01:36This is the weekly free show, so we'll do a little bit of a recap
01:40of what was a very fun eventful week for the Celtics.
01:44They had a win against the Cavaliers in the NBA Cup,
01:49giving them their first loss of the season.
01:51They played the Wizards in what was one of the worst games of basketball
01:56I've ever seen in my life.
01:57And I was fortunate enough to be in person for that one.
02:00Glad you made the trip.
02:01They really disappointed in person.
02:03I had five friends come to that game,
02:07and I met up with them after the game,
02:08and I was just like, kept apologizing.
02:10Like, this is not what basketball is.
02:13Like, this was the worst game in the world.
02:16Because they're like not really big basketball people,
02:18but they just like came out because I was going,
02:20and I just was like, no.
02:21It's like when you show one of your friends a movie that you really like,
02:25and then they get up to go to the bathroom and don't ask to pause the movie.
02:30It's like they're clearly not as into it.
02:32It was a really tough situation.
02:33Well, the good news is it was a Wizards game,
02:35so they probably spent, what, like $15 for a ticket?
02:38Yeah, it was fine.
02:40And so the Celtics did that,
02:41and then they had a very thrilling win against the Timberwolves today in Boston,
02:48a Sunday matinee, finished out the week 3-0.
02:53They just keep on cruising.
02:54I think we can talk about the Wizards game a little bit later
02:57and just how bad that was.
02:58Let's not.
03:00We don't have to talk about the game, per se,
03:03because they kept on going, so they didn't know any wiser.
03:06My friends are like, so what would be better about it?
03:08It's like, oh, normally they make shots.
03:10Like, normally the Celtics or the other team make a lot of shots.
03:15But let's focus on the good games.
03:16The Cavs and the Timberwolves,
03:19two, I would say, legitimate opponents
03:22where the Celtics played close basketball games
03:25and did everything they needed to do down the stretch to pull them out.
03:31Things got tight.
03:32I think they were a little bit more of a commanding victory against the Cavs.
03:37There's Anthony Edwards hits a shot,
03:40missed a three to kind of, when the Wolves were down two,
03:43to kind of take the lead.
03:43And Jalen takes what I would only describe
03:46as a extremely ill-advised three to put the Celtics up by five
03:50and kind of seal the victory for them.
03:51But I thought I was impressed by the Celtics.
03:57And maybe this is just like confirmation bias
04:00because they were able to walk away with the victories, B-Rob.
04:03But both against the Cavs and the Timberwolves,
04:08they got up big and the teams came back.
04:10And every single time, it felt like the Celtics
04:12have had an answer in those two moments.
04:14And I don't know how much of that is good luck,
04:16but it does feel like they're very comfortable in that position
04:19and very comfortable kind of sealing these games out.
04:22It is not something we necessarily would have said about the Celtics,
04:25I would say, at this time last year.
04:27Yeah, it sounds like reversed, like straight up.
04:30These are the games they were losing last year.
04:33Like anything close at the end, more often than not,
04:36it would be not falling apart down the stretch,
04:39but just weren't able to execute.
04:40And it wasn't an issue because they were dominating 90% of the games
04:44to the point where it doesn't matter.
04:45But now, in these situations, they find a way.
04:48The poise is there.
04:50And whether that's fallout from them doing it in the playoffs
04:55or just maturation, whatever it is,
04:58they're ready to get the stop they need in the big moment
05:01or just hit the shot they need to in the big moment.
05:03And it's pretty important now because they're cruising.
05:07But they're still, what, two and a half, three games out of first place.
05:10So the Cavs are apparently not going to lose again
05:13unless they're facing the Celtics.
05:14So it is, them winning these type of games
05:16is a pretty big step forward for this team this year.
05:19And the game against the Timberwolves,
05:21like the Timberwolves have not been as good as they were last year,
05:24but they're still playing in a tough East.
05:25They're still a very talented team.
05:26And obviously, coming off the two overtime games
05:29that the Celtics played against the Timberwolves last year,
05:31like this was a significant test.
05:34And, I mean, what got into Jalen Brown to start that game?
05:39That was absolutely absurd just to start the game with five threes.
05:44The fifth one being the most absurd of a step back over Rudy Gobert.
05:49And then the sixth attempt and seventh attempt
05:52being just some of the worst air balls I've seen in a while.
05:55To his credit, he admitted those were bad heat checks.
05:58The sixth and seventh, he was like,
05:59yeah, I should have probably used a little more discretion,
06:02which is hard to do when you make five in a row in like five minutes.
06:05Like that, I think Jalen was brought up after the game,
06:08I was like, was that a record for someone making five threes
06:12within the five minutes of the start of the game?
