00:00The Labour Party has announced its candidate for North Tyneside's mayoral election next
00:05year. Councillor Karen Clark saw off two Labour rivals to secure her position as the party's
00:10candidate for 2025's race for Mayor of North Tyneside. These councillors were Jo Kirwin,
00:15who didn't make the shortlist, and David Slater, who she beat in a vote of local party
00:19members. The party's internal contest was sparked after current Mayor Dame Norma Redfern
00:25announced in May of this year that she would not be seeking re-election and will therefore
00:29step down in 2025. Councillor Redfern has won two subsequent mayoral elections in North
00:35Tyneside. Councillor Clark is currently North Tyneside's council's cabinet member, responsible
00:41for public health and well-being, and the co-founding director of the Justice Prince
00:46Community Interest Company, which tackles regional economic and social inequalities.
00:52Councillor Liam Bones announced his candidacy as the Conservatives' party candidate for
00:56the mayoral election earlier this month.
