00:00The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority held its first summit on solid waste management.
00:07The details are reported by Jenny Redd of the Philippine Information Agency, NCR.
00:15The garbage thrown on the streets of Metro Manila is smelly, messy, and not organized.
00:20This is despite the repeated reminders of the authorities on the proper time to throw garbage.
00:27This is what the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, or MMDA, wanted in their first Road to Zero Waste Summit in the country
00:35that was held on November 5 to 6 in the UNILA Bayanihan Center in Pasig City.
00:39Through the summit, the agency targeted to build a comprehensive 10-year Road to Zero Waste Plan
00:46that wanted to start a change in the way Filipinos throw garbage.
00:51Its goal is to promote and improve the ways in solid waste management
00:56towards a sustainable and circular economy.
00:59More than 300 people participated in the summit
01:01where various products made from garbage and technologies that use solid waste as raw material were exhibited.
01:09For Ma'am Theresa of Barangay 870 of Manila City,
01:12she agrees with the long-term positive results that this event could bring to their community.
01:19The long-term effect will be that we will be able to reduce the amount of garbage that we throw.
01:27We will just learn how to recycle.
01:30There will be a lot of help that can be provided to us.
01:33We will be able to lessen the amount of waste that we throw.
01:39MMDA Chairperson Romando Artes gave the D.E. the need for the joint assistance of the government,
01:45private sector, and individuals to solve the problem of garbage in the region.
01:50We are one of the biggest sources of plastic pollution in our oceans.
01:59The problem of garbage is not only a problem of the government,
02:05it is a problem of everyone.
02:07And it cannot be solved if the government is the only one we rely on.
02:13We need the help of everyone, the private sector, and especially the community.
02:20Through this summit, MMDA hopes that more Filipinos will be encouraged to support the aim of a cleaner Metro Manila.
02:31From the PIA National Capital Region, this is Jenny Red for Balitang Pampansa.