06:13It's probably very tough to find anyone who's done that in that sort of a span.
06:19But yeah, I don't know, like this game, Packard, it's great they won,
06:24but it also like they were up by 19 in the third quarter and let it get away
06:28and the Wolves aren't, on paper, they look good, but they're a 500 team.
06:32They lost to the Raptors on Friday night in Toronto.
06:36So the offense is good, the defense is good enough,
06:43but it's still like, despite the record,
06:46it's not the same level of dominance that we saw, I guess, last year.
06:52And that's obviously not cause for alarm,
06:54but it's just like the reality of where maybe their motivation level is at
06:57or just the fact that the NBA is just better across the board this year,
07:03at least in the Western Conference.
07:04Yeah, I also like a 19-point lead like isn't what it's used to.
07:10Like in this NBA, you can lose a lead almost immediately
07:14and like on four possessions, they can hit four straight threes.
07:17And so it's just it's an odd thing because yeah,
07:22they've been up big in both those third quarters up 19.
07:25I think they're up by more than that 20 against the Cavs
07:27or 24 in the early third quarter Cavs came all the way back.
07:31They gave up the big lead.
07:32But in the modern NBA, and I feel like you lose your focus a bit.
07:36You're not as locked in and it kind of bleeds in.
07:38You have like four bad possessions and immediately things can turn.
07:43But it's also like kind of the flip
07:44where if the Celtics ever find themselves down by 15,
07:48there's not as much of a panic because you're like,
07:50oh, they can easily find themselves back in this game
07:54just by getting five stops in a row
07:57and going on a little bit of a run themselves.
08:00And I don't know how much of that is just like the focus,
08:04the lack of defense, but I also I think this is like
08:09if we're just talking just trying to like chart the changes
08:12of what's occurred over this last week.
08:16They're desperately trying to find a backup center who works.
08:19You've buried the lead back.
08:20I'm amazed.
08:21It took you eight minutes to get to this because that's
08:23that's the least I'm framing it in a way
08:27that is as neutral and as objective as possible here.
08:34But at the start of the week taking the Cavaliers,
08:39there was a backup center who played a lot of minutes
08:42and at the end of the week that same backup center
08:46was nowhere to be found in the rotation
08:48and something occurred over the course of the week.
08:52I would say many minutes of bad basketball
08:55that led this aforementioned backup center to be benched
08:59in Washington and a new backup center play a lot of minutes
09:06against the Wolves.
09:07I've been trying to be diplomatic here.
09:08Nemi has gotten benched for Xavier Tillman folks
09:11if you haven't gotten figured out what's going on here
09:13and it's frankly because Nemi was bad against the Cavaliers
09:16and like targeted anytime he was on the court
09:19and then was basically maybe almost single-handedly tanked
09:24the Wizards game.
09:25I think there's a many points in which the difference
09:28in the score and you just had to look at the Luke Cornett
09:30plus minus and the Nemi plus minus and it directly added
09:33up to the score differential.
09:34And so how much of you think of like that?
09:37I'm not going to say the Celtics struggle,
09:39but like last year they were blowing teams out by 20 to 30
09:44very consistently and that's because they had
09:48I just had Chris Tapps Porzingis.
09:50They had Al Horford coming in off the bench.
09:52They didn't have this consistent lacking at the center
09:57position because it feels like a lot of what the Celtics
09:58do especially on the offensive end is going five out
10:02is being able to stretch the floor and not having it
10:04really hurt them at all.
10:06But now it feels like any moment Al Horford's not playing
10:09center.
10:10It's a bit of a struggle for the Celtics and that's me
10:13criticizing both Nemi and Xavier Tillman because I just
10:17don't think either of them are like great options at this
10:21point.
10:22Yeah, it's Tillman's offense has been brutal all year,
10:28but and you bury him on the bench and but then you forget
10:31it's like you the warts of his offense.
10:36You they look better now because you forget.
10:38Oh because he's still like he's a smart player defensively
10:41and he's versatile and it took a couple weeks for that
10:45to remind us and for that to remind the coaching staff
10:47on this and I with Nemi's just try out struggling.
10:51I mean he was bad and Cleveland is bad watching.
10:52He was bad.
10:53Honestly the week before that in a lot of those games
10:55and someone said that someone had someone was on this
10:59that was on the case enough to point that out of this
11:01out because he was it was this is the perfect example
11:04of like a young player and consistency of like why was
11:07he available last year?
