Employees gather in Wolfsburg as Volkswagen mulls closing German plants

Information meetings and internal mobilizations are taking place across Germany's Volkswagen plants, as the ailing auto giant plans to close at least three factories and slash tens of thousands of jobs as part of drastic cost-savings drive. At the brand's headquarters in Wolfsburg, several hundred employees gather to listen to the chairwoman of the works council. "Me and my colleagues are afraid for our jobs," says Britta John, a Volkswagen employee since 1997.
