Paris show spotlights Afghan women who 'lost hope'

Posing in a pink hijab in front of a window, 14-year-old Muska will soon be married "in exchange for a well and some solar panels," explains the caption on her photograph. There are dozens of images of Afghan women and girls like Muska at the Paris exhibition "No Woman's Land," which offers a glimpse into their private lives, despair and rare moments of joy.

00:34We wanted to give that sense with how we placed the walls so people can travel through these
00:39interior spaces and exterior.
00:42When you're outside of this house, this is supposed to be the idea of a house, it's all
00:46the street scenes, it's a society, it's a community.
00:49When you're inside, you're inside women's homes.
00:52We're trying to create an intimate space with them.
00:55Getting access has been difficult.
00:59Getting visa, being able to navigate through the country, dealing with the Taliban and
01:04getting the right permission to do this.
01:06But also, a lot of these women, they are risking a lot to be in front of our cameras to speak
01:11to us.
01:12And their safety has always had the highest priority for us, to make sure they're in a
01:17safe space, they can speak, we protect their identities when it's needed, and also make
01:22sure they understand where this work is going to be shown and how they're going to be portrayed.
01:29These were some of the challenges we faced.
