00:00Carver High believes the passing of Fernando Valenzuela will help the Dodgers.
00:09I don't know if it helps anybody in reality.
00:14What it does, if anything, it just sort of puts more pressure on the Los Angeles Dodgers
00:19as if there wasn't already enough pressure.
00:22It's just another layer on top right now of an already very special World Series and a
00:28World Series.
00:29This is different.
00:30This is different stuff.
00:31When you get the Dodgers and Yankees with these two fan bases and the history of these
00:36two franchises, it's going to sting to lose this one.
00:42It stings to lose any championship, but it's different.
00:46All right, we lost to the Astros.
00:47You lost to the Reds.
00:48It's just sort of another team.
00:51It's just sort of another team.
00:52The Yankees and the Dodgers, both fan bases, will never let this one go.
00:58The stakes are already incredibly high when you have the Dodgers versus the Yankees.
01:02You have Aaron Judge and Joey Otani.
01:06It's just absolutely crazy stuff that's already lined up, and now one of the all-time Dodger
01:11greats, unfortunately, passes away.
01:13He hadn't been well for the last year or so.
01:16Of course, he was the Spanish analyst on radio.
01:21It's not like Fernando Valenzuela, the story was just from the 80s or something like that.
01:26He's still a massive part of the community.
01:30To lose him right now, it's just another layer here, Scott, of pressure, and you got to do
01:36it for Fernando.
01:38The crowd is just going to be extra lit on Friday.
01:41It's crazy.
01:42I went to the game, too, right after Vin Scully died, and now I'm going to be there right
01:45after Fernando passed away.
01:48The first game, Fernando, I was at the second game after Vin passed away, but I saw Fernando
01:53Valenzuela live a few times, a bunch of times, and in fact, I saw him as a rookie in 1981.
01:59He pitched for Montreal in 81.
02:02He pitched in the playoff series against the Expos in 81, and then, of course, he won the
02:09World Series, and that's another little bit of symmetry here.
02:12The last time that the Yankees and Dodgers played in the World Series, Fernando Valenzuela
02:16was the reason the Dodgers won and won that World Series that year, and then, by chance,
02:23when I lived in LA, I used to go to a lot of Dodger games.
02:26One year, I went to 62 out of the 81 games.
02:30Another one of the years, I went to, I don't know, 30, 40 of them.
02:35There was a year or two where I used to just go every Friday night.
02:37That was my thing.
02:38I don't know why.
02:39I'm going to Dodger every Friday night.
02:40I'd go to the Dodger game home Friday night game.
02:43One of those home Friday night games, I guess it was, what, June 29th, I guess, 1991, turned
02:48out to be Fernando Valenzuela's only no-hitter, and what's crazy about it, it was Mexican
02:55Heritage Night, too, so imagine.
02:57It was already sort of, the stadium was popping that night.
03:01Fernando was at the back end of his career, so it was always sort of special any time
03:05he pitched, and he freaking threw a no-hitter against the St. Louis Cardinals, and I was
03:09there, and I was a Major League Baseball post-game show host, guys.
03:13Hell, I even did color for a game, Expos-Mets, so I've been to thousands of games, like as
03:19a fan, in the media, like, you know what I mean?
03:22Never saw a no-hitter live, Scott.
03:24The only no-hitter I ever saw live was Fernando Valenzuela, and I was a fan, and it was, love
03:30this, too, final little plot twist here.
03:33I was sitting in the same section I'm going to be sitting on Friday night, the right field
03:39bleachers.
03:40By chance, that night, I'll never forget it.
03:42I was in the right field bleachers the night Fernando threw a no-hitter, and I'll be in
03:45the right field bleachers on Friday night against the Yankees.
