00:00The Patriots have now won two out of the last three weeks,
00:02and we're joined right now on a Patriots Monday
00:04by Patriots tight end Hunter Henry.
00:06He's brought to you by Shaw's and Star Market,
00:09perfecting the art of fresh.
00:10Hunter Henry, how are we doing this week?
00:12I'm doing good, man.
00:13I think we're all doing good after that win yesterday.
00:17Two wins in three weeks, overtime loss
00:19sandwiched in between.
00:20What's been the biggest difference
00:21in the team over that stretch over these last few weeks?
00:25Yeah, I think we're just playing better football,
00:28playing complementary football, keeping the pressure
00:33on the other team in a way, and just finding ways to win.
00:39Obviously, last week, I wish we could
00:41have found some kind of way to win that one,
00:43but just to bounce back, especially
00:45on the road in an offside environment,
00:48a good football team to kind of come out and play
00:50the way we did is a big time.
00:52There was a lot made on the broadcast,
00:53and then Drake May even talked about it after the game
00:56when he was asked, but he addressed the team.
00:58He said the offense wasn't performing great at practice,
01:01and then he sort of stepped in and talked to the team.
01:03What can you tell us about that moment from last week?
01:07Yeah, I mean, he's just continuing to come along.
01:10He's doing a great job in all aspects, man.
01:13He's fun to play with, fun to compete with,
01:16and it's fun to continue to kind of grow with him
01:18and how he sees things, how we see things,
01:21kind of mesh those things together.
01:24How would you describe him as a leader,
01:25and do you see him as a leader on this team?
01:29Yeah, I mean, he's got that, he's definitely
01:32got a lot of leadership qualities,
01:34and he's doing a good job of not doing too much either,
01:39just because he still is young, but he's doing just enough.
01:43He's fun to play, I think, through most of the talking,
01:46and then if he has to say something or needs something,
01:49it's usually communicated, but he's doing a great job.
01:53You know, it felt in many ways kind
01:54of like the first couple of weeks of the season
01:56where you guys really were able to establish the run,
01:59kind of gotten away from that over the last few weeks,
02:02but how did you guys feel as far as moving the ball?
02:04I know Romandre's up to 20 carries,
02:06and the team as a squad ran it really well.
02:10Yeah, it's always good to get those backs rolling.
02:14You know, Romandre's a terrific back
02:15and has so much on his skill set, man,
02:20just like vision, power, quicks,
02:24everything that you need in a back.
02:27And so to get him rolling a little bit,
02:28it was positive and exciting to kind of see him
02:32kind of be able to break something open,
02:34continue to wear on them a little bit,
02:36and also just keep our defense off the field
02:38a little bit on some of those drives,
02:40even though maybe some of the drives
02:41we didn't, you know, finish like we wanted to,
02:44but still to kind of control the football,
02:47take a little air out of it,
02:48keep our defense off the field is always big.
02:50Have you ever at a press conference
02:51asked the media to clap for your defense?
02:53Because as much as I love Drake Mays' day,
02:55that might be the one thing I would say
02:57he might want to do over.
03:01I didn't see that.
03:02So he led his press conference with,
03:05put down your phones, put down your notepads,
03:07and let's clap for the defense.
03:09And like one guy was like, yeah, all right.
03:12Maybe not the place.
03:15No, that's the place.
03:16What are you talking about?
03:17That's great.
03:19Look at our defense.
03:20When they play like that, you can do whatever you want.
03:22That's okay.
03:23Fair enough.
03:24How about for the tight end room?
03:25No shout outs for the tight end.
03:26No, that's too bad.
03:27Yeah, shoot.
03:28Hoop showing up big time yesterday, man.
03:29Super cool.
03:30Just kind of see a bunch of different guys
03:31kind of get going in the passing game.
03:32It's what we need, man.
03:33We need to have, you know,
03:34all different guys kind of involved.
03:35And it was really cool to see Hoop get going
03:36and make some big plays for us.
03:37That's fair.
03:38What sort of growth have you seen this year
03:39out of Gerard Mayo as a head coach?
03:40I mean, he's a great guy.
03:41He's a great guy.
03:42He's a great guy.
03:43I mean, he's a great guy.
03:44He's a great guy.
03:45He's a great guy.
03:46He's a great guy.
03:47He's a great guy.
03:48He's a great guy.
03:49He's a great guy.
03:50He's a great guy.
03:51He's a great guy.
03:52He's a great guy.
03:53He's a great guy.
03:54He's a great guy.
03:55He's a great guy.
03:56He's a great guy.
03:57He's a great guy.
03:58He's a great guy.
03:59He's a great guy.
04:00He's a great guy.
04:01He's a great guy.
04:02He's a great guy.
04:03He's a great guy.
04:04He's a great guy.
04:05He's a great guy.
04:06He's a great guy.
04:07He's a great guy.
04:08He's a great guy.
04:09He's a great guy.
04:10You've also played for four different offensive coordinators in the four years that you've
04:14been here.
