00:00All right, it's a frightful Halloween special. You know, we got Andrew Whitworth,
00:07Ryan Fitzpatrick, they're in town for tonight's Amazon Prime Thursday night
00:12football game. And you know what? We're going for a walk, so let's go.
00:18Let's get moving.
00:28Thank you for having us, Frank.
00:29400, is that right?
00:31Walk number 400.
00:32And we're no days off?
00:34Yeah, 400 days off.
00:35Oh, wow.
00:36No days off. It goes back to last September.
00:39And it's been 400 straight days now.
00:43Through sick, through bad weather.
00:46I mean, I walk with a sinus infection.
00:50Wow. So, Frank, when you say 400 days walking, is there like a goal every day when you go walk?
00:55How many steps do you want to get?
00:57When I started it was, and it still is, 10,000 is my minimum.
01:02Okay.
01:03But my goal truly is about 15,000.
01:05Wow. That's a lot of steps.
01:07Where's your step counter?
01:09It's my wrist. It's on my wrist.
01:12So, I want to get this out of the way early. The pace of this walk right here, you know,
01:17I had mentioned Whit's got really long strides. He has a hard time just kind of staying still.
01:23So, I will walk as fast or as slow as you want. We may lose Whit after a while.
01:28It's hard for me to shorten my stride, guys.
01:30Well, my stride's faster now than it was a year ago. I can tell you that much.
01:34I would struggle. I would struggle.
01:36What has it done for your daily mood? Just kind of overall health and wellness and well-being in that head of yours.
01:43I guess I am a lot more healthy, in a better, healthier spot, too.
01:48The Mets helped that out by having a great run this year.
01:53You almost ended to the Mets.
01:54We got to the Mets quickly.
01:56Yes.
01:57That team in South Florida is kind of driving me nuts.
02:01Kind of driving you a little crazy.
02:02So, it hasn't helped with the mood swings with the Miami Dolphins, is what you're telling me?
02:07Yeah. No.
02:08They're still frustrating.
02:09What do you think about Tua's new hairstyle?
02:11Yeah. How do you feel about that?
02:13I just hope his head stays safe.
02:15Yeah.
02:16I'm tired of seeing him get hurt.
02:19Yeah. I think everybody hopes that.
02:21Everybody feels that way.
02:23I mean, to me, I think the way the Dolphins were constructed this offseason is absolute malpractice and incompetence from the general manager.
02:37So, you're not a Chris Greer fan?
02:38I'm not a fan.
02:39He's been there 20 years.
02:42He hasn't won a playoff game in 24 years.
02:46Results do matter.
02:47Yeah. He's been headed to scouting.
02:49He's been in the scouting department, and he's been assistant general manager and general manager.
02:56I mean.
02:58Do you have any good memories from the 2019 or 2020 seasons that you'd like to talk about?
03:03Or nothing? There's just been no bright spots there in the last?
03:062019, I think you guys won too many games.
03:09What are you fishing for there, Rob?
03:10Oh, we won too many games.
03:11Yes.
03:12Okay.
03:13But what would you have liked to see?
03:17So, to draft Joe Burrow?
03:18Yeah.
03:19Yeah? Okay.
03:20I thought that was the year that the Dolphins were completely tanked.
03:23Yeah.
03:24And I was at peace with that.
03:27Okay.
03:28Especially when they got, like, what was it? 0-6? 0-7?
03:31Yeah.
03:32Dark days.
03:33And then you came in and won a couple of games.
03:39That's my memory.
03:40Is there resentment?
03:42No, there's no resentment.
03:43There's no resentment.
03:44Okay.
03:45Good.
03:46He's forgiven you by now.
03:47In 2020, they played with a lot of heart and spirit.
03:49Almost made the playoffs.
03:50If there were seven teams that year, they would have made the playoffs.
03:54And you were a good mentor to that year.
04:02And I think some of the confusion was the tug of war between wanting to put a
04:07rookie quarterback in there and wanting to try to make the playoffs between the
04:11GM and the coach, which led to Brian Flores' dismissal.
