26 October - National weather forecast presented by Kathryn Chalk.
Transcript
00:00Good afternoon. We've got a three-way split in the weather today. Sunny spars for some,
00:05cloud and outbreaks of rain for others. Having a look at the bigger picture then, we've got a
00:09frontal system across the south-east bringing cloud here. Further towards the north-west,
00:13a cold front will sink its way south and eastwards through tonight. A ridge of higher pressure then
00:18extends towards the south and west. But another system moving through on Sunday, bringing cloud
00:25and outbreaks of rain as that clears its way eastwards through Monday. But back to the rest
00:31of this afternoon, so a grey day across the south-east with outbreaks of rain and drizzle.
00:37Further towards the north-west, across Northern Ireland and Scotland, turning increasingly cloudy
00:42with heavy spells of rain. But in between, there will be plenty of autumnal sunshine out there,
00:48especially across the south-west of England, into Wales and northern parts of England too.
00:54Otherwise, temperatures close to average today, highs of 15 or 16 degrees,
00:59especially in the sunshine further towards the south and west. So as we go through Saturday
01:05evening, cloud and rain will gradually fizzle out. We may see some mist and fog patches develop
01:10towards the south and east. And then this cold front sinks its way south and eastwards. As it
01:15does so, tends to weaken. So many places actually starting off with a fine and dry start to Sunday,
01:22with clear skies, but it will be turning colder out there. So we may see some mist and fog,
01:27but also some pockets of frost to start Sunday morning. So you can see temperatures really
01:32dropping, especially in the countryside, down closer to freezing. But that does lead to a bright
01:39start for many of us. Any mist and fog patches to lift and clear. We'll see some blustery showers
01:44across northern parts of Scotland. Across the bulk of the UK, England and Wales seeing a fine
01:50afternoon. But further across Northern Ireland and Scotland, it will be turning increasingly
01:56cloudy and gloomy as we see outbreaks of rain pushed through. Could be heavy at times and
02:02persistent, especially over the highest ground. But otherwise, for all of us, it will be feeling
02:08a little bit chillier out there tomorrow. So highs actually in the south coming up at 13 to 15
02:14degrees. Underneath the cloud and rain, probably a chilly feel here. Highs of 10 to 11 degrees.
02:21So as we go through Sunday afternoon, this band of cloud and persistent rain will continue to
02:26sink its way south and eastwards, affecting much of Cumbria and also parts of Wales too,
02:32holding on to the clearest skies towards the far south and east. And don't forget the clocks go
02:38back tonight, so you've got an extra hour in bed. But that's all from me. Make sure to hit
02:42subscribe so you don't miss any updates and I'll catch you soon. Bye bye.