04:15What kind of comfort level do you see now in Alex Van Pelt as we're halfway through the
04:20season?
04:21Yeah, I love AVP, man.
04:23He brings a lot to our room.
04:26I love his scheme.
04:28I love the offense.
04:29You know, he's got a great scheme and it's always exciting every Wednesday, Thursday,
04:35Friday coming in and kind of seeing the game plan, how we're going to execute it to come
04:40out with a, you know, to be successful on the field and, you know, come out with a win.
04:44So I've really enjoyed being in this game.
04:47Two-part question here on Kendrick Bourne, he was a healthy scratch yesterday.
04:50I mean, number one, you're in that same offense, you know, you're working in conjunction with
04:54that skill group.
04:56Does that impact you in any way, just the changes week to week in who's up and who's
05:00down personnel-wise?
05:01No, I just try to lock in on what we got.
05:05We got a lot of good football players and continuing to build, continuing to get better.
05:10So no.
05:12He was a healthy scratch yesterday.
05:14He's got positive energy, though.
05:15You see it on the field.
05:16We know it from talking to him as well.
05:18You know it as a teammate.
05:19What does it say to be a healthy scratch, but still involved as he was yesterday?
05:22I think A.B.'s an ultimate teammate, he's an ultimate competitor and he's what you want.
05:30Any guy in the locker room, man, he really is.
05:33He brings so much energy.
05:36He's a joy to play with, a joy to be a teammate with, and just, man, he's a brother for life
05:41for sure.
05:42Spent a lot of time, obviously, these last few years with him and it's just a joy to
05:47be around a guy like that and a guy that we need in this locker room.
05:51And then last thing for me, Hunter, how good was it to see Jalen Polk get in the end zone?
05:55It has not been a great season for him, but he gets in the end zone and is that something
06:00that can sort of build momentum for him going forward?
06:03100 percent, yeah.
06:04It was big for him, it was a big play, great design, great scheme, he was able to execute
06:10his job at a high level.
06:13So always good to see our guys get in the end zone like that, especially Polk.
06:17I don't know how often this pops up during the year, but your next opponent, the Rams,
06:21are on Monday Night Football tonight.
06:23Is that a game you're going to make a point to sit down and watch?
06:26Yeah, I'll watch a little bit for sure.
06:31What can you learn or glean from a TV copy versus when you guys get into the tape?
06:35Is there anything or is it more like getting familiar with scheme, personnel, that sort of thing?
06:40Yeah, it's probably more personnel and scheme for me.
06:43Sometimes on TV it's hard to see the true film that you've got to study and watch.
06:48You know, TV's kind of zoomed in a little bit more, so it's a little hard sometimes
06:53to see the back end on things and rotation on different things.
06:56Usually you wait for film on that kind of stuff, but yeah, just the personnel, scheme,
07:01different things like that.
07:02Okay, he's Patriots tight end Hunter Henry here on a Patriots Victory Monday on WEEI.
07:06Hunter, we appreciate the time, we'll talk to you next week.
07:09Alright, guys.
07:11Hunter Henry, joining us here, brought to you by Shaw's and Star Market, perfecting
07:15the art afresh.
07:16He liked the clapping up.
07:17He liked that, yeah.
07:18Well, I think like you, he likes the message.
07:20I just don't think it's really the place for it, is all I would say.
07:25Six Patriots beat writers on the road and the handful that travels to Chicago, the bowels
07:30of some Chicago weight room or wherever they do this.
07:33Dude, we got to try to make our flight.
07:34Can we just get through this?
07:35We're not going to give a round of applause for the defense right now.
07:38Look, it's one of the things I like most about Drake May that we've come to learn over the
07:43last few weeks.
07:44On the field, I think you knew the talent level.
07:45I think you knew Caleb Williams didn't have that as a leader.
07:49Yeah, it showed pretty clearly.
07:50You didn't really know with Drake though.
07:52You didn't really know.
07:53Yeah, yeah.
07:54And then you see it.
07:55And you hear about it.
07:56We talked to Mack Brown right after Drake May was drafted, right?
07:59His college coach at UNC.
08:00Yeah, I bet he liked him.
08:01Well, he said he had all that stuff, but you don't know.
08:03Oh, no.
08:04Every college coach.
08:05We talked to Cole Strange's college coach after they drafted him.
08:08What a leader!
08:09The guy's like Tony Pacelli.
08:10You're like, I don't know.
08:11Don't ask Bruce Smith about that.
08:12Bruce Smith says he should not be in the Hall of Fame.
08:14Yeah, don't ask Bruce Smith.
08:15No, but every college coach always likes their guy.
08:17But yeah, no, that is a huge step forward for Drake May.
08:20And then the result is huge.
08:22He didn't play all of the Jets game, but these last three games,
08:25two wins, an overtime loss.
08:27You can see the positive momentum building.
08:29Arrow pointing up for him and the team.
08:31Now, what does that mean at the end of the day?
08:33The difference in the number three pick and the number eight pick?
08:35I mean, I don't know, but I do think they're making progress.
08:37And that's a good sign.
