A couple have hit out at Royal Mail after going four weeks without any post including birthday cards and tax letters.

Damien McArdle, 44, is yet to receive a single card for his birthday on October 13 and said the 'ridiculous' delays are now affecting his work.

The entrepreneur, from Maidstone, Kent, is waiting from a letter from HMRC to give him a code to begin invoicing clients after launching a new company.

The Royal Mail insist the couple are awaiting no letters - but Damien says he is yet to receive items he knows were send to him weeks ago.

00:00I've been waiting for post now for about four weeks, nearly a month. The Royal Mail has
00:07never really told us that we didn't have post service here in Maidstone near
00:13Balming. What's happened is we've had to investigate it ourselves. The reason we
00:18know this is that we started a small business and unfortunately the
00:23information that we need from the government for this small business has
00:27not come through as the government still uses the post. I had a birthday a
00:33couple of weeks ago and no cards had turned up and although this is quite
00:36minor in certain aspects I am also very concerned in the wider aspect of the
00:43vulnerable and the elderly who are really using the postal service for
00:48medical information or anything DVLA information and if anyone's had a parking
00:55ticket for example that I think is quite concerning if the parking ticket
01:01is one of these that escalates over a non-responsive over a few weeks which
01:06can end up in hundreds of pounds. So I would really like the Royal Mail to be
01:12able to explain and justify the reason for not telling anyone that there's been
01:17no postal service in our area for the last four weeks.