04:16Yeah.
04:17That's basically what I remember from your tenure with the Dolphins.
04:20Yeah.
04:21You played very well, obviously.
04:23That's all I wanted to hear.
04:24Yeah.
04:25You played very well.
04:26All he wanted you to say was that right there.
04:28That's all he really wanted.
04:30How's your celebrity around here now that you've been doing these walks?
04:33You get a lot of people following you?
04:35I get a lot of people following me saying, hey, Frank, hey, Frank.
04:38It's crazy.
04:39What's even crazier is sometimes I'm walking down the street and all of a
04:42sudden I'll hear, woo, woo, woo, Frank the Turk.
04:45And it'll be either a police officer or a fireman on the loudspeaker.
04:49They'll honk at me or wave at me.
04:52Yeah.
04:53Do you get some people stop you and say, man, you've inspired us?
04:55Oh, yeah.
04:56Yeah.
04:57That's really cool.
04:58I mean, that's a good part.
05:00We have Don down there in Virginia, Don Gilbert, and he's got stage 4 cancer.
05:07And right now he's going through some – it's tough right now for him.
05:12I've heard he's been really sick lately, but he's fighting and he's still
05:17fighting, and I'm thinking about you, Don.
05:21Don, we're thinking about you, brother.
05:23Thinking about you, Don.
05:24I mean, but that's incredible.
05:28I've actually inspired people.
05:30People tell me they've lost weight.
05:31I've seen people who are even fit saying, hey, if he can do it, I can do it.
05:36It inspires them to go even further.
05:38Yeah, do even more.
05:39That, to me, is crazy.
05:41I mean, I was 380 pounds last year, and my highest, heaviest was –
05:50I was over 500 pounds at one point.
05:52Wow.
05:53I was wearing size 6.
05:55I mean, I put my –
05:57What do you wear now?
05:58I'm down to size 3 shirts.
06:00There we go.
06:01I love that.
06:03Now, Witt's down to a double X, but he can probably give you some of his 3X
06:06clothes if you want.
06:07That's right.
06:08I've got some extra 3X.
06:09Are you a big Bengals or Rams fan at all?
06:11I've got some extra 3Xs.
06:13More of a Bengals.
06:14I don't like any teams from L.A., personally.
06:18Especially the one we played last night, probably.
06:21Yeah, especially a team.
06:24I'm not – you see we have – there's two different types of Mets fans.
06:28There's Mets fans who hate the Yankees, like they're celebrating today,
06:33they're gloating.
06:34And there are Mets fans like me that, you know, they're the American League.
06:38Yeah.
06:39I hate the American League.
06:40The American League is boring.
06:42Can you explain to Witt these New York teams and how it goes?
06:47If you're a Giants fan, you're usually –
06:51They kind of go together if you're a Yankees fan.
06:53With the different sports.
06:54You know, the different sports that you like.
06:55Well, in baseball, there are a lot more Yankee Mets haters.
07:00Okay.
07:01Mets fans – it's a little more rigid.
07:04Football, I think Giants fans pity the Jets.
07:07Okay.
07:08But if you're a Giants fan, who are you cheering for in baseball?
07:11Are you a Giants Yankee?
07:12Is it Mets Jets?
07:14What's the deal?
07:15It's always – Mets Jets has always been kind of connected,
07:17especially the years that the Jets trained and played on the –
07:22had their practice facilities on Long Island.
07:25They shared Shea Stadium.
07:27So you have that historic connection.
07:29The Giants are more encompassing because the Giants have a bigger fan base.
07:36The Jets have kind of a small fan base.
07:39I mean, it's – that organization, I mean,
07:46even as a Dolphin fan, I think I'm starting to pity them.
07:49Wow.
07:50So, Frank, one thing their people, their superstars, wanted you to advise them on.
07:56Oh, yes.
07:57They're new to sports media, podcasting, you know, they're athletes.
