00:00The arrow's pointing up a little bit for the Patriots, and I don't know what that means.
00:03You still have the under on four and a half wins, Keith.
00:06I've had the overall along.
00:08I don't know where the wins are going to come, but I didn't have them beating the Bears.
00:10I didn't have them beating the Jets a couple of weeks ago.
00:12I mean, none of us had them beating the Bengals in week one.
00:15So it's a long way of saying, I don't think we've been real good at predicting where the
00:18wins are going to come.
00:19No, that is true.
00:20But it does feel like they've figured things out a little bit.
00:23The last three weeks have been two wins and overtime loss mixed in there, and the overtime
00:27loss was bad.
00:28Bad coaching, bad decision-making, bad turnovers by Drake May, a lot of bad in that game.
00:34But it does feel like they're figuring things out a bit.
00:36I'm not saying they're a playoff team.
00:38I'm not saying they're going to have a winning record, but I do think they're going to be
00:41a little tougher to play against down the stretch, or at least that's the hope.
00:45And maybe, just maybe, again, they've already bottomed out and they're starting to come
00:49back up a little bit where they're not truly the worst of the worst, drafting in the top
00:53five of the NFL.
00:55And maybe some fans out there don't like that, but I think that's now the takeaway
00:58from the last few weeks.
00:59It seems like they're starting to minimally figure out a few things.
01:03Yeah, they are.
01:04And I think also when you see it up against a team that is quitting on their coach, don't
01:10get along with each other, don't play for each other, that team has fallen apart.
01:15And it's still just past the midway point of the season, so there's a lot of games left.
01:20The bears came in with even more wind, twice as many winds as the Patriots, but they don't
01:25look like they're a group going in the same direction, or actually I guess it is.
01:28They're all going in the crapper direction.
01:31They're a mess where Patriots are like, all right, there were some games where it could
01:37really kind of teeter.
01:38Like there was, I mean, their own team reporter was saying that it was a, like a mutiny, right?
01:44Teetering on a mutiny.
01:45Yeah.
01:46Teetering on a mutiny.
01:47What week was that?
01:48But yes, that was after the Jaguars.
01:49Yeah.
01:50And it's a turnaround and, and Drake may is a part of that turnaround for sure.
01:55But like capitalizing on, on these bad opponents and getting winds is pretty like almost necessary
02:02for them to like get something the rest of the way, build some positive momentum.
02:07But yeah, like on the one hand, they're not lighting up the scoreboard, right?
02:10They scored one touchdown as a team.
02:13And yet still there seems to be like a ton of positivity coming out of this.
02:16You add an offensive line, start the game, play the entire game and finish the game.
02:21Like that right there has not happened very often this year.
02:24And it seems like the times that it has usually a decent game for the team.
02:28Yeah.
02:29One turnover for Drake may, which you almost give them one rookie quarterback.
02:32I got, he's got, he's going to have one, but they ran the ball as effectively this week
02:36as they have.
02:37I mean, going back to the beginning of the year, it's like one away between play calling
02:41the line, maybe the running backs themselves, whatever, like disappeared.
02:45That came back.
02:46And, uh, and then obviously they just took advantage of a really bad offense and a really
02:50bad offensive line, but they really, they just didn't let the bears off the hook at
02:55all.
02:56I mean, they were, they were, they were on Caleb Williams all game long.
02:58One update to the bears.
02:59And you're right.
03:00That looks like a checked out team.
03:01Oh yeah.
03:02And the Patriots and Gerard Mayo to his credit, the players have not checked out yet.
03:06We said it in the Jets game a few weeks ago, if they wanted to check out and quit, that
03:09was a game to do it.
03:10They didn't.
03:11I don't know that they're fully in Gerard Mayo's corner.
03:13They're playing for their coach.
03:15I wouldn't say it that way, but they're not totally checked out.
03:18The bears are a checked out team.
03:19Did you see what Everflew said on the radio today in Chicago?
03:21I'm just catching up.
03:22I can only imagine how good it was on ESPN 1000 bears head coach, Matt Everflew said
03:27the team was quote unquote in the middle of the process of that evaluation when asked
03:32about a possible change at offensive coordinator.
03:35So he's like, Oh my God, throwing people under the bus left and right out of self-preservation
03:39to save his job.
03:40Shane Waldron has been there for nine games, half a year.
03:44He's about to get, somebody's about to get fired in Chicago.
03:46They should, based on how things are going, they've lost three in a row.
03:49It started with that Hail Mary game.
