00:00Two more cases of a new strain of the Mpox virus has been detected in London in household
00:07contacts of the first patient, health officials say. The two individuals are now under specialist
00:13care at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. All three patients were infected with
00:20the clade 1B variant of the virus, which was first detected in Central Africa and appears
00:26to transmit more easily between people. Professor Susan Hopkins, chief medical adviser
00:32at the UK Health Security Agency, said Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, could spread
00:39quickly within households and further cases were not expected. The overall risk to the
00:45UK population remains low, she confirmed. We are working with partners to make sure
00:52all contacts of the cases are identified and contacted to reduce the risk of further
00:58spread, she added.