08:00What advice do you have from all your years of experience?
08:03We need some advice, Frank.
08:04Give us some advice on podcasting, doing media.
08:06I'd say the best thing you could do on a podcast.
08:09We're walking here.
08:10I'd say the best thing you could do on a podcast is to be Frank.
08:14Oh, wow.
08:15I mean, you've got to be –
08:16Look at you.
08:17That's great.
08:18Look at you.
08:19I mean –
08:20Has he said that before?
08:21He's never said that.
08:22He's definitely just made it up.
08:23You've got to be Frank.
08:24That's great.
08:25Okay.
08:26I'm going to write that down.
08:27And I know you've got to be toe-to-line sometimes, but if you're honest
08:32and you say something different, say something that, hey, I wouldn't expect that,
08:36that's how you get your audience.
08:38There we go.
08:39Okay.
08:40But, I mean, Frank, are you – I feel like there's a real authenticity with you.
08:44You're not doing anything really for the wow factor.
08:46What we see is what we get.
08:47Is that right?
08:48Yeah.
08:49That's how you actually feel, right?
08:50Yeah, that's how I feel.
08:51Yeah.
08:52I mean –
08:53The clip of you throwing all the chairs and stuff when the – what happened?
08:55The Dolphins lost?
08:56Yeah.
08:57At the Barstool headquarters?
08:58Yeah, probably.
08:59A little frustrated.
09:00Dolphins or Mets lost.
09:02I mean, yeah, this year was the – especially when we lost that first game to Buffalo.
09:08And then two about the concussion.
09:10Yeah, that was a Thursday night game.
09:11We were there.
09:12We were there.
09:13It was just like –
09:14So were you a fan of Josh Allen?
09:17I respect Josh Allen.
09:20You respect him.
09:21I respect him.
09:22I think he's a very good quarterback.
09:24Though he lost to me in the dozen.
09:26I beat you in the dozen, Josh.
09:30You remember that?
09:31He beat you in the dozen, Josh.
09:32Yes, but I wish he wasn't a Buffalo Bill.
09:36I'll put it that way.
09:38Well, you had years against Tom Brady where it was tough.
09:41It was tough.
09:42And now –
09:43And if the Bills win the Super Bowl, so be it.
09:46I'd be happy for the fans of Buffalo.
09:48It's not – this Dolphins season, I consider lost.
09:52And I'm now hoping for a better draft pick.
09:55You're already giving up on the season.
09:56Oh, yes.
09:57You're done.
09:58I'm completely done.
09:59Two weeks ago.
10:00Oh, wow.
10:01You've been out for a while.
10:02Does that mean you're done?
10:03Like, so if you're done on the Dolphins, you're done on their season.
10:06Yeah.
10:07Is there another NFL team you're like, all right, fine, I'm going to root for these guys to finish?
10:10No.
10:11Well, are you just done with NFL?
10:12I don't want the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl.
10:14Okay.
10:15I'm tired of the Chiefs.
10:16Whatever scenario.
10:17They've won enough.
10:18The Chiefs are over.
10:19Yeah, I don't want the Chiefs to win.
10:21I mean, I don't want to see them 3-peat.
10:24I want to see someone new win.
10:26You know who I would like to see win the Super Bowl?
10:29Give it to me.
10:30I mean, there's no chance the Dolphins turn their season around.
10:33But the Detroit Lions.
10:35I knew you were going there.
10:37The Detroit Lions.
10:41I mean, talk about a fan base starved.
10:44Yeah.
10:45I mean, before last year they only had one playoff win in 65 years.
10:50I mean, the curse of Bobby Lane.
10:53Do you know how many NFL teams with cat nicknames have won the Super Bowl?
11:01I don't think they have.
11:02Nope.
11:03You can't stump this guy.
11:04You can't stump, Frank.
11:06Can't just have come close.
11:07Curse of the cat.
11:08The Bengals.
11:10Oh, those Bengals.
11:11Curse of the cat.
