.
27:05We're sort of going for the win as well
27:07to try and, you know, boost up the funds
27:09because, I mean, if we can achieve everything
27:11that we've got planned for this week, it'll be awesome,
27:13and I think we'll be in for a good shot.
27:15Kate, you've employed Troy.
27:18Keep the reins in.
27:19Yes.
27:20Yeah, this is up to you.
27:21Yeah, 100%.
27:22So you're at fault here as well.
27:23Yeah.
27:24This is your house.
27:25You're the one taking it to auction.
27:26You're in charge, OK?
27:27Yeah.
27:28They might not know what they're doing,
27:29but you're in charge.
27:30OK.
27:31OK?
27:32So based on that, this site is shutting at 6 o'clock tonight.
27:356 o'clock?
27:366 o'clock tonight.
27:37Everybody else is going to keep working.
27:39This site shuts at 6.
27:41You can stay.
27:42Why is that?
27:43But no one else.
27:44Surely you know why you're getting shut at 6.
27:46There's just stuff going on here, unsupervised,
27:49that we can't accept.
27:50Yeah, I think...
27:51So therefore, if we leave, then who knows what happens then.
27:54So that's why.
27:56OK, I understand that, but the thing with the drilling the hole
27:59that Simo got upset about,
28:00they already knew where the services were
28:02before they drilled the hole.
28:04You've always got to check before you dig.
28:06That is an Australian concept.
28:08We're not arguing about this.
28:096 o'clock.
28:10OK.
28:11Let's go.
28:15MUSIC PLAYS
28:20Scotty just said that we're shut down at 6 o'clock.
28:23No work after 6 today.
28:25Everybody?
28:26No, just us.
28:27I tried arguing with Scotty.
28:28He goes, no, I don't want to hear it.
28:30I've got no idea.
28:32I've got no idea.
28:33Is that going to be a big setback?
28:35No, it doesn't matter.
28:36It doesn't matter.
28:37It is what it is.
28:38It is what it is.
28:39We're just...
28:41I'm flat.
28:42Flat, you know?
28:43Like, I'm a glass-half-full person, and I still am.
28:46I still think 99% of the things that I've done
28:48all throughout this week has been right.
28:50So everyone's flat, me included.
28:52So we still need to push hard.
28:54So I've just got all the boys together, had a bit of a chat.
28:57We're not only going to leave two hours early,
28:59we're going to try and leave three or four hours early.
29:02We're just going to get this out,
29:04get back to our house, have a shower,
29:06go take the guys out for dinner,
29:09and start again tomorrow.
29:10So even though it's two hours, let's make it four hours.
29:13Being right outside the 9 and 6 office,
29:15you literally cannot get away with anything.
29:18Anything that they see that...
29:20What do you want to get away with, Christian?
29:22Yeah, literally.
29:23I was just going to ask the same thing.
29:25No, well, I mean, Troy...
29:27I don't know.
29:28I feel like he gets picked on a little bit.
29:34I just get my bag.
29:36So while it's an early mark for Troy,
29:38it's no such luck for Christian and the other contestants.
29:42As well as the massive landscaping work to be done,
29:45they should also be crunching the numbers
29:48to figure out the depreciation value
29:50of their properties for tomorrow's challenge.
29:53But it seems some people are taking the battle of the block wits
29:57a little more seriously than others.
30:01I don't know how many Jibrok screws are in this room.
30:05And the V-Luxes, how much are they worth?
30:09I don't know.
30:10So, yeah, I'm going to have to do some...
30:13It's going to take some work, actually.
30:15I'm going to, when I drive to Melbourne,
30:17to do some returns to get some more money back,
30:19I'm going to ring all the suppliers that I know.
30:21I'm going to figure out, like, exactly how much money I've spent.
30:25Essentially, like, just try and figure it out,
30:28and I f***ing need the money, so I'm like, let me figure out.
30:32So I'm like, I'm on a mission.
30:34How are you going to do tomorrow's depreciation estimation challenge?
30:38I'm just going to throw a figure out there for the challenge.
30:41Like, you know, the screws are going to be, like,
30:44part of the depreciation schedule.
30:45And I'm like, holy s***,
30:46I don't know how many Jibrok screws are in my wall.
