00:00Stephen Jones joins you now. Here it is, the GBAC Nation on 105.3 The Fan. Good afternoon,
00:20sir. How the heck are you?
00:22Doing good, guys. How you doing?
00:24Oh, we're doing great. We were just talking about Overshawn here in his first season in
00:28the NFL since the injury last year. Would you say brightest spot on the defense? How
00:32would you weigh in on that topic?
00:34Well, certainly he is one of the bright spots. You know, obviously with us having all our
00:40injuries and missing some of our, you know, top four defensive ends and, you know, Bland
00:47and guys like that, he has really, he makes you smile because he's, his future is bright,
00:53his era's up. And, you know, he's the type of football players you're looking for over
00:57there. I think, you know, Marist ain't going to be far behind him in terms of being a young
01:02linebacker who plays the right way. You know, his era's up too, but Overshawn's obviously,
01:11you know, playing at a very high level. And I think, you know, he's only going to get
01:15better. Talk to any of our coaches, you know, he's, I think he's really got a special future
01:23in front of him.
01:24We had a blast, you mentioned Deron Bland, we had a blast talking with him in Auctionard,
01:28California and have missed him this year. How tough of a setback has he had here to
01:33leave his status where it is currently?
01:36Well, it's just one that you're having to work through. You know, all those, you know,
01:42injuries to, you know, to your feet, they can, you know, they vary from player to player.
01:47And of course he's playing a position, you know, especially at corner where you don't
01:51know, you know, where you're having to react to receivers and plant and, you know, put
01:57a lot of torque and pressure on that foot. So in order to, you know, be out there and
02:02play at the level you have to in the NFL you know, it's gotta be right. And so I do think
02:09he's getting better and you know, it's just part of the process.
02:13Obviously he's got a bright future. He was all pro last year, led the league in six sixes
02:18and you know, we've got two corners out there that just got to get, get going. And we've
02:25got, we think they're the best in the game especially when it comes to taking the ball
02:29away. And it's certainly you know, something that we hadn't done well this year is get
02:33the ball. So hopefully you know, if he makes progress and he gets back and you know, that'll
02:40improve it never hurts though. It always helps the corner though when you're getting pressure
02:45on the quarterback and that's certainly something you know, missing our, our four defensive
02:50ends we hadn't done, you know, as well as we would have hoped to. So hopefully that'll
02:55get better as well. And we've got a lot of football, we've got nine games left to play
02:58and all our divisional opponents, other than the game we won against New York, but got
03:04a lot of, a lot of football left to play.