11:12Boomer was there.
11:13Joe was there.
11:15I remember Super Bowl XVI.
11:19I remember they had a good – I was very young, too, that year.
11:23So I remember that Super Bowl.
11:24The icky shuffle.
11:26That was Super Bowl XXIII.
11:27XXIII, okay.
11:28They should have won that one.
11:30I think if Tim Crumroy doesn't break his leg, they win that Super Bowl.
11:35Are you a savant?
11:36You know all these off the top of your head?
11:38I know a lot of it, yeah.
11:39Is sports your passion?
11:41Yes.
11:42Yeah, sports is your passion.
11:43Especially baseball.
11:44Baseball is my favorite.
11:45Okay.
11:46So I know a little more baseball than anything else.
11:48So 1972, what happened?
11:51Dolphins went –
11:52No, baseball.
11:53Oh, baseball.
11:55The Oakland Athletics won the first of three straight World Series.
11:59Wow, let's talk about MLB 2001.
12:04Diamondbacks.
12:05Yeah, that's where I'm from, Arizona.
12:08I was watching a Santa routine of Jim Brewer a couple years ago,
12:15and he said that he truly felt that America was back
12:21and New York was back when he was happy to do the Diamondbacks
12:25won the World Series because it was cool to hate the Yankees again.
12:28Nice.
12:30Speaking of hating the Yankees, do you have any idea what college I attended?
12:37You went to Harvard.
12:38Thank you for bringing that up, Frank.
12:41So my senior year, 2004, what happened?
12:45Oh, that was the comeback or the Dr. Heimlich.
12:53Yeah, depending on which way you look at it.
12:56That was pretty cool for me, going out there,
12:59jumping over the fires in the streets, and that was a fun team to watch.
13:06What are you thinking about tonight, Frank?
13:08You got Texas Jets.
13:10I actually think it's Halloween.
13:13You think we'll get a Aaron Rodgers, good Aaron Rodgers tonight?
13:17I think the Jets are going to be disguised as winners tonight.
13:20What's your take on A-Rod this year?
13:23I just think he didn't realize what was happening to him
13:26when he signed up to be a Jet, you know?
13:30So it's more of the organizational failures
13:32than it is the Aaron Rodgers failures, you think?
13:34It is, it is.
13:36The Jets, you know, there's a line in the Sopranos
13:39that he feels like he's Midas in reverse.
13:42Everything that's gold that he touches turns to shit, and that's the Jets.
13:46The Jets, I mean, my favorite image of this season so far
13:54is Aaron Rodgers got his hand on his face.
13:58He's doing like a face palm, and there's a blood spatter
14:02that shapes of an L on the back of his hand.
14:06Wow.
14:07I mean, it's like the universe is just out to get the Jets.
14:13Someone actually once said about the Jets that to win Super Bowl III
14:17that they made a Faustian deal, and I don't know.
14:23It's looking like it's actually true.
14:25I mean, there's something mystical that happens with the Jets
14:30where Aaron Rodgers, before he snaps in, snaps his Achilles.
14:38There's just something about them.
14:42And people always ask me how come I'm not a Jets fan
14:45because most Mets fans tend to drift to the Jets.
14:48I say, I don't think I can mentally handle being a Jets fan.
14:51Yeah.
14:52Do you know another piece of trivia on the Jets here?
14:55Do you know who holds the single season record for most touchdown passes?
14:59Oh, my gosh.
15:00This is getting nauseous at this point.
15:02I think this guy does.
15:03Thanks, Frank.
15:05So if we get a chance, I'll probably talk to Woody Johnson pregame.
15:08Anything you want me to tell him?
15:10Or ask him?
15:12No.
15:13No, nothing?
15:14I have nothing for the Jets.
15:16Okay.
15:18I'm a Dolphin fan, and my main concern is…
15:24You want them to keep doing what they're doing.
15:26I want the Dolphins to tear it down, rebuild.
15:30And the Jets to say how they are.
