00:00It's a wildly happy set.
00:01Coming to work just feels like hanging out
00:03with, like, your 50 funniest friends.
00:05Yeah.
00:06We keep it light, we keep it tight.
00:07Yeah.
00:08Okay, and action.
00:11♪♪
00:14It's a workplace comedy about the making
00:16of a franchise superhero movie.
00:18We're following the crew as they try and keep
00:20their movie afloat amidst the madness.
00:22Rolling!
00:23The scale of these films is so extraordinary.
00:25You're always only a day away from absolute chaos.
00:28Action!
00:29We're watching the filming of Tecto, Eye of the Storm.
00:33The great eye!
00:34For a man with second sight!
00:36Why are you shouting?
00:37Why is he shouting?
00:39I'm ready to cut there.
00:40Through superhero films and film industry in general,
00:42it's like people trying to make great things
00:44and spending loads of hours every day
00:46trying to get it right.
00:48Everyone doing their job is giving it
00:50their absolute maximum, but what they're making
00:52is a movie about an earthquake man
00:54based on a comic from the 40s
00:56that was never meant to be this thing.
00:58I'm not gonna look like an asshole up there.
01:00No, look, I feel fucking excellent, okay?
01:03Himesh Patel plays Daniel, the first assistant director.
01:07Lollie Adephopi plays Dagg, who's the third.
01:10Tough, isn't it? The biz.
01:12Their basic function is to get through
01:13to the end of the day successfully.
01:15That's their job.
01:15Not panicking.
01:17Just take five, everyone!
01:18Billy Magnusson plays the lead character
01:20of the movie that they're making.
01:21And Richard E. Grant is playing a character called Peter.
01:24Quiet on set!
01:26They hate each other.
01:27They hate each other.
01:28They absolutely despise each other.
01:30Just quietly.
01:31Number one is pretending to be on a drill.
01:34And then you have the European auteur director
01:36who's come in from his first and only independent hit.
01:40And then you have the American producers
01:43played by Aya Cash and Darren.
01:45Ah, there they are!
01:47Team Tecto, the real heroes.
01:50You see us working with, like, the costumers
01:52and the sound department and VFX.
01:54We are playing these parts, but then there are also people
01:56on the set who are actually doing these jobs.
01:59When you're seeing offices, those are also the offices
02:02of the HBO show, the franchise.
02:04I love those scenes where you're sort of going
02:06through all the action and you're seeing
02:08all this life in the background.
02:09There's so much specificity in the world
02:11that's created here that's just really dreamy to be a part of.
02:15Let's pre-vis our happy faces and go tell the man
02:18we hate how much we love him.
02:19A lot of the experiences that we were having in the show,
02:22we were also having on set.
02:24Like, we're having actors up on wires,
02:26and in the script, they're uncomfortable
02:27because they're on wires, but then the actual actors
02:29are uncomfortable because they're on wires.
02:30Can we go down? I can't feel my balls.
02:32And no one let him down because they thought
02:33he was in the scene.
02:34And cut!
02:35Someone will say, cut, and then there'll be
02:36some confusion as to whether that is a line
02:38in the script or whether people really want you
02:40to stop acting.
02:41All right, let's turn over.
02:43In the end, it's about a group of people
02:45worrying if they're killing cinema
02:47or indeed reinvigorating it.
02:50There's value.
02:51There's something at stake for these characters as they move
02:53through this world of creating the franchise.
02:55When they're really done well, that can be funny
02:57and moving and characterful, I don't think
02:59there's anything better than that.
03:02It's not just a takedown of franchise movies.
03:04There's something heroic about the act of making any movie
03:07these days against all the odds.
03:09Bah!
03:10Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
03:13And we've cut there.
03:14We've cut there.