03:50I mean, that's Jaden Daniels with Waldron and William sitting on the bench and like
03:53Williams just like shaking his head and Waldron, like trying to get something out of them.
03:57Like that's a mess.
03:58So you bring up, I guess he got fired last week.
04:01Now Waldron's going to get it this week.
04:03Yeah, maybe.
04:04Yeah, that's a hundred percent true.
04:05Yeah.
04:06Gets you as there.
04:07I see the last few years, right?
04:08He got fired in Vegas and now I imagine it seems the writing's on the wall there for
04:12Shane Waldron being out.
04:13So you got a coach fired by beating them.
04:16That's how embarrassed they are.
04:17And I'm surprised Eber Flus won't lose his job.
04:19Caleb Williams.
04:20I think yesterday was apparent in a couple of different ways that if you were going to
04:26redraft, I think Drake may has gone before Caleb Williams.
04:29I think a lot of people in new England felt that way last week, but that's us here in
04:32new England.
04:33I don't know how you can't look at yesterday and say, Caleb Williams has more around him.
04:38He's in a better situation, even if the gap isn't as big as we thought.
04:40Yeah.
04:41Yeah.
04:42He's in a better situation.
04:43Drake may outplayed him head to head yesterday.
04:45Not even close.
04:46And you have Caleb Williams, his team unraveling, unraveling around him where they've quit.
04:52They've checked out.
04:54They're not behind their head coach.
04:55He's probably leading that charge.
04:57And this was what scared me about Caleb Williams, the prospect, not the talent, that sort of
05:01stuff, the intangible stuff.
05:02And you have Drake may.
05:04It was reported during the broadcast that he wanted to meet with the offense last week.
05:09Call them out for practicing poorly.
05:11You have them clapping up the team after the game.
05:13We'll get to that.
05:14Yeah.
05:15But just that juxtaposition between the two, it was a big resounding win yesterday for
05:19Drake may not just on the field, but everything else that comes along with it.
05:22Oh, it's insane.
05:23And Matt Lulemberg on the Twitch chat pointing out my wife might be right.
05:28We watched five minutes of hard knocks.
05:30She's like this Caleb Williams guy.
05:31All she needed to do was watch five minutes of Caleb Williams on hard knocks.
05:34She didn't know who he was.
05:35She doesn't know who he won the Heisman.
05:36She doesn't know anything about college.
05:37She just watched him on hard knocks.
05:39Not the guy.
05:40He's like, she goes, is he supposed to be good?
05:41She's like, he won't be.
05:42And then she gets up and walks away.
05:43I was like, okay, nailed it.
05:44So I guess no one, uh, Caleb Williams, no, I, I thought Caleb Williams during the whole
05:49draft process.
05:50And even last week, I'm like, that's the best quarterback in the draft.
05:51Like he should have gone number one, but I don't know how you watched yesterday.
05:55And if you felt the way I did not be shooketh by what is taking place and it's everything.
06:01It's taking nine sacks.
06:03It's like the body language on the sideline.
06:06It's the team just all bailing on them.
06:09Now he wouldn't be the first quarterback in NFL history to have a bad rookie year with
06:13a lot of losses and then turn it around and be like an MVP hall of Famer.
06:17But if you're just comparing him to Drake May, Drake May was literally given nothing
06:22and you saw what the team looked like without him for the first five weeks of the season,
06:26you throw him in there and now all of a sudden it seems like they have a pulse and everybody's
06:32kind of on the same page that now they don't have, all of a sudden they don't have like
06:36a ton of talent on the roster, right?
06:39But they at least are playing together and they're better going into week 11 than they
06:44were going into week four or going into week five, whereas the bears are the opposite.
06:48The bears peaked probably week four.
06:50Drake May is elevating what's around him.
06:53We might've been too high on what was around Caleb Williams, but he is not elevating it.
06:56If anything, it's looking worse than we expected it to.
06:59And so to me, that's a, that looks good for Drake May.
07:01You know what I overlooked and I, and I knew this information and I was like, ah, I tried
07:05to talk around it when Caleb Williams didn't play in the bowl game last year and it was
07:10a Miller Moss was the kid, it was the kid's name.
07:12Is that it?
07:13It's something like that.
07:14Yeah.
07:15So he took over and apparently the team was like, so like this guy, I was like, Oh my
07:20God, been benched.
07:21Yeah, no, he got benched.
07:22He didn't play this last week, but, but still at that point, the whole team like loved the
07:27backup and we're celebrating when Williams left.
07:29And I was like, well, that's, I don't know, maybe they just like that guy.
