00:00Storm Reid addressed the criticism surrounding LGBTQ plus storylines in The Last of Us saying,
00:04quote, get your priorities straight. A new relationship was introduced in episode seven,
00:08this time between Riley, played by Reid, and the main character Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey.
00:13The best friends reveal their feelings for each other and share an on-screen kiss. Earlier in
00:16the season, the show faced some online backlash for featuring another gay storyline, that time
00:20between Bill, played by Nick Offerman, and Frank, played by Murray Bartlett. In an interview with
00:24Entertainment Weekly, Reid addressed those complaining about it. Quote, it's 2023. If
00:28you're concerned about who I love, then I need you to get your priorities straight. There's so
00:31many other things to worry about in life. Why are you concerned that these young people, or anybody,
00:35love each other? Love is beautiful, and the fact that people have things to say about it,
00:38it's just nonsense. Reid explained that the identity of her character Riley heavily influenced
00:42her decision to take on the role, saying she's not only representing women, but young black and
00:46young queer women experiencing new feelings and relationships. Quote, I'm proud of what we did,
00:50and I'm proud of the story that we told, and I'm proud of the people that we're representing,
00:53said Reid.
