00:00 I'm at Old Trafford where Manchester United crashed out of Europe tonight after a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.
00:07 It was a game that promised so much. I think so many fans coming to this stadium beforehand were excited.
00:11 Eric Ten Hag told his players to be brave, but in truth they never really showed up.
00:15 This was just such an underwhelming display from Manchester United who, devoid of any form of creativity,
00:21 just simply could not break Bayern down or really offer any form of attack in threat or impetus throughout the game.
00:27 It was the first half that they had got on the ball and created a couple of openings in the wide areas,
00:31 but poor decision making from Anthony and Alejandro Garnaccio meant that they couldn't make the most of it,
00:37 couldn't breach that Bayern Munich defence. Bayern, in truth, playing in second gear,
00:42 created a couple of half chances in the first half and at the start of the second half.
00:45 But United in that second period just didn't show up after half-time.
00:48 It was almost as if they were just waiting for the right opportunity,
00:53 but that was never going to come the way United were playing. It was so flat, so disappointing.
00:58 I mean, the crowd in here were getting behind them in the first half,
01:01 but by the second half you could hear the frustration amongst the fans.
01:05 They wanted the players to give them something to be enthusiastic about, but they just didn't show up.
01:09 This was pathetic really from United in terms of their desire and their just ability on the ball.
01:17 And it was Kingsley Coman who got the only goal of the game. Fantastic work from him.
01:20 Manchester City wriggle in between, Scott McTominay dropping an armour at bat.
01:24 The ball came to Harry Kane, a lovely reverse pass behind the United defence.
01:28 Johnny Evans pulled out his centre-back and Coman had all the time in the world to look up,
01:32 pick his corner and slot the ball past Andre Onana.
01:34 At 1-0 you thought, well, there surely will be a response from Manchester United, but no.
01:38 In fact, it was Bayern Munich who had the chances after that.
01:41 I think they had three shots after they took the lead.
01:45 United managed one shot in the whole of the second half.
01:48 So disappointed from Eric Ten Hag and Manchester United.
01:51 It means not only are they out of the Champions League, but they're out of Europe altogether now.
01:55 This is the first time since 2005 they've failed to make it out of a European group.
02:00 And it ends what has been a really disappointing and pretty atrocious Champions League campaign.
02:06 If I'm honest, of the six games they've picked up four points,
02:10 they've not really controlled any of the games they've played in the competition this season.
02:16 It's been football that's been dictated by the opposition.
02:19 It's been performances that have relied on...
02:24 I don't know really. There's been no coordination in those performances.
02:29 There's no sense of United dictating and dominating games.
02:33 They've got what they deserved in the end. They've crashed out.
02:36 So many performances have been defensively weak.
02:39 In a game like tonight where the opposition just sit deep,
02:41 they can't even sit deep, but are well organised, they just can't break them down.
02:44 Overall, United, there's just so many areas they have to improve.
02:47 When you look at the players they've brought on, two defenders, Johnny Evans and Aaron Wambasaka.
02:53 And then three relatively untested players, Hannibal, Wakunda Polistri, Kobi Mianu.
02:58 I think that says a lot. I think that says a lot where United are at, in truth.
03:02 And the only other thing to add is that, add to the disappointment,
03:05 is that United picked up two defensive injuries tonight.
03:07 Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw both going off with knocks.
03:10 Maguire going off in the first half seemed to be a groin.
03:12 Luke Shaw talking the press box into hamstring injury, don't know that for certain though.
03:16 And that just compounds matters on such an underwhelming night for Manchester United.