07:32Like, no, I don't think they liked it.
07:34This is why quarterback is a different position.
07:36You're right, Keith.
07:37We can't slam the door closed on this debate, but I'm just saying if the NFL had another
07:40draft right now, I think may is going ahead.
07:42I think it goes Daniels, May Williams.
07:44I'm not saying that's the order I'd take them in.
07:45I believe yet.
07:46Oh, Nick's was out doing Patrick Bonick's was taken after Michael.
07:50I think he would go forth.
07:51And McCarthy, right?
07:52Oh no, no, no.
07:53Yeah.
07:54Yeah.
07:55Actually McCarthy go.
07:56No, no, no.
07:57I think he was taken.
07:58I don't remember the order anymore.
07:59Was he five or 11 to the Vikings?
08:00Yeah, whatever.
08:01Oh yeah.
08:02No, you're right.
08:03I think he was five to the Vikings.
08:04Yeah.
08:05He's leapfrogged a couple of guys, but he still wouldn't be in that top three for me.
08:07Okay.
08:08Maybe he would be for you.
08:09So there's a few things working in Drake Mays favor yesterday.
08:12Number one, he doesn't take sacks like Caleb Williams takes sacks because he keeps his
08:16eyes up.
08:17He had sacked once.
08:18Caleb Williams drops his eyes.
08:19You could see this yesterday.
08:20He got sacked nine times.
08:21How many were on Williams?
08:22I'm going to say five or six of those were on Williams.
08:25He's running around.
08:26Oh, for sure.
08:27He's panicking.
08:28Drake Mays much more relaxed and calm in the pocket.
08:30Like obviously.
08:31Mays also more elusive.
08:32Nine times.
08:34Well, he was like running around trying to make a big play, but he's also panicked.
08:38He's panicked.
08:39And Drake Mays doesn't panic in the pocket.
08:40But anytime yesterday you would see sort of like two defenders kind of pushing the offensive
08:45line back and like all of a sudden the pocket kind of closed in on Drake Mays.
08:50He alluded it.
08:51Now he either threw it left-handed and like, you know, it could be passed, which is cool
08:56or would like run for a little bit.
08:58Caleb Williams, like anytime that happened, go down.
09:01Like anytime he was like, go down, like he couldn't really elude anybody.
09:04Or when he tried to, you know, flush out of the pocket, he'd run right into a sack.
09:07And so I think it's as simple as Drake Mays keeps his eyes up looking to make a play.
09:11Caleb Williams drops his eyes.
09:12I think it's as simple as that.
09:13Mays almost had the play of the weekend.
09:15If KJ Osborne understood the rules of the game, it didn't run out of bounds.
09:19He kept that play alive so long and you're just wondering, what is he going to do on
09:23this play?
09:24Is he going to take a sack?
09:25Is he going to try to run for it?
09:26Is he going to throw it away?
09:27Is he going to run out of bounds?
09:28Like, no, he's actually going to throw a dart into the end zone.
09:30And if Osborne just keeps his feet in bounds, it's six points.
09:33Caleb Williams twice in three weeks.
09:34And you're right.
09:35That would have been an incredible play.
09:36It was an incredible play by May.
09:37It would have been an incredible highlight if KJ Osborne had stayed in bounds.
09:41But two times in three weeks, Caleb Williams has lost to Jaden Daniels and Drake Mays.
09:44The guy's taken immediately behind him.
09:47The other piece to it.
09:49I love Drake Mays.
09:50We were going to talk about this before we were rudely interrupted by Christian Gonzalez
09:53earlier today.
09:54We had this on the schedule to talk about.
09:56The Keyshawn Booty play right before halftime, like just the command that he has.
10:00Get up there.
10:01Spike it.
10:02Calmly.
10:03Get your reset.
10:04Kick the field goal right before half.
10:05That was super close.
10:06Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:07But it's a rookie who has not been playing since week one.
10:09Great, great play.
10:10He's been playing now for four or five weeks.
10:12That shows a command and a leadership that Drake May has.
10:14That was a very self-aware offense all on the same page.
10:18That was a great play.
10:19And normally before half.
10:20And that got you three points.
10:21No, they've been miserable before half.
10:22They just kind of fart on the football and like don't know what to do.
10:24They don't know which ends up.
10:25The two times they've been good this year, though, Drake Mays was out there for both.
10:28It was the bomb touchdown to Booty.
10:32Keyshawn Booty against Houston.
10:33Or Bootay, if you listen to the broadcast.
10:34And then it was the Bootay, Booty play yesterday to get them a field goal.