30:49I appreciate all the depreciation.
30:51Simple mathematics, simple science.
30:55It would be about $54,000.
30:58OK, amazing. Holy s***.
31:00Oh, thank you.
31:01Do we miss anything?
31:04Some sort of expert
31:05when it comes to calculating depreciation schedules.
31:08And I'm like, how the f*** are you going to,
31:10like, how do they know exactly, you know what I mean?
31:12I think I'm just going to take a wild guess.
31:14I mean, it's over $50,000 to $60,000, to be honest.
31:17Holy s***.
31:19OK, stop the tape.
31:22Over the six weeks that Maddie's been on the block,
31:25I've never heard her swear once.
31:27Surely this isn't the challenge to break her.
31:31And I flippin' need the money.
31:34And I'm like, holy moly,
31:35I don't know how many Jibrok screws are in my wall.
31:38OK, amazing. Holy moly.
31:41And I'm like, how the heck are you going to,
31:43like, how do they know exactly...
31:48Holy moly.
31:49Phew. That's a relief.
32:06It's a busy morning on the block,
32:08with backyard deliveries arriving thick and fast.
32:10Hold more.
32:11There's only one thing that would get our contestants
32:14to put their tools down.
32:16Cash. Hard-earned cash.
32:18Morning.
32:19I know you're busy, I know you're busy,
32:21but there's some cash on the line.
32:23Come on in.
32:24Hey, Scotty.
32:25I know you've been doing some very heavy arithmetic overnight,
32:29and very difficult arithmetic,
32:31cos you want to get your hands on some of the prize money
32:34right here from my mate Brad from BMT.
32:37$7,895.
32:40And where's the ten cents, Brad?
32:42You promised me ten cents.
32:44Oh, sorry.
32:45Good boy. He's got it.
32:46Ten cents right there.
32:49$7,895.10.
32:52Would be very handy.
32:54Yeah, we need this win bad, cos...
32:56We need it.
32:57..the cash is dwindling away.
32:59Earlier this morning, Brad Beer from BMT
33:02inspected all five houses
33:04and calculated their depreciation schedule,
33:07which is valuable information for potential investors.
33:10Brad, what do we reckon, mate?
33:12I reckon that hopefully there's a bit of science
33:14and we'll come up with some numbers
33:16and you get those construction costs worked out.
33:18OK, let's see where you landed.
33:21House one, you've got the pen over here.
33:23You write up your number there that you came with.
33:25Come on out, one of you.
33:26Right now?
33:27Yeah.
33:28I think I accidentally made a boo-boo.
33:30That's all right. You just write your boo-boo up.
33:32It's a bit much.
33:34Oh, you'd be surprised.
33:36You should have done it backwards.
33:38Yeah.
33:39Oh, no.
33:40$5,329,591.10.
33:47It was way too big.
33:49Yeah, whoops.
33:51House two.
33:52Go for it, Courtney.
33:54$2,553,772.25.
33:59I added on the 25 cents cos I thought it just sounded good.
34:02Yeah.
34:03House three, let's see.
34:05House three, let's see it.
34:07That is $4,195,800.22.
34:12Sold. Beauty.
34:15Four, let's go.
34:17OK.
34:19$4,268,462 and no cents.
34:25I decided it was like picking the jelly beans in a jelly bean jar.
34:31Could be a downfall with no cents.
34:33No.
34:35Amy.
34:36Much exact.
34:40Oh, I love that.
34:42That heart's not going to help you.
34:44$3,620,266.36 plus a heart.
34:49OK.
34:51Now, Brad from BMT is going to put up his professional figures.
34:56Whoever's the closest wins $7,895.10.
35:01$7,895.10.
35:04I originally thought Donnie Walls came up with the number.
35:09House one, what have we got right here?
35:11We're doing it to the screws, counting how many screws are in our house.
35:14Ooh.
35:16Hey, we won't even bother reading that.
35:18You're two million off.
35:20If anyone wants to hire me, I could be your accountant.
35:23This is very close as well.
35:25It's between one and three.
35:27Four as well.
35:28We were so confident.
35:29To remind ourselves that we're actually terrible at every single challenge.
35:32Yeah.
35:33OK, ladies and gentlemen, that one's way off.
35:36House three is about $850.
