00:00The Malaysian Bar has failed to obtain leave to challenge the decision of the Federal Territories
00:06Pardons Board to halve former Prime Minister Najib Razak's jail sentence.
00:13Justice Ahmad Kamal Shaheed said the subject matter of the application was non-justiciable.
00:20He ruled that the prerogative of mercy pursuant to Article 42 of the Federal Constitution
00:26involved a direct exercise of the King's personal discretion.
00:31He said it was not a power held or delegated to the Pardons Board.
00:37Ahmad Kamal said the Bar was in essence seeking to split the decision of the King from the
00:42advice from the Board.
00:45Najib was convicted for abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust in
00:51the SRC International case and was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment and fined RM210 million.
00:59In February, the Pardons Board announced that it had halved his jail term to six years and
01:05reduced his fine to RM50 million.