10:38So the two times it's worked, Drake May has been out there both times, which I don't think
10:41is a coincidence.
10:42No.
10:43Then you have his leadership, Keith.
10:44I know you didn't love this moment, but I still like where Drake May's heart was at
10:48on this.
10:49It was dorky and it was uncomfortable.
10:51I still think his heart's in the right place.
10:52This is Drake May hitting the post.
10:54He's just listened to Christian Gonzalez, I guess in the middle of Gonzalez talking
10:57yesterday after the game, Drake may even shouted out at one point when Gonzo was asked
11:01about Drake May.
11:02Hey, that's about the defense.
11:03It's not about me.
11:04Yeah.
11:05He's sitting there with the six reporters and he shouts that out.
11:07Then he hits the podium.
11:08Here's what he does.
11:09Phones down, phones down.
11:10No pass down real quick.
11:11Clap it up for the defense.
11:12Clap it up.
11:13Clap it up.
11:14Somebody else clap up.
11:15So much.
11:16Appreciate you.
11:17There you go.
11:18Please.
11:19So I don't like that at all.
11:20And like, I don't want to be.
11:21I sound like old man reporter guy.
11:22And you know, the scoops game.
11:23We got to protect ourselves.
11:24Yeah, it's true.
11:25But like, they're not fans.
11:26You know what I mean?
11:27Like, they're not.
11:28Yeah.
11:29Fans.
11:30They're supposed to be the conduit maybe between the fans and the players.
11:33They're there to like sort of ask questions and report on the team and like the goings
11:38on.
11:39They're not cheering.
11:40And I just find it weird.
11:41Like, put your phones down.
11:42Put your phones down.
11:43It's like, what?
11:44It was.
11:45Who are you?
11:46It was a bit cringy.
11:47Very cringy.
11:48It was a team broadcaster clapping along there as it went.
11:51So there was one fan in the room and then some media members.
11:55And so on top of that, on top of that, it is a little reminiscent of Let's Go Red Sox.
12:00It's weird.
12:01You can't like starting a chant or even DeMarcus Covington and be like, what do I say?
12:04Yeah.
12:05Yeah.
12:06It was like that.
12:07So he's calling response.
12:08He's 22.
12:09You know, Tom Warners.
12:10Yeah.
12:11Started here.
12:12Let's go.
12:13Let's go.
12:14Let's go.
12:15This is this is my hope.
12:16This is all right.
12:17OK.
12:18I will say this.
12:19It was cringy.
12:20It's not the right crowd.
12:22It's the media.
12:24It's not like fans or boosters.
12:25Someone was suggesting earlier when he did press conferences at UNC, maybe there were
12:28boosters in the room or family in the room.
12:31If he goes on with Heart and Arcane today, if they were doing the show like at a remote
12:35and they were like at like a bar or something, he got the crowd to chant along.
12:38Hell yeah.
12:39Right.
12:40Then like great.
12:41Fine.
12:42So it wasn't at all.
12:43The message is great.
12:44It wasn't the right venue.
12:45It was a little bit.
12:46It was strange.
12:47It was a lot of bit cringy.
12:48It was strange.
12:49But I do think there's a genuineness and I think his heart's in the right place.
12:52And I don't think Mack would have done that.
12:53I don't think Caleb Williams would do that.
12:56No.
12:57And you talk about him addressing the team during the week too.
13:00That came out on the broadcast and I feel much more strongly about that than this.
13:03But it's just a little insight into him not trying to make it about himself.
13:06Did he go too far there?
13:07Probably.
13:08Was it cringy?
13:09Definitely.
13:10But he's going out of his way to not make it about himself because 90% of what we talk
13:14about with the Patriots is him and he had an opportunity to give his teammates credit
13:18and he did.
13:19I'll give him credit for that.
13:20My hope is, you know how on some of those talk shows they'll show an actor, a commercial
13:25they were in when they were 20 years younger, and they're like, oh my God, I sounded and
13:30looked like that?
13:31That's what I hope happens to Drake May.
13:32He has this unbelievable career and then they look back and I'm like, you know how much
13:35energy you were bringing and some of the stuff you were doing?
13:38First of all, look at how young you look.
13:39And then also, this was you after your first road win going in there and telling the reporters
13:44to put their phones down and clap for you.
13:45It's like when they show Brady.
13:46And he's like, oh my God, I can't believe I did that.
13:48It's like when they show Brady in 2001, he's like, crazy high five and people falling down.
13:52100%.