35:38That one's way off.
35:40So the winner's house four.
35:42Woo!
35:44Woo!
35:46Hooray!
35:47Hooray!
35:48Hooray!
35:49Hooray!
35:50Hooray!
35:51Hooray!
35:53We did it.
35:55How'd you do it?
35:56Jelly beans.
35:57Guess the jelly beans.
36:00I don't think Kylie and Brad spent a lot of time,
36:02which was probably really smart.
36:04Why we didn't do that, I don't know.
36:07Kylie and Brad, well done.
36:08Now, Brad, like the amount of money that's gone into these houses
36:11is quite incredible, isn't it?
36:13And talk about what that means for an investor.
36:16So when you look at that investment,
36:18what you actually pay to buy one of those
36:21versus the amount of depreciation,
36:23that ratio will be definitely the highest out of everything we've done.
36:25Fantastic.
36:26Everybody, big round of applause for Brad's PT.
36:30We probably put the least work in.
36:33The easiest choice was one.
36:36But while Kylie is all smiles for now,
36:39it doesn't take long for it to disappear.
36:42They definitely used the wrong sand.
36:45Look, someone's left this. It's already leeching.
36:49Who put the board up there?
36:51It's run along here.
36:52It's leeching.
36:53Yeah.
36:55Oh, f***.
36:57This whole wall's just causing a bit of drama today.
37:00We're waiting on core fill.
37:02That's got to dry so we can put the spigots on
37:04to get the glass fence on.
37:06Now we've got leeching on the front of it.
37:08We're going to have to acid wash it, so...
37:12Brad's not loving this block wall right now.
37:15We're running out of days in the week,
37:17especially with the drama that we've been getting with deliveries.
37:20And things are about to get even worse.
37:23Things need to be wetter than that, mate.
37:25What mix is this?
37:28Nah.
37:29Why?
37:30Wrong mix.
37:31Why is it not a 7mm mix?
37:34It's not a 7mm mix.
37:35Brad, you've got the wrong mix here, mate.
37:37It's not a 7mm mix.
37:38You need core fill.
37:39Yeah, block fill.
37:40Core fill.
37:41That's not core fill.
37:43This is someone else's.
37:45No, this is Brad House's.
37:47We've ordered the wrong stuff.
37:50Core fill mix can't have 20mm stone.
37:53It's got to be 7mm stone, and it's got to be a bit wetter,
37:56just so it can run all through the block work,
37:59go down, and then there's no air pockets.
38:01This could create air pockets in there.
38:03That's why we need the right mix.
38:06Now, that is a disaster.
38:11It's not ideal.
38:12It should have been poured yesterday.
38:20MUSIC PLAYS
38:25It's Friday afternoon of Backyard Landscaping Week,
38:27and the block is chockers.
38:31Yeah, I'm tired.
38:33Very tired, but it still looks amazing out there,
38:35and we're going to get there.
38:40Jesus Christ.
38:41I don't even know where Mimi wants this.
38:45While Christian tries to offload Mimi's delivery...
38:48Ready?
38:53Oh, my God.
38:54..over at House 2,
38:55Grant is drilling down into what he needs to get done
38:58to finish their backyard in time.
39:00Basically, we want to be in a position
39:02where we're just planting plants tomorrow
39:04and laying turf, and that's it,
39:06and maybe staining the deck if we've got time.
39:08That's about it.
39:09Good position to be in.
39:10I like it. I like it.
39:12Furniture's still to go in tomorrow.
39:14So it'll be good. It'll be good.
39:16Also looking good are House 1,
39:18who are in the middle of lowering their stairway from the heavens.
39:22So with our high-pages lever,
39:24we also got $5,000 to put towards a special item or object,
39:28which we decided obviously would be our spiral staircase.
39:32They are finally going in.
39:34Yeah, it was perfect.
39:36This isn't the first time we've seen
39:38a potentially game-changing spiral staircase installation on the show.
39:43The staircase is absolutely beautiful.
39:45Which won Tess and Luke the block.
39:47Our couple from Cairns.
39:49Tess and Luke.
39:51Winners of the block 2019.
39:54And things are also falling into place for Ricky and Hayden.
39:58Oh, look at that.
40:01Oh.
40:02Oh, s**t.
