No relief in sight for Delhi residents as toxic smog persists

Residents in the Indian capital New Delhi continued to choke on toxic smog with no relief in sight as the city’s air quality remained in the hazardous band on Wednesday, November 20.

"My eyes are irritated and watery, it feels like someone has put chili powder in them," Javed Ali, an auto-rickshaw driver in the city, said. Another resident said he felt the pollution would only worsen.

While visibility has improved from the start of the week, Delhi’s 24-hour air quality index (AQI) reading was above 420 on a scale of 500, according to the Central Pollution Control Board on Wednesday.
