We're back with another episode of All Wednesday, and in the build-up to the upcoming Steel City derby we spoke to Steve Tongue, the author of Yorkshire Turf Wars, to see how the rivalry between Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United has developed over the years.

00:00Look, it's a city that's rarely been without football drama, isn't it?
00:03You know, I think I read that there's been over or around 50 promotions and relegations
00:08between the two, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield Tonight, over the years.
00:12And even though sort of proper success in terms of, you know, major trophies and things
00:16like that is, shall we say, a while ago.
00:19They are two pretty storied football clubs, aren't they?
00:22They are.
00:23I mean, this is the fourth book I've done in this series of Turf Wars.
00:26There was one about London clubs, then Lancashire and then Yorkshire.
00:29And one of the themes which comes out of all of them, in the West Midlands as well, is
00:34that once clubs, clubs all have their ups and downs.
00:39We know that.
00:40And as you've said, United and Wednesday are one of the best examples to the ups and downs
00:46between the divisions.
00:48They have their ups and downs.
00:49But also, once a club becomes a biggish club, in my opinion, they tend to stay there.
00:57If a club is a small club, it's very, very hard for them to make that leap.
01:02It's an interesting exercise, if you ever feel like it, to write down who you think
01:07are your top 20 biggest clubs in the country.
01:11I know a lot of people in Sheffield would have one or both.
