00:00Some countries joined together in the Philippine International Nuclear Supply Chain Forum 2024.
00:08Here, they discussed the possibility of a collaboration on the development and study of nuclear energy.
00:15This is Quenzel Bocobo of IBC 13 in Balitang Pambansa.
00:22As one of the fastest-growing economies in Asia,
00:25one of the goals of the Marcos Jr. Administration is to promote a green economy or care for our environment.
00:33This includes having a cleaner source of energy,
00:38just like nuclear energy, which is a safer alternative than the plantations that pollute our air.
00:46According to DOE Director Patrick Aquino, nuclear energy will help the continued development of the country.
00:53Nuclear energy is important in our country because if we look at the Philippine Development Plan Ambition 2040,
00:59we expect that our economy will improve.
01:02So if our economy improves, we need energy.
01:06It is already included in the Philippine Energy Plan 2023-2050.
01:10So we expect that at least 9% of our electricity will come from nuclear energy.
01:18DOE led the launch of the Philippine International Nuclear Supply Chain Forum 2024.
01:27This is a platform for delegations from various countries,
01:32such as the US, Japan, Canada, and others,
01:36to collaborate on the development of nuclear energy.
01:40This international event marks an important milestone
01:46in bringing together international actors and experts on nuclear energy
01:54in shaping a sustainable future for the Philippines.
02:00Along with the panel discussions,
02:01the collaboration between the US and the Philippines was also announced
02:05that it will give the Philippine Nuclear Science Foundation a grant of Php 192 million
02:12to strengthen nuclear research in the country
02:15and to train more Filipino nuclear experts.
02:19DOE expects that in 2032,
02:23we will have our own Operational Nuclear Power Plant.