40:03It's the wrong colour.
40:08It is the fun factory down at House 3,
40:10so we've got to make sure we have the most amount of fun in this backyard.
40:13I don't know if anyone's doing a swing set or any sort of play equipment,
40:16so we're looking at a block first again, down at House 3.
40:21Well, boys.
40:23Scotty.
40:24Scotty.
40:25She's a fickle old island, this, with the weather, isn't it?
40:28Oh, it's beautiful, mate. We're loving it.
40:30How good is it?
40:31You might attend DIY Project.
40:33Get the job done right the first time.
40:36Wow, you've done a great job, boys.
40:37Very hard to drill through, so I took a little bit to get it done.
40:40Pretty heavy to lift, too.
40:41Well, congratulations. You win yourself these hats.
40:43Beautiful.
40:44They're magnificent.
40:45Legend, mate.
40:46Wag them on.
40:47Got my name on it and all.
40:48Ricky and Hayden, the Might of 10 DIY Project hat.
40:52Do you like those hats?
40:53Feel like an expert already.
40:55Well, maybe you might be able to make a better hat out of this.
40:59Now we're talking.
41:005,000 bucks.
41:01I'll take it.
41:02You can have it.
41:03Beautiful.
41:05That is mighty helpful, mate.
41:06Thank you very much.
41:07I like this.
41:08It looks great.
41:09A little bit of colonial touch to the modern house.
41:11Mm-hmm.
41:12It's beautiful.
41:13She's strong, mate.
41:14She's sturdy.
41:15You can get all the kids on it.
41:16Congratulations on your hats.
41:17Thanks, Scotty.
41:18Appreciate it.
41:19All right, bye.
41:20Thanks, Scotty.
41:21With the DIY Project complete, Ricky and Hayden are hoping to swing it to win it.
41:24Hard at house 4, they're about to completely face plant.
41:31What's this I hear about you're not getting delivery of plants?
41:34Yeah, no plant delivery.
41:36How come?
41:37Apparently all the drivers and the nurseries are too busy.
41:41Too busy for the block.
41:42Too busy, yeah.
41:43Well, Clay had made calls to a few of his wholesale nurseries that he deals with.
41:50When we questioned him about where the plants were and what day they were being delivered,
41:54he said, oh, they're too busy and they can't be delivered.
41:56We'll just pick them up.
41:58If I'd be ringing them up, surely they could swindle something.
42:01Yeah.
42:02I would have thought.
42:03So then I started ringing these nurseries.
42:06And the first one that I rung, they said, oh, yeah, we've heard from Clay,
42:10but he actually hasn't put an order in.
42:12So I was like, right, well, we actually need the plants for tomorrow
42:17because we have to present our backyard on Sunday.
42:21And I need them.
42:22Can you deliver them to Phillip Island?
42:24And they kind of laughed at me.
42:31Yeah, so Collie's gone to pick up some plants.
42:35We were under the impression that all our plants were sorted
42:38and we didn't have to worry about it.
42:40I asked a couple of times, and Clay's trying really hard to stay on top of everything,
42:44and we thought it was all sorted.
42:46Are we good?
42:47Apparently that was not quite the case.
42:49That was a bit of a bombshell for us.
42:53Look, he's been working his hardest.
42:54There's no doubt about that.
42:55He's put in 100%.
42:57And he wants us to do well.
42:59It's just when we have to go and get things, it's not that easy.
43:05There's a lot of work to be done back there, that's for sure.
43:13Baby.
43:14Hey.
43:15How are you?
43:16So do we have any beach plants on the island?
43:20Not that I've seen, no.
43:22****
43:23Yeah, what the ****?
43:26Literally.
43:28Sunday night, it's the final push to reveal,
43:32but Kylie and Brad fall even further behind.
43:36Everyone else's yards are developing and ours isn't.
43:39It's a pretty dire situation.
43:41A major problem is found in house one.
43:44Can't be revealed.
43:45What?
43:46Sorry, guys.
43:47The boys have put so much hard work in and I can't afford this mistake.
43:51And the backyards are revealed to the judges.
43:54Oh, my God.
43:56What on earth?
43:58But along with awe, there is also a total shocker.
44:02And what we're seeing is a really poorly planned, uninviting space.
