00:00Welcome back to this Monday live right here on the early line on SportsGrid and all across the SportsGrid network. We round out this Monday with a solo mission for the final few minutes to look at the second week of the 2024-25 college basketball season tipping off tonight. Plenty of ranked teams in action and some compelling games ahead of tomorrow in the Champions Classic. We'll get Kentucky.
00:30And Duke.
00:31Kansas and Michigan State.
00:32We'll talk about those games on a Tuesday night.
00:35Tomorrow, of course, to set the stage for the second full week of the college basketball season.
00:40Let's look at the docket and what we have tonight.
00:43Will Wade's McNeese State team heads to Tuscaloosa to take on number two Alabama.
00:4920 and a half points spread in favor of the Crimson Tide has actually worked its way down early on this Monday.
00:55Just 18 and a hook in favor of the Tide, who covered in their opener, did not cover in their second game of the year.
01:03And despite a potent offense yet to play to the over so far this season, again, only two games.
01:09Now, McNeese is a team out of the Southland that is going to be one of the better mid-major teams we expect around the country this year.
01:17But they did lose their season opener to another strong mid-major out of the Summit League.
01:22That being South Dakota State.
01:24McNeese was booked as a double-digit favorite in that game.
01:28Lost outright.
01:29Total tonight, 166 and a half.
01:31A slight bit of juice on the over.
01:33I do think we see some points.
01:35Iowa State against UMKC.
01:38They look good to start this year.
01:40One of the best defensive teams in the country.
01:4227 and a half point favorite against Kansas City.
01:45Texas A&M bouncing back from an opening loss this season against UCF.
01:49They take on Lamar.
01:51Now, one and one are the Aggies under Buzz Williams.
01:5423 and a half point favorite.
01:57Big blow for Purdue, as we learned yesterday.
02:00They're 7'4".
02:01Yes, they have another 7'4 big man.
02:04Daniel Jacobson, the freshman from Chicago.
02:07Out for the remainder of this year for the Boilers.
02:10He injured his leg.
02:12I believe a fractured tibia.
02:14He is out for the remainder of this season.
02:16He will redshirt.
02:18Is Purdue going to play small ball?
02:20More than likely not.
02:21They still have Will Berg, the 7'2 Swedish man,
02:24who is going to be there for the Boilermakers
02:26against a tournament team in Yale
02:28who won the Ivy last year and, of course, upset Auburn
02:31in the round of 64.
02:33Purdue a 16 and a half point favorite.
02:36We have yet to see Ace Bailey for Rutgers.
02:38We did see St. Peter's keeping tight with Seton Hall
02:41last week on the opening night.
02:43And then Seton Hall got beat by Fordham over the weekend.
02:46Not a great start to this season in Orange.
02:50For South Orange, excuse me, for Shaheen Holloway
02:53and this Hall ball team.
02:56Might Ace Bailey make his debut tonight for Rutgers?
02:59They're a 15 and a half point favorite
03:01in that showdown in the Garden State.
03:04Now let's take a moment to talk about the game
03:07sandwiched in between the two Big Ten teams on your board.
03:11That is Florida.
03:12They're a 23 and a half point favorite
03:14against Grambling State.
03:15That is not the story.
03:17The head coach, Todd Golden of the Gators, is the story.
03:21In his second year in Gainesville,
03:23Todd Golden is now under investigation by the university
03:27for multiple Title IX investigations
03:30into sexual harassment claims made by students at Florida.
03:35This was uncovered in a great student newspaper piece
03:38late last week by The Alligator.
03:41Again, the student newspaper and the student journalist
03:44doing the hard work there in Gainesville.
03:47Todd Golden has now retained some legal advice.
03:52He is going to push back on these claims.
03:54And despite the inquiry into the sexual harassment
03:57and Title IX claims, Todd Golden remains
04:00the active head coach for Florida.
04:03He is coaching tonight for the Gators.
04:06I don't think that's the correct call,
04:08but that is the call that Scott Strickland,
04:10the AD in Gainesville, has made.
04:13Any developments to that investigation, of course,
04:16we will bring you.
04:18It was an interesting opening weekend
04:20around college basketball.
04:22Maybe you heard the headlines on Friday night,
04:25the Auburn team plane having to redirect and land
04:29as they were headed to Houston to take on the Cougs
04:32because of a fight among teammates on the plane.
04:37Then what did Auburn do?
04:39They go to H-Town and they upset Houston
04:43in a matchup between the two top-rated teams in Kenpom.
04:46Still the top two rated, but Auburn moves in front of Houston.
04:51You saw the team, Jani Broome and many of the Tigers,
04:54flying around after the game, looking like a plane.
04:58They're leaning in.
04:59Auburn is a team to be reckoned with this year in the SEC.
05:04Again, the opening week of college basketball
05:06officially comes to a close tonight, if you will.
05:09It started a week ago.
05:10A huge Tuesday night slate in the Champions Classic
05:14with some of the blue bloods in the sport facing off.
05:17We'll preview it tomorrow when the early line returns
05:208 a.m. Eastern on a Tuesday on SportsCenter.
