Sheffield Christmas Market 2024: traders explain the wares and shoppers tell of excitement

00:00Sheffield's Christmas market is back so we went out to take a look around and to

00:06speak to traders and shoppers alike on the first day of trading. Could you tell

00:10me what your stall is on the Christmas market? So we're Beauty Scents, we're

00:14selling handmade soy wax candles that have all natural elements inside

00:18including cinnamon, orange, some raspberries and some blackberries as

00:24well amongst others. And is today the first day you've been trading here? Yeah

00:28first day of trading opened at 10 o'clock this morning. And how's it been?

00:32It's been great, we've had a few sales already, a lot of interest, a lot of people

00:36picking up the candles and smelling them and saying how beautiful they smell.

00:40Could you tell me what your business is here on the Sheffield Christmas market?

00:46Yeah, so I'm here selling O'Donnell's Moonshine. Moonshine is basically like if whisky and vodka had a baby.

00:52We have a great range of flavours and you can also come and get tasters.

00:57And we do also sell our very own, this is about Goras, it's our very own special

01:02name. And we're here in beautiful Sheffield city centre with our beautiful cabin.

01:10Is today the first day? Yes it is, it's our first day today and so far it's going nicely.

01:15Made a couple of sales, it's been beautiful. Everyone seems very happy.

01:20How's it going here at the Sheffield Christmas market today? Yeah, early doors,

01:24only just started, so hoping for a good six week. Has it been reasonably busy so far?

01:33It's getting busier, yeah. It's footfall, it's very early. Is it good to be here?

01:39Good to be here, Sam was here last year as well. What are you selling?

01:45It's my daughter's stall, she's selling pebbled art, so family portraits and football.

01:54Could you tell me what your stall is here on the Sheffield Christmas market?

01:57Yeah, of course, this is Hand Drawn by H. I currently have a book based on Sheffield.

02:02It's about a seal dinosaur, he goes around Sheffield, he wants to know how he's made,

02:07where he's from, so we have that as one of the things I do. I also do the Sheffield football

02:14grounds, so I've got to be careful because we have a blade here. And also I've got the

02:21house, and they're all within the book. And also I encourage kids to draw, so we've got

02:26a lot of kids activities, we've got lifelines here, but also making colour pens.

02:32How's it been going today? It's been great, yeah, I've really enjoyed it, it's the first

02:36time I've ever done it, and yeah, it's been really good.

02:40What do you think about the Christmas market, that thing in Sheffield?

02:43Well, I think it's lovely, because it's lively, obviously, so yeah, I enjoy it.

02:51What do you think of the Sheffield Christmas market set up again today?

02:55I think it's very good, we haven't been to Sheffield this morning, we're very impressed

02:59with the shopping area and the market, we've had a really good time.

03:07What do you think of the Sheffield Christmas market?

03:09I love it, like it, come with my grandkids, and my mum, and my sisters, always have a

03:14good look, and I'm sniffing to the alpine bog, or the sleigh bog.

03:19Are you going to buy anything?

03:21Maybe, maybe not, not sure yet.
