00:00No, because we didn't win it. I thought, first of all, we played well, and I thought we did better against XI.
00:22The dynamic change with X, you're playing against a blocked defence, which is always difficult, and I thought they did well at that.
00:28And we couldn't find the moments, the key moments, lots of efforts, lots of shots and stuff, but not really killer moments.
00:34And I think it's been something I've talked about endlessly since I've been at the club and before I've been at the club.
00:45Yes, it's not a concern, it's a reality.
00:46It's been a reality for a long time here, and developing people who score goals is the toughest challenge as a manager.
00:52So, you can't develop individuals, you want to develop a team that can score goals.
00:55The challenge we've had this season is quite obvious to everyone.
00:58We were conceding far too many, and we had to change that.
01:01So, we've changed that, but now you've got to stay effective in the offensive side.
01:05So, we're scoring a bit easier, not easier, but more freely at the beginning of the season, but we're conceding too many.
01:09So, that's been the challenge, quite obviously.
01:12Overall, today I'm disappointed in the result, quite obviously.
01:15Credit to them for defending so well, second half, because they've been struggling this season to keep clean sheets.
01:21We've got to find killer moments more often than not, and we didn't.
01:24That's another four goals, is it something that you think you can find this season?
01:29Well, it's been a long-standing thing here.
01:31So, how we find that, most managers do it by checkbook.
01:34We can't do that, so therefore the development continues, and that's what we're looking to do.
01:39Remind players of their skill set, remind them of their strengths and working towards them.
01:44We don't know, we'll wait and see about the continued development of Yousef when he gets fit, but he's a bit away yet.
01:50AB coming in as well, we'll see what he's got to offer.
01:52I think that adds to the mix, and trying to find different ways of operating.
01:55We've tried four or five different ways of operating today to open up what is a packed box.
02:00That's difficult in itself, I mean, that is difficult.
02:03When a team set their stall out, when they're so defence-minded, which they have to, of course, or most do when they're 10 men.
02:09So, credit to them on that side of things.
02:10But it's hard to break down a block when it's right in the goal or the 18-yard line.
02:14It's a hard thing to do, and we certainly didn't do enough to break it down today.
02:17What do you think it says about this side, to come up against a team that hasn't got a point on the road,
02:22there's 10 men for the full second half, and you're probably still creating the best chances.
02:28You pick up those two big saves, one in each hand, that's probably a bit of a concern.
02:32No, that's just the reality.
02:34That's the Premier League.
02:35You know, they're no Mugs Ds, you know what I mean?
02:37They're looking to change things.
02:39They operate in a different way second half, quite obviously.
02:42I'm well aware of the realities of the Premier League and the realities we have to work with here.
02:45So, that's my challenge, and that's what I continue to do,
02:47challenge myself to look at the realities of the Premier League whilst looking at what we can do to be effective in it.
02:52So, what would your message be to supporters who might be concerned for what you've seen so far?
02:55Supporters have been concerned ever since I walked in the door.
02:58They were concerned before I walked in the door.
03:00They were concerned before that, and they've been concerned when I've been here.
03:03I've been talking endlessly about us trying to change the story.
03:06We haven't done that.
03:07We've had spells when we have done it, and then we've dropped away.
03:10And even this spell, you know, was it one loss in eight?
03:13But it doesn't mean anything because we're not winning.
03:15And I don't shy away from that.
03:17I want to play winning football, and we're not winning as many as we should be winning, in my opinion.
03:22So, the work just continues.
03:23How many different ways?
03:24How many different ways can we affect games?
03:26How many different players can we use?
03:27How many different styles can we use?
03:29You know, this season, we're trying to affect it with the ball, and we're opening up, and then we conceded too many goals.
03:34So, we have to tighten up.
03:35Then we go long, and we're not as effective as we'd like.
03:37Then we play, and we played a lot today, but we didn't really be effective.
03:39So, it's searching.
03:40That's what managers do.
03:41We search for the right moments that can win you games and make you more effective.
03:47Of course, it's mine.
03:48That's what managers do.
03:49I'm well aware of that.
03:51You know, mine, my staff's, the players, we're all combining with responsibility.
03:56But it's mine inevitably, and I have no problem with that, no issue with it at all.
04:00Sean, you said earlier that you think we're winning enough games.
04:05Have you been able to pinpoint what's changed this season from last season?
04:09We weren't winning enough games last season until the last five or six.
04:13So, you know, the challenge has been, if you look at the recent years of this football club,
04:18it's never been winning loads of football matches.
04:19So, you're talking about changing a whole sort of recent history, and I've been trying to do that,
04:24and the players have been trying that, my staff as well.
04:27Going through some tough challenges along the way.
04:28We all know about them.
04:30This season, we were hoping to start better.
04:32We didn't.
04:33Now we've got to correct it and keep making moves forwards.
04:36You know, and that's the thing, we're constantly challenged.
04:38Can we make the team move forwards?
04:40Can we develop these players who are coming in with not as much Premier League experience?
04:44Can we use the ones with experience to better effect?
04:47And we're just constantly trying to find the right mixture.
04:49And that's what you do.
04:50That's what our job is.
04:51That's my responsibility, finding the right mixture that can win more games.
04:55The team is used to having less support sometimes from the opposition.
05:00So, I just wondered, what did you have to change at half-time?
05:03How often do you work on that?
05:04We had more of the ball at West Ham, which in away games is indifferent for us.
05:09You know, it's not always the case.
