00:00The community spirit, or bayanihan, is alive and well even in the streets and flooded roads of Camarinesur.
00:06Residents and natives of the place share inspiration and compassion
00:10to ease the burden of misery and suffering of others.
00:13Our Rod Laguzan tells us more.
00:18The local government unit of San Fernando, Camarinesur,
00:21has been working to clear this part of Maharlika Highway in the adjacent town of Milaor,
00:25where flooded vehicles stood helplessly in floodwaters,
00:29blocking road access on both directions.
00:31In this video, vehicles are submerged in chest-deep floodwaters.
00:53The municipalities stress the critical need to clear the road,
00:56as the LGU awaits the delivery of 5,000 family food packs from the DSWD regional office.
01:02Also, to enable stranded passengers, motorists and truck drivers to cross the town specially
01:07once the water levels subside.
01:09As many of them have been stranded for days,
01:11the LGU stepped up and provided assistance not only to affected residents
01:15but also to those stranded in the town.
01:17The municipal government cooked hot meals like congee or goto
01:20and distributed it to the stranded individuals.
01:26It's a waste of money.
01:28You don't have money to buy food.
01:30You don't expect the four-day stranded stay to last long.
01:33It's really a pity.
01:35We already cooked goto at home.
01:38We cooked 36 big pots of goto.
01:45The Red Cross has also sent a mobile kitchen that was used for food preparation.
01:49Earlier, the LGU already appealed to residents to help those stranded.
01:53As the spirit of Bayaniyan became evident with people offering food and water to those in need.
01:57Meanwhile, the floodwaters in Barangay Del Pilar is gradually subsiding
02:01as people can now cross part of the road despite the flash flood currents.
