00:00Today we are here at the second forum Insights on research to decline the value of research
00:11in two directions.
00:12The first, that of the ability to attract investments, foreign capital in Italy to generate
00:19a value at the local level, mainly economic and give an opportunity to patients who need
00:25new therapeutic solutions for areas in which they remain unsatisfied.
00:31The second is that social responsibility towards the new generation in terms of ability
00:41to educate, grow and maintain talent in Italy, because we are talking about the future
00:49class of scientists, the future scientific community in Italy and therefore what role
00:54does Italy want to play in being able to attract and maintain talent, which is the resource
01:00that projects us towards the future.
01:03At a time when life science has been seen to be particularly strategic, President Draghi
01:10also said so in the report on competitiveness, Europe will be able to fill the gap of innovation
01:20if we invest more in life science and if we will have the opportunity to attract innovation
01:26and research.
01:27So we are here today to underline the role of research and to reaffirm the role of research
01:36as a strategic asset fundamental for Italy, not only, but also for the whole of Europe.
01:42We can attract and maintain talent if we create an attractive ecosystem for innovation,
01:48so it is not only about creating a more welcoming and rewarding environment for innovation,
01:56but also that it clearly values talent, therefore it is not just an economic issue.
02:01In economic terms, we now know, it is very clear that to date the R&D system in Italy
02:11has invested more than 2 billion and therefore of these 800 million are in clinical research.
02:20Therefore, it will be necessary to create an ecosystem that, on the one hand, will be able to attract capital
02:27and foreign investments in Italy, because that is an additional contribution compared to national resources
02:35and, on the other hand, to give growth prospects for young talents who go in the direction
02:42of rewarding innovation and rewarding talent, because there is no innovation without research
02:47and therefore research is a generation of innovation, therefore it will be necessary to create a very welcoming
02:56and rewarding environment for research.
