The Incredible Makeup of Mystique from the movie X-Men
In all the X-Men films she has appeared in, Mystique's transformations have always been very well done. What almost no one knows is that behind all that effect is a huge amount of work by a makeup team.
Anyone who has watched the X-Men films must imagine that this is not an easy task. Even those who didn't watch it, just looking at the “beauty” in the image above can already imagine this, as the entire makeup is full of details!
The entire job takes around seven hours to complete. Six women are part of the team that transforms Jennifer Lawrence into Mystique. In an interview with American presenter Jimmy Fallon from the American TV program “The Tonight Show,” Jennifer said what all the makeup and body painting production work was like.
The person responsible for the makeup work on the actress is Frances Hannon. She said they had to do around 20 tests — with body paint on different women — in order to find the perfect shade of blue for the character.
Jennifer said that first of all, Mystique's scales were applied to her skin, followed by three layers of blue paint. Five more layers of paint were then applied, which the actress called a projection effect.
After tiring hours, Jennifer said: “I know everyone felt sorry for me, but it was so much fun, it felt like a slumber party, except I was naked and being painted.”