11:07Yeah, because he like and even last season he put together
11:10like a fun stretch in like November and December and
11:13but then the longer when I was like, okay, this is you
11:16know, we can do better than this and Cornette and Tillman
11:20are flawed players to the degree but they also are steadier
11:24players and you know what you're getting from them
11:26more certainly on the defensive end and with the rest
11:29of the Celtics offense not playing to the level.
11:31They are defensively last year.
11:34Those words speak obviously became more glaring now
11:36and and now it's gonna be interesting going.
11:39I mean poor thing is gonna be back in a couple weeks
11:40anyway, so this probably is not a long-term issue at
11:43this point, but I don't know you can I I'm very I admire
11:49how much you're you're not like strutting right now
11:52because I was on the still potable chat and folks if
11:57you want to be part of the still potable community
11:58and be part of the chat on patreon go to patreon.com
12:02slash still potable.
12:04I was uh, because the Wizards game it was like so clear.
12:10It was like immediately the need me minutes.
12:12They were down and then the cornet came in and they
12:14built back up and just the plus minus argument was
12:16building and Mimi had some really bad moments in that
12:20game and I was on the still potable chat taking my victory
12:24lap as a K to hate a and then people were getting legitimately
12:27upset with me and chat.
12:32Like I didn't I didn't want to flex too hard on my correct
12:36take that he is not shouldn't be the sixth man of the year
12:40as some Legends might have said on this very program.
12:45But yeah, it's just you know what I showed up to Washington.
12:49I was accountable for my takes Mimi walked right past me.
12:52He doesn't know who I am, but I was there in case he wanted
12:54to Joel and bead shove me for the things I put out there.
13:00But yeah, I think it's just he's he's the dynamic like flashy
13:06player, but he's just not consistent wildcard.
13:09He's a wild card.
13:10He can do blocks.
13:11He can he can certainly catch a lob dunk where Tillman cannot.
13:15I thought Tillman had some okay.
13:18Plays today.
13:19Like I think he had a nice pass underneath to Derek White
13:21who ended up getting fouled after he like pump faked in
13:24the corner and drove like I think Tillman is just more of
13:26a solid basketball player, but it's neither of those guys
13:30you want hanging out in the corner.
13:32Like I don't like it.
13:33Anytime Tillman catches the ball in the corner.
13:35I don't want Mimi anywhere near the corner.
13:36I like and so and it's just that's not what the Celtics
13:41offense is necessarily when it's at its best and you mentioned
13:45Chris taps a little bit.
13:47When do we expect to see him because all the clips of Chris
13:50taps and he's like practicing with the main Celtics.
13:55It seems like things are going pretty well, but it also seems
13:57like the Celtics have only lost what three games two games.
14:02And so there's no real rush to have him back.
14:04He needs like why not make sure he's a thousand percent
14:07percent healthy, but it does seem like he's going to be back
14:10sooner rather than later because as he's far ahead of whatever
14:13random schedule I put on him because I thought I didn't think
14:16we were going to see him till 2025.
14:18Right?
14:19I think that like December was the initial target date and
14:22even then I think Choms had a report even a month ago saying
14:25like, oh, it might be closer to November.
14:28Yeah, at this point, I'd be surprised if we see him this
14:31upcoming week.
14:33But after that all bets are off.
14:35I think at this point because if you you know, he took that
14:38was a real scrimmage took part in and against Tillman back on
14:42last Monday and the reports out of that was that he looks,
14:45you know solid at that point.
14:46And so whenever he's ready, maybe take two extra weeks just
14:50to be sure given his history and revving up into the fact
14:55basically as you said Packard, you just don't need him at
14:57this point, but it is a nice little like the team knows he's
15:01like kind of ready and waiting there and some of these issues
15:05that have popped up defensively and rotation wise and who
15:10who's the right matchup against certain teams and just living
15:12with flawed players in the center position that kind of
15:15goes away or certainly goes away to a point where when they're
15:19not playing back-to-backs where you can just say, okay, whoever
15:21is it going this night, whether it's Cornette, Kada, Tillman
15:24like or who has it going in that stretch of games, Joe can
15:27ride the high end of that rather than just turn away from
15:30guys because they just don't have it.
15:33Yeah, and I think it's going to be interesting to see like
15:35what the rotation looks like when Cornette comes back.
15:37If any of those centers get like anytime or is just like
15:42the spot six minutes here and see if you see if you have
15:44it. I feel like if Luke Cornette wasn't had the bad hamstring
15:48right now, like he would probably be he feels like the most
15:51consistent performer.
15:52But then again, he was out today with like a sore hamstring
15:55and so he's not just like I wonder if they're distressing
15:57that because I know they want Alex Knapp Monday off.
16:01So I was just like, oh, we're going to be tonight off because
16:03we're going to need you to play 25 minutes.
