00:04How long have you been the landlady?
00:07I've been here for, this is my second week now, and everything's going great so far.
00:14What made you want to do this job in Ripley?
00:19So my nana, she owned hotels and pubs throughout my whole life, so I've always been in and out of pubs, it's always been in my blood.
00:27My nana was a great landlady, she ran them superbly throughout London, Liverpool, Utoxeter.
00:35I've always loved being in the pub industry, you get to speak to different people, you get to see different people.
00:42I'm a residential surveyor by trade, but I came out of doing that to be a landlady,
00:48just because I love to hear different people's stories, their life events, especially the old people,
00:53sometimes it's their only conversation, and to retell their stories, honestly I just love it,
00:59it's just meeting new people every day, it's just something that I'm passionate about, and bringing the community together as well.
01:06Whereabouts are you from originally?
01:08I'm from Cheleston in Derby.
01:10So what's your plans for the pub?
01:12My plans are to give it the TLC and love that it needs, bring it back up, bring the spirits back up,
01:19push events that can bring the community together, so different things.
01:23We've got coming up a hog roast, a murder mystery night, we've got a mediumship night coming up,
01:30which will all be on the Three Horseshoes Facebook page, just loads of things that can bring the community together.
01:39I'm collecting coats at the moment for rough sleepers, so that we can hand them out,
01:45they may not be able to afford a new coat this year, so we're doing that to give back to the community.
01:51We've got Remembrance Sunday, where we've got free food on for the veterans,
01:56as they do a big parade for Remembrance Sunday around here, and it's something that's quite close to my heart as well.
02:03But my main goal is to just have a community pub and keep that pub spirit alive,
02:09and what the pubs used to be, is to keep that alive and keep that going for as long as possible, really.
02:16We've got ales, which are big seller hits here, so we have the Theakstons, Old Peculiar, XB and Lightfoot.
02:24The old boys absolutely love that, so it's important for me to make sure that we have good ale on and we don't run out.
02:31We're quite cheap as well for our beer here, which is good, which I love,
02:36and that's what I want to do, is keep the prices where they are, especially at the cost of living at the moment.
02:41Some places you go to, you can pay over £5 or £6 a pint, whereas I think our most expensive pint is £4.70,
02:48and that's for a beer moretti, whereas your standard beers, Fosters, Carlin, are £2.60,
02:56and Red Stripes £3.70, Cruise Campo £3.70.
03:01So we're really cheap and that's what I want to keep, is the prices down,
03:05so that everyone can come out and enjoy a couple of drinks and socialise with their friends and get out.
03:11What is the most popular drink you're selling?
03:14Fosters and Old Peculiar, they love that.
03:20How many staff work here?
03:22Six, and they're all amazing.
03:25Honestly, they are an absolute asset to the team, every single one of them are.
03:30We do sell cobs, though, and the cobs are locally sourced.
03:34Again, we're keeping the community together, which are from Jack's, who has a fish and chip shop in Summercoats, I believe.
03:42We go through like 20 cobs a day.
03:45They sell out, the older people love it, and a lot of people come in, get a drink on the way home,
03:51and take a cob home for work in the morning, or we have people come in and say,
03:55get a cob for work in the lunchtime.
03:57So it's good just to, again, keep the community together.
04:01It keeps them coming in and talking to people that they might not have seen for a while.