15:32With a new general manager.
15:34What's your thoughts on Mike McDaniel?
15:39I just don't know about him anymore.
15:41It looks like the league figured him out, and he hasn't adjusted well.
15:44I think he's a guy that, in terms of his football career
15:51and coaching career, hasn't dealt with a ton of adversity.
15:54And so when you deal with all that adversity,
15:56and you're not sure how to do it or how to react,
15:59he's kind of been a different person.
16:02That's not good either.
16:04And this year, it hasn't looked good.
16:09I think he tries to be too cute with his play calling sometimes.
16:13And these quick motions.
16:16I've never seen a team call for that illegal shift
16:18more than I've seen the Dolphins get called for it.
16:22I saw one game where they got called for like six times against Seattle.
16:26There's just not a lot of teams in the playoff runs
16:28that win with that style.
16:31You've got to be able to run the football.
16:32You've got to play defense.
16:34You know what the Dolphins remind me of?
16:36The run and shoot from the early 90s.
16:40They remind me of the run and shoot.
16:42And that was good for a few years, and then people caught on,
16:45and the run and shoot disappeared.
16:48What I don't like about the Dolphins is they didn't do a good job
16:51of fixing the offensive line.
16:53They let Robert Hunt walk.
16:55They let Christian Wilkins walk, who was the heart and soul
16:57of that defense.
16:59I loved Christian Wilkins.
17:00You know who else I loved?
17:02Andrew Van Ginkle.
17:03Oh, the Ginkler.
17:05We're big Ginkler guys here.
17:06I love Andrew Van Ginkle.
17:08I was so pissed off the Dolphins let him walk.
17:11Do you know what Andrew Van Ginkle named his firstborn son?
17:14No, I don't.
17:15Ripken.
17:16Rip Van Ginkle.
17:18Oh, I love that.
17:19I knew you'd love it, Frank.
17:20I love that.
17:21I knew you'd love it.
17:22I miss Andrew Van Ginkle.
17:23He was really one of my favorite Dolphins.
17:26You know who I love now?
17:27I think you're going to think the same way about this guy,
17:29Zach Seeler.
17:30What do we think about Zach?
17:32Good player.
17:33Solid player, right?
17:34I'm glad he didn't lose his eye.
17:36I mean, I can't believe he got poked in the eye in practice
17:41and is going to be out a couple weeks.
17:43These big uglies, I mean, it's ruthless in there.
17:46Yeah, I know.
17:47Do we ever stop for food or no?
17:49No.
17:50No.
17:51No street, no?
17:52Water, no?
17:53Corndog?
17:54Street?
17:55No, body water.
17:56Body water for you.
17:57Well, I could drink out of the same if you don't mind.
18:00Pour it in the cap.
18:02You really want it?
18:03I'm good, thank you.
18:04We definitely want some.
18:05Yeah, here you go.
18:07You can have some.
18:08You can have some water.
18:09And to your point, Frank,
18:10how many good football teams lose people in the trenches
18:13and become better?
18:14When you start losing guys in the trenches, man,
18:16you can't lose the big fellas.
18:17Christian Wilkins.
18:18That's good stuff, Robert.
18:19Van Ginkle.
18:20You think of the good teams in the NFL, they have good trenches.
18:22Yes.
18:23Yes.
18:25And to me, I love Tyree Kelly.
18:27He's a great player.
18:28Waddle is a great player.
18:31If you have receivers that are great and stars and impressive and fast,
18:37it's like having a Lamborghini.
18:39It really is the Lamborghini next to the shed.
18:42Yep.
18:43The shack.
18:44That's really what it is when you build with receivers first.
18:47Yep.
18:48Yeah, Sherm likes that analogy, too.
18:49He does.
18:50He uses that one all the time.
18:52It's receivers are great, but, you know, you need the trenches.
18:57Yep.
18:58And Chris Greer, he became unforgivable with the one clip,
19:04if you've ever seen it.