16:04We will see but he has he has been dealing with that the last
16:07week. So it might be more than that.
16:07We're going to find, you know, the injury report will come
16:09out sometime Monday, but that will be the his injury situation.
16:14Cornette is he's been pretty durable throughout his career.
16:17But when this stuff comes up, they have to be careful of
16:19him because if not, then the alternatives are as you said
16:24Packard does not like Tillman and Nemi and those are two
16:27guys that you don't really want to be playing regular minutes
16:30at this point.
16:31Yeah, if you're a you know, a wise person with your money
16:35and wanted and knew Al Horford wasn't going to play in a
16:38back-to-back against the Clippers, maybe you'd use that
16:41knowledge on a little app.
16:42I like to call prize picks.
16:43What is prize picks?

18:26All right.
18:28Now, I don't know.
18:29I'm not a big NBA Cup guy and I know B-Rob's not the biggest
18:35NBA Cup guy, but Sean is the biggest NBA Cup guy that I know
18:41and he put together the outline for today's show.
18:44Two of these games are NBA Cup games.
18:46They played that Wizards game on a very pink cherry blossom
18:51court. My friends who came to the game are also very confused
18:54about the NBA Cup.
18:55They had no idea what was going on there, but the Celtics
18:59with a little help from the Bulls are now in actually prime
19:03position to win their group in the NBA Cup.
19:06If they, what if they beat who that they have to beat the
19:11Bulls? Sean, you're the NBA Cup guy.
19:13Explain it to us.
19:15I love that I'm the NBA Cup guy because I can't stay in the
19:17NBA Cup, but that does make sense for me being the biggest
19:20NBA Cup guy, you know.
19:22Yeah, but yeah, so yeah, the Celtics did luckily like the
19:27point differential.
19:28All that stuff is actually like off the table for them right
19:31now. Really?
19:31All that they need to do is they need to beat the Bulls.
19:33Then why were the Wizards fouling down by 15 with 3 seconds
19:38to play on Friday night?
19:39Drew Holiday was confused by that.
19:41Drew Holiday was very confused by that after the game.
19:43Yeah, I don't know what the Celtics are without without fault
19:46too.
19:47They took a timeout up by 12 with like 10 seconds to play.
19:52I think just to juice the stats a little bit.
19:54Yeah, they should have, but the Wizards were out of it at
19:56that point.
19:57Yeah, they need a differential.
20:00Yeah, but they don't because of the head-to-head matchups
20:02is the thing because they beat the Cavs.
20:05It's about a culture.
20:06Hawks beat the Celtics.
20:08So like we need the Cavs to beat the Hawks.
20:12So because right now actually the Celtics have I'm pretty sure
20:15when I last checked it's like to have a better point differential
20:17than the Hawks.
20:17Anyway, so all they just need to they just need to beat the
20:21Bulls.
20:21They need the Cavs to beat the Hawks and then the Celtics will
20:24be in first place in the group.
20:26I also think that like Cavs to beat the Hawks is a pretty good
20:30pretty good bet for the Celtics to make.
20:33So yeah, there's a there's a decent chance despite us after
20:37the first NBA Cup game Packard and I on the postgame are like
20:39great NBA Cups over but I have to worry about it anymore.
20:42It sounds like we they might actually have a good chance of
20:45moving on in this thing.
20:47It feels like the Celtics want to do that after how they showed
20:50up against the Wizards on NBA Cup night.
20:52Like they don't they won the NBA championship last year.
20:56I don't know if they're really necessarily interested in the
20:59Emirates NBA Cup be Rob how much NBA Cup is pumping through
21:02your veins right now.
21:04It's starting to feel a little bit of a pulse.
21:07I don't know.
21:07It's it's there because I mean again, we talked to Drew holiday
21:10after Friday's game and he's like, yeah, we thought we're
21:13going to Vegas last year.
21:14Like we were excited to go again.
21:17I don't from a strategic standpoint.
21:19Don't think going to Vegas is a great long-term play for a
21:23team with that said.
21:26Luke Cornette needs to pay his mortgage.
21:29Luke Cornette needs to pay it off.
21:30I like, you know, maybe he's going to put that money in the
21:33market and then do Bridgeland.
21:34We'll see but it is there now.
21:39Like I said, this is kind of falling into their lap.
21:41The perfect scenario.
21:41I Sean laid out there and I know they won the title now.
21:45So it's like this kind of invigorates them.
21:47Then who are we to say, you know, don't don't do it because
21:52now they get potentially what the the semifinals in the finals
21:56is spread out over like five days now so they could really
21:59like how many golf games is just Jason Tam, you don't get
22:01it in Vegas in the middle of the summer.
