In 2014, Chef Deniz Alkoc arrived in Malaysia and opened his Turkish Cafe Istanbul by October. Those early days were challenging, as many Malaysians initially assumed Turkish and Arab cuisines were the same.

This misconception resulted in some complaints, but he persevered to showcase the unique flavours of authentic Turkish cuisine while sharing beautiful intercultural moments.