13:53And it's like, oh man, I was a wild man back then, I can't believe I'm the same guy.
13:56Yeah, that's still in me, but I sort of matured, I guess a little bit like that's what I hope
14:00ends up being.
14:01It's really not the end of the world.
14:02It's just, I think if any other quarterback did that, we'd be making fun of him for it.
14:06So we just got to be consistent.
14:07It's a good point.
14:08If any of the other quarterbacks around the league did that, would we mock them?
14:11We'd be like, yes.
14:12Of course we would.
14:13Probably.
14:14But he's our sweet baby boy.
14:15Don't you talk about my Drake May.
14:16Let's go to the phones.
14:17Let's hear your thoughts yesterday.
14:18Errol pointing up for the Patriots, Drake May and his performance.
14:20We'll get more into the leadership because I think he clearly is a leader on this team.
14:24617-779-7937.
14:25Sorgia's in Mansfield.
14:26Go ahead, Sorgia.
14:27Jones and Keefe, how are you this afternoon?
14:32Very good.
14:33So you guys, of course, you guys are four weeks ahead of everybody, like always.
14:38Do you guys remember having this exact conversation like a couple of weeks ago, whether it's more
14:43important for the Patriots to win or to lose, right?
14:48So this is the thing, right?
14:51I think we just run it up, run it up the scoreboard, hit the over because Drake had more confidence,
14:58right?
14:59The only reason to tank would be to get a Shadur.
15:03We don't need Shadur.
15:05We got the best QB in the draft.
15:07And I just really quick here, guys, because I know I ramble.
15:10You guys hit it on the head.
15:11We did.
15:12These guys are not, you know, giving up.
15:15We saw Deebo Samble yesterday shoving the long snapper.
15:20You saw Joe Mixon throwing his helmet or whatever on the sideline, which I had the lines plus
15:26560.
15:27I don't know how we hit that.
15:28But hey, you fellas have a great day.
15:31It was a bit of a tangent there at the end, but I understand your point.
15:35I miss Joe Mixon spiking his helmet.
15:36I'm not surprised.
15:37Yeah, no, me either.
15:38But so, yeah, there was more value in that win yesterday than tanking for a draft pick.
15:42I think if you watched it, you know that.
15:44Well, that's why I think the only reason we were torn about the Jets won was because
15:47Jacoby Percet came in and got the win.
15:49You're like, I need Drake May to be in close fourth quarters and see how he comes out on
15:53top there.
15:54Right.
15:55And so I know this wasn't a close fourth quarter, but this is a wire to wire.
15:58Drake May started, finished the game.
16:00They got the win.
16:01So I do think that's valuable.
16:03Where Jones and I differ is I don't think like the overall win total really matters.
16:07Now you can't just lose out.
16:08Like we said that at the time.
16:09So you can't lose out.
16:10There's got to be a couple of wins in there.
16:12But you want things that you can learn from.
16:13You want some of this momentum.
16:14You want moments like that for Drake May yesterday.
16:16And again, it wasn't a brilliant individual performance.
16:19His stats were pretty pedestrian.
16:20No, they were.
16:21But you want moments like that to build off of going into next year.
16:25And I do feel strongly about that.
16:27And I don't think we've heard as much from the tanking crowd, namely for what Sorgia
16:30just said.
16:31If they didn't have the quarterback, I would get that a lot more.
16:34Now that you have the quarterback, I'm far less worried about that draft pick.
16:38They're going to be drafting in the top 10.
16:40I would imagine.
16:41Yeah, I would think.
16:42Those are a lot of bad teams.
16:43We're sure what happens.
16:44Everybody stinks.
16:45Fine.
16:46Top 15 picks.
16:47You're going to be drafting highly.
16:48And you're going to have a chance to get an impact player.
16:51And I would rather get a couple of wins down the stretch.
16:52And I think most fans now feel that way.
16:55But perhaps I'm wrong.
16:56Perhaps I'm wrong about that.
16:57Yeah.
16:58And also, I think there's a big difference, too, of like losing a head to head matchup
17:01with Caleb Williams when he's playing as poorly as he is on the other side, versus if you
17:05get into like a shootout with Josh Allen and you lose.
17:07I think you should be able to be like, oh, there was some good there.
17:10That's true, too.
17:12Because your defense dominated.
17:13And if they somehow like fumbled this thing away, like, holy crap, like that looks bad.
17:16You don't need to win to feel good about some of these losses.
17:19Josh Allen is a great example of that.
17:21And beating Caleb Williams head to head, that is a good notch in his belt.
17:24It is.
