00:00Let's find out the story of Joey Maida, our fellow countryman who is also a pioneer in the country of Japan.
00:06What are his experiences and how did he get to where he is now?
00:11Let's watch this.
00:14Japan is one of the most developed economies in the world.
00:18The transportation system is good.
00:21People are disciplined.
00:23Life is clean and reliable.
00:26That's why many Filipinos choose to live here.
00:32Joey Maida is one of the businessmen here.
00:36Joey had a hard life in Tagong City.
00:39Although he is still a minor, he needs to work and study at the same time.
00:46When I was in school, there was a banana plantation there.
01:03We used to carry the rejects there even though they were heavy.
01:10After elementary school, Joey became a housewife to help his younger siblings.
01:18I'm like a mother and father to our family.
01:21When he was given the opportunity to go abroad, he decided to go to Japan as a talent at the age of 19.
01:29I was so sad when I came to Japan for the first time.
01:35I was so depressed and sad.
01:39I think many people have experienced that.
01:43Sometimes, I was bullied.
01:45They call me a special person.
01:47They call me a killjoy.
01:49I couldn't face my friends.
01:51All I could think about was my family.
01:53I was like, am I not myself anymore?
01:58Joey doubled his salary.
02:00He focused on his career.
02:02He started looking for a job.
02:04I went through the lowest job in Japan.
02:08I worked in the garbage, in hotels.
02:12I was a cleaner, something like that.
02:14He built his own business step by step.
02:18I used to be an entertainer.
02:24I built my own business with my partner.
02:32Joey also entered the cosmetics industry, skills training center, and massage therapy.
02:38My goal is that if I'm not satisfied with what I'm doing, it's another learning.
02:45It's never-ending.
02:47It's better if you learn a lot.
02:49In Japan, if you only learn one or two things, it's not enough.
02:55But Joey faced a big challenge when COVID-19 hit.
02:59COVID-19 was a big loss for me.
03:02Almost all of my businesses went bankrupt.
03:07I was really down at that time.
03:11The envy from his fellow Filipinos in Japan also challenged him.
03:15It's really hard to judge a person.
03:18For example, for me, now that I'm famous, they don't know what I've been through.
03:24They don't know my story.
03:26Why did I become like this?
03:28But he didn't give up.
03:30Because of his kindness and the help of his Japanese friends, Joey was able to get back on his feet.
03:36When COVID-19 hit, I asked them for help.
03:43I asked them to help me.
03:47And they helped me.
03:49They even helped me with my bank account.
03:51I was able to get back on my feet.
03:54It's really nice to have kindness in your heart.
04:00Because God is in your heart.
04:03In his recovery, he shared all the victories with his family.
04:08All of my victories, I shared them with my family.
