00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. led the opening of a Logistics Distribution Center in Laguna today.

00:08According to the President, it will greatly help the economy of the country and the creation of thousands of jobs.

00:23President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. led the opening of a Logistics Distribution Center in Laguna today.

00:31It covers an area of 10 hectares.

00:33The President insisted that it will serve as a pathway to strengthen the logistics system in the country,

00:38which will greatly help the economy of Laguna, especially the logistics sector.

00:43With the grand opening of the Maersk Optimus Distribution Center,

00:48our logistics system will be a step closer to become a powerful force,

00:53bridging our islands, breathing life into our industries, our businesses,

00:58bringing together our people on a path towards sustained development.

01:02The Maersk Optimus Distribution Center attests to the shared vision of Maersk Philippines and Solid Group Inc.,

01:10a vision for a more inclusive and sustainable growth.

01:15It will also provide a pathway to establishments for stronger import and export activities,

01:19especially in the Calabarzon, which will result in the strengthening of the supply chain,

01:23the expansion of the administration's desire for Manila to be decongested,

01:27and a broader opportunity in the province, especially in the creation of jobs.

01:31In the coming years, the Maersk Optimus Distribution Center is expected to create employment

01:38for 1,000 people in its surrounding communities,

01:42and indirect employment for another 1,000 individuals,

01:46from vendors and service providers to truckers and beyond.

01:50When a large plant such as this is put up in a community,

01:56the downstream employment that comes,

02:00both the full employment and partial employment,

02:03is usually three times the direct employment in the facility.

02:09So, it is a great boon to the local community.

02:13The President also praised the company's efforts to build the warehouse and distribution center

02:18with a focus on the environment in line with the government's vision

02:22to achieve net zero carbon emissions.

02:25From utilizing solar power to reduce its grid consumption by 30 percent

02:30to deploying electric vehicles for the last mile services,

02:34it is committed to earning a gold certification under the leadership in energy and environmental design.

02:42Environmental stewardship is a cornerstone of this administration's agenda,

02:47and it is heartening to see the private sector partners echoing this commitment.

02:53It is more critical as we face natural calamities such as the typhoons and storms

02:57that have intensified because of climate change.

03:00The MERSK Optimus Distribution Center has 76,000 pallet storage capacity

03:06that will serve as a transport hub for Central Luzon.

03:09It also has a 75-dock for outbound and inbound operations.

03:13It is the largest warehouse and distribution hub of the company.

03:17Meanwhile, the President gave a directive to local governments

03:20to prepare for the possible effects of the León Tsunami

03:23that is currently affecting Extreme Northern Luzon.

03:27Unfortunately, it looks like it's going to happen again, so let's prepare well.