19:06They asked him, and he chuckled,
19:09you're worried about the offensive line.
19:13Chris, I still love you.
19:15Frank doesn't really think very highly of you.
19:17It's part of the job.
19:18I know that.
19:19Yeah, well.
19:20Let's do some math here, Frank.
19:21So how many in 400 days weight loss, what are you at?
19:25How many pounds?
19:26We started at what?
19:27Weighing today, I'm hoping to be somewhere around 320.
19:32A year ago, I was 382.
19:35383 down to 320, 63 pounds.
19:39You're down what?
19:40Probably down 40.
19:42Okay.
19:44So we are collectively down 83 pounds in the last year, the three of us.
19:49That means you're up 37, or what's the deal?
19:51Feels really good.
19:53I know he said about the big offensive linemen.
19:56A lot of them, just as soon as they retire, it's like.
19:59Get all this off of me.
20:01Like Allen.
20:02Now.
20:03I saw what Allen Fanica got in Hall of Fame.
20:05Oh, yeah.
20:06He got into, like, marathon running and stuff.
20:08It was crazy.
20:09It's like he'd vanished.
20:10That's not Allen Fanica.
20:11That's someone who's clearly to be Allen Fanica.
20:13Yeah, he lost a ton of weight.
20:15Boy, there's some more.
20:16That looks healthy.
20:17Ryan took down some street food last night.
20:20You want some?
20:21But you never stop to eat on these things.
20:23No, I don't.
20:24Okay, well, I'm not.
20:25No, I'll come back.
20:26I'll come back.
20:27Come on, Ryan.
20:28The mangoes look good?
20:29This guy last night, I mean, he ate ten lobster rolls.
20:31He had street food on our way back.
20:34Oh, I tied it on.
20:35He tied it on last night.
20:36Now, I know both of you have some charity in Denver.
20:40Your final season, you won the Super Bowl and the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.
20:46I did.
20:47That was a pretty special moment to have the end of your career be, you know,
20:51two of the biggest accolades you could get.
20:53To be kind of my last four days as an NFL player was insane.
20:58I mean, still now, it's like hard to look back and even think it wasn't a dream.
21:01Now, what stuff do you basically work on charity-wise?
21:04You know, I think it's changed throughout my career.
21:06I think when I was a young player, it was a lot about stuff in my hometown
21:09and things I could do there
21:12and then started developing to stuff I would do in Cincinnati
21:15because I played there for 11 years.
21:17And then when I became a Los Angeles Ram, it was really,
21:19hey, how can I champion things in the community that different people are doing really well?
21:23I don't have to reinvent the wheel.
21:25Find groups and people who are making a positive impact on kids and communities.
21:30And so, I've done a little bit of everything, things with veterans,
21:32things with homelessness, Boys and Girls Club.
21:36You kind of name it.
21:38We've been all over the place.
21:39So, it's, you know, a lot of food bank.
21:43Homelessness and really food insecurities are one of the biggest issues they face every day.
21:48So, it's been really cool to be a part of that.
21:51Oh, a little wood stroll. I love it.
21:54You know, Vincent and I love to do this.
21:55You know, Frank, we like to take a little Central Park stroll when we're here.
21:59Yeah, this is normal for us.
22:00This is kind of usual.
22:01We've really enjoyed the company today.
22:03It's been awesome.
22:04Thanks for joining us, you know.
22:07Looking forward to the game tonight.
22:09And you guys do a great job on there.
22:12So, thank you.
22:13And believe me, my memories of you on golfers were positive.
22:18You were a very good quarterback.
22:20You won too many games.
22:21But you might have won too many games in 2019.
22:24It's kind of, I kind of wanted Joe Burrell.
22:26Yeah.
22:27I kind of wanted Joe Burrell, you know.
22:29So, you won too many games and he didn't want you there.
22:30Yeah, my apologies, Frank.
22:32Frank, that was a lot of fun.
22:34Appreciate it, Frank.
22:35Thank you, man.
22:39It was great.