05:11We had more of the ball today.
05:12When you've got more of the ball, it's how quick your tempo is,
05:15how quickly you can affect the opposition.
05:16You know, can you find the key moments?
05:18Usually, clever players in the front third find the key moments.
05:22If you can't find that, can you cross it?
05:23Can you head it? And all them basics.
05:25I think Beto has a big chance.
05:26I think another one's a good block, to be fair from them.
05:29I think Ili has a chance on the back stick.
05:30Dwight has a couple of breakaway moments.
05:32They're all things that count in a football match, you know,
05:34and if they go in, it changes it.
05:36But today, I thought, because I don't want to change my rules,
05:39we've had less chances, but more effective chances, and not taken them.
05:42So, they've had lots of chances, but I didn't think there was too many effective.
05:45Apart from the ones I've just mentioned, there weren't too many where you went,
05:47oh, that's a golden chance.
05:49So, that's something that we have done.
05:51They're not taking chances, whereas today, I don't think we found them true chances.
05:55But I must say, I thought the first half, I thought we were very good.
05:58I thought we dominated mostly.
06:00They're a team that do come out of the blocks quick.
06:01Everyone knows that.
06:02They're searching a way to try and change it themselves.
06:05And I thought the first half was a really decent performance.
06:07Second half, it was flat and it just lost that edge
06:10and that moment of quality that is so important.
06:12Then the team get nervous, the stadium gets nervous,
06:15which we've experienced before.
06:16And I spoke to the players about the growth of them as well.
06:18That's the demand here.
06:19I know it, they know it.
06:20And it's handling that and then still playing with the freedom
06:23to go and open teams up.
06:25And it was difficult today.
06:26And after today, might that mean that you need to work more on how to attack against them?
06:32We've been working endlessly since I've been here to how we attack better.
06:35It's simple as that.
06:36Like I said, I've been at a club like this previously,
06:39where it's not about the checkbook.
06:40We have to constantly work with the players to try and develop players,
06:43to have more moments, more talent in the front third.
06:47I've told you before, Arsene Wenger pulled me once and he said,
06:50tell your chairman this, you do the back, the sides and the middle, he does the box.
06:54That was Arsene Wenger.
06:55He's a pretty handy fellow when it comes to developing and winning.
06:58So, you know, there has to be a truth in the pattern of the club.
07:01But that being said, I think we have got very good players here
07:04and it's my responsibility to make them better.
07:07Or if I can't make it better, make them as a unit win.
07:09I'm absolutely clear and clarified that moment.
07:12It's my responsibility and I've no problem with it.
07:15Jordan, have you seen that you don't seem to be able to get better?
07:20No, what I'm seeing at least is correcting a pattern
07:23which started very poorly for us this season.
07:25You know, no-one wants to lose four on the try and concede as many goals.
07:28So, we have to correct that side of things.
07:29They may say we're not doing that bit, we're not doing that bit.
07:31So, we have to correct that bit first.
07:32And then when we've corrected that bit, we now have to correct that bit.
07:35That's the story of this club and it's the story of my time here,
07:37getting them two things aligned.
07:39When we do, I think we're a very effective unit.
07:41We all know that, we've seen the results we can produce.
07:43When we don't, then it becomes a tough challenge overall.
07:46Today, it's just disappointing for me because
07:48I thought we were playing really well first half and second half.
07:50We didn't get to grips with it.
07:51It was a bit flat, it was a bit slow, the tempo softened.
07:55And credit to them as well.
07:56Block defence is hard to play against.
07:57I thought they did it very well.
08:00Do you think goals watching never felt like you were going to get goals at home?
08:05I always think we can get a goal, but that's because I'm a manager
08:07and that's because I'm an optimist.
08:08You can't be a manager if you're not an optimist, trust me.
08:11And Dom had a couple of chances, did he want to score?
08:14Yes, I thought first half particularly, I thought he played very well.
08:16Second half, I found it a little bit more tricky,
08:18not just in the team, as you saw.
08:21It was just the tempo of it and the flatness of it.
08:23We couldn't find that bit of fizz and that bit of a moment.
08:26The odd set-piece, the odd moment, like I say,
08:27Beto has a header and I think he has a chance.
08:29They get a good block on, but not really them true moments,
08:32not them killer moments.
08:33There were quite a few odd images at the end.
08:36Would you think they were directing that?
08:38No, because everyone, if they direct to whoever they want to direct to that.
08:42The fact is, they're expecting that we win.
08:44I'm expecting we win.
08:46I've got no problem with that.
08:47I've never questioned the fans since I've been here
08:49and I won't be questioning the fans.
08:50It's our responsibility and mine to make sure we did better than we did today.
09:00Get some football, that'll be a start point on Monday.
09:05In midweek, you said there's no evidence that Sugetson died from playing in the middle of half-time.
09:11You've chosen to have a look at him. What was the thinking behind that?
09:14Well, it was the end of the first half, actually, about seven or eight minutes ago,
09:16and I just thought, well, because we've looked at him in training,
09:19we've looked at him in ways, could he affect it?
09:22Could he not? There's signs, but I'm still not sure he's a true Premier League number 10.
09:28Dwight's not either, but I think they're two skilful, quality players.
09:32If we can get them in the right slots, they might produce something.
09:34So, again, just working at different ways to try and open up the opposition
09:37and change the feel of the performance.
09:42Cheers, everyone.
09:43Hey, mate, you all right?
