00:00I'm in Carrington where this afternoon Manchester United have held a pre-match press conference
00:03ahead of the Europa League game against PAOK. Of course the big talking point with Ruben
00:07Nistelrooy in interim charge is already thinking about Ruben Amerin coming in, especially given
00:12last night's pretty impressive victory over Manchester City in the Champions League with
00:16Sporting. Obviously both Van Nistelrooy and Andre Onana who held the press conference
00:20were asked about that game. Onana said that he did watch it and did confirm that in his
00:24eyes that United and the players will be able to adapt to Amerin's 3-4-3 system. That's
00:29been a big talking point about United in the last couple of weeks, how the players will
00:32adjust to that shape because the personnel maybe doesn't look like it quite matches up
00:37but Amerin said that the players are pragmatic, the squad can deal with those changes. That
00:40was really interesting, the first player to actually come out and talk or be asked about
00:43those changes that Amerin is expected to bring. But one thing we know for certain as well
00:48about Amerin is that he still hasn't reached out to speak to Ruben Nistelrooy. Of course
00:52Van Nistelrooy is in interim charge for the next couple of games against PAOK and against
00:57Leicester City at the weekend. Amerin coming in and starting next Monday. Van Nistelrooy
01:00has been pretty open about the fact that he wants to remain part of Amerin's coaching
01:04staff but so far hasn't actually heard from the Sporting Lisbon manager. Perhaps that
01:07will wait until next week given that he is still Sporting Manager until Sunday. But Van
01:13Nistelrooy at the moment has been no contact, reiterating his view that he wants to play
01:17a part and to continue to help United going forward. He also had a couple of interesting
01:23injury updates. Lenny Yarrow was back in training here this afternoon, the first time that he
01:26has been seen working with the team since suffering that broken metatarsal in the summer.
01:31He's not going to be near the first-team squad, certainly for the next two games at least,
01:34but at least he is coming back and he should be an option for Amerin at Senderbeck. He
01:39also confirmed Ruben Nistelrooy that Tyrone Malasia is getting closer back to his return.
01:43Of course he hasn't played since May 2022, the FA Cup final, defeat to Manchester City.
01:48Such a long absence but confirmed that he's getting closer to perhaps having a couple
01:52of minutes for the under-21s and also confirmed that Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are stepping
01:56up their recovery from injury in what was quite an interesting press conference ahead
02:01of the game. Certainly interesting to see just where United are at at the moment with
02:06all the uncertainty surrounding Nistelrooy's future and of course gearing up for Amerin
02:10coming in next week.
