07 November - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there, it's been a lovely day across northern Scotland, parts of northern and western Wales,
00:06northern England and north Devon and Cornwall and we keep some cloud breaks overnight but
00:12for the vast majority where we've seen grey skies during Thursday we keep those cloudy
00:17skies overnight.
00:19A lot of low cloud covering the hills in the west with some drizzle and where we've got
00:23the cloud of course it's going to stay mild with temperatures dipping to 8 to 12 Celsius
00:28but where we do have the clear spells and again the most reliable place for clear spells
00:31northern Scotland, that's where temperatures will dip into the low single figures, perhaps
00:35a touch of frost in one or two spots and again that's the best place for sunshine on Friday.
00:41Similar locations as well compared with Thursday, northern England, parts of north Wales, north
00:46Devon, cloud breaks will come and go but on the whole it's generally overcast skies once
00:52again.
00:53The cloud lowest in the west and we've got this fresh southeasterly breeze that's going
00:58to bring some drizzle to parts of Devon and Cornwall for example into northern Ireland,
01:02western Scotland.
01:04So a dreary afternoon for many but for some bright blue skies once again and feeling warm
01:09where we do have that sunshine in for example northern Scotland, 15 or 16 Celsius, a cooler
01:15day elsewhere, low teens or even a little lower than that.
01:19Increasingly it does turn damp overnight on Friday night, especially across the south
01:25and the west.
01:26The air is moistening as weather fronts start to advance from the west but it's a colder
01:32start to Saturday with temperatures in the mid single figures generally and again a touch
01:36of frost where we do have some clear spells, mildest towards the southwest.
01:41But it's in the southwest where again we've got those gloomy skies first thing, outbreaks
01:45of rain and drizzle increasingly arriving from the west.
01:49These Atlantic fronts are pushing in against high pressure so they're weakening but they
01:54are going to bring a damp day for many western parts, drier towards the east, brighter skies
01:59once again, parts of northern England and northern Scotland.
02:03What a cold feel, particularly where we've got the grey leaden skies, 9 to 11 Celsius
02:08at best, 14 towards the southwest albeit with drizzly rain at times.
02:14The weather fronts that I mentioned gather pace and move in on Saturday night bringing
02:18a spell of more persistent rain particularly towards the northwest and some strong winds
02:23but as they clear through high pressure builds back in.
02:25However this is a cleaner high, it contains less cloud and so for Monday apart from the
02:31far south and southwest brighter, bluer skies are expected.
