00:00The Butuan City was inaugurated in the Philippine Experience Program of the Department of Tourism in Caragas
00:05by those who were the first to sail a ship that is a part of the rich history of the country.
00:11This is what Rod Lagusa has to say.
00:14Here in Butuan City, the first to sail the 1,000-year-old Balangay or the so-called Butuan Boats
00:20or the first Philippine ship that is a part of the rich history and recognition of the Filipinos.
00:27This is what was inaugurated by the Philippine Experience Program of the Department of Tourism in Caragas
00:32where the program aims to introduce to the public the lesser-known destinations in the country
00:36and to increase the tourism of each region.
00:39The first of the Balangay that was inaugurated was in the 1970s
00:42which can now be found in Butuan Archaeological Park
00:45which was accidentally opened while the Lumsod of Drainage was under construction.
00:49While the Boat No. 5 can be found in the National Museum of the Philippines, Butuan
00:53one of the original museums of the National Museum of the Philippines.
00:57We are bustling, we have a maritime trade now, long before Majela, because we are pre-colonial.
01:04Because the people of the past, there was no highway in the past.
01:09So the method of traveling is through boat because it's easier for them to travel.
01:17To this day, experts are still finding out where these people came from.
01:21We have a very rich cultural heritage.
01:25We are under the only boat in the Philippines that is very unique.
01:32That's why it's a big thing for Solungsod to increase the tourism of the place.
01:36The National Economic Development Authority, based on reports from the Philippine Statistics Authority
01:42has declared that for 2023, and they reported just recently in August,
01:50in the Caragas region, poverty incidence has reduced by 11 percent.
01:55And that 11 percent reduction in poverty incidence is attributed to the tourism sector.
02:00As a result of this, the regional office continued to strengthen the recognition of lesser-known destinations that they have.
02:07Meanwhile, one of the main attractions here in Butuan City is the Agusan River, which is an important part of Solungsod.
02:13The Agusan River is the third longest river here in the Philippines, reaching up to Davao.
02:18At present, the river is used for transportation from Butuan City to several towns in Agusan del Norte.
02:26Aside from this, it is also important for the economy because it is used as a means of transportation of various products.
02:32While riding a boat, you can see the Banza Church Ruins.
02:35And next to the Agusan River, you can find the Balangay Building Site.
02:39Here, they build replicas of the Balangay, like the Raya Colombo, which was built within three months.
02:45It's a big help because you can take care of your children, you can go to school, you can educate your children.
02:54And if your friends want to ask for help, you can give it to them.
03:00This is just a proof of the help given by tourism to the communities in the sector, which gives life to the Filipinos.
03:07Rod Laguzad for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