22:02Like this is the carrot is very much there for them.
22:05Now, if the they get some help from the Cavs here.
22:08So yes, I'm back on board.
22:13We'll see what if they manage to win the cup and win the
22:19title in the same year, then the cup becomes huge.
22:22Then it becomes like this is how we did the review.
22:25We were so dominant in year two that we I mean, it's very
22:30cool in like in soccer when you win the cup, the league
22:33and Europe and you can like Man City want to treble.
22:37I don't know what you you can't just call it a double the
22:40deuce people when the people want to double.
22:42Yeah, but what's a cool term for it?
22:44I see what you're saying.
22:45Yeah, the deuce is good.
22:47I'm saying, yeah, you're allowed to win two things.
22:49I'm not saying that's not allowed to see we need a cool
22:51name for it.
22:53And so if they manage to pull off the cup, if they go if
22:57they go championship cup championship, that's a three-peat
23:00in my book.
23:04Should they put on the banner?
23:05They put like maybe in the corner of the banner.
23:07They just as like a little and we also in the NBA Cup.
23:11Oh, yeah.
23:11Catch just like an iron man.
23:13Yeah, just a Nick banner 18.5.
23:18You can it only becomes like I don't care about the NBA
23:21Cup unless they win the championship after the NBA Cup.
23:26If that makes any sense, like and so I'll root for it, but
23:30it's not going to pay off until possibly in June is like the
23:33way I'll get that excited about a cup because it's just that
23:36much way of saying we were so much better than the rest of
23:38the league that we won your silly made-up tournament and
23:42we won the NBA championship and it's just like a way to stunt
23:45on these hoes hypothetically.
23:47Will you guys blame the NBA Cup though?
23:50If they win and then they lose the championship is the NBA
23:52Cup.
23:52I'll be in a heartbeat.
23:56Like maybe I I guess like if something bad happens during
24:00like the championship game, but like the rest of it's just
24:02like regular season games and I feel like they can't have to
24:06play one extra game if they are the extra game like the one
24:09extra game.
24:10I'm like maybe especially if like someone gets hurt like that
24:13day or after like if someone gets up any point down the
24:17after the words, it's like you don't know what the strain
24:19was having that one extra game.
24:22Yeah, we'll be looking back at highlights from that game being
24:24like it's probably this is probably this moment when he stepped
24:26weird, but I honestly think that like them.
24:31I think that the Cavs are a bigger push for the Celtics to
24:36like care about winning these games than the NBA Cup itself
24:39is because like Cavs has been really good and you want that
24:43number one spot and it's nice that like these silly games
24:45on the stupid courts also count towards that.
24:48Yeah, and the Cavs have just like that's why the Celtics are
24:53going to be in the Cup because there's no way they're going
24:55to lose to the Atlanta Hawks.
24:56They just keep winning and it's wild B-Rod you mentioned
24:59earlier, but the Celtics are already two and a half games
25:01back of the Cavs.
25:02They do have a three and a half game lead on the third place
25:06Orlando Magic.
25:07So it does seem like there's these two tiers here, but
25:11awkward advantage.
25:11I feel like is it is important in the playoffs and there they
25:15certainly have all the motivation they need.
25:16I still feel like they're going to rest guys when they can
25:18get a chance to rest especially the true holidays of the world
25:21and Al Horford's but the Cavs just keep on winning and the
25:24Cavs were like it was a very fun that two very fun games
25:28this week.
25:29I think the Cavs is just like a fun game of like Eastern
25:31Conference contender that is pushing them to kind of win
25:35these games with that being said were they really pushed
25:39that hard or motivated and I know what we said.
25:42We wouldn't talk about the Wizards game on Friday night,
25:44but they came out with no effort at all on the defensive
25:49end or on the offensive end or on the court at all.
25:53And so how motivated were they really maybe they were a little
25:56jazzed up.
25:57Maybe they were drinking too much of the Derek White after
26:01the White House doing some celebrating in DC B Rob.
26:05You were at the White House and I know the the still palatable
26:08subscribers heard you and Jay talked about a little bit,
26:10but I I haven't heard the full story, you know, it's not
26:13every day you get to go to our nation's capital.
26:15How was the how was the time, you know, seeing the Celtics
26:19hang out with a sleepy Joe at the White House?
26:24Sorry, it's so political.
26:26I mean, yeah, it was it was certainly a time.
26:31It was the ceremony was about eight or nine minutes, but it
26:36was very well attended at least like 500 friends, family,
26:41etc.
26:41It's not as anyone who's a cousin of a minority of a minority
26:44order.
26:44If you named any of any kind of connection you were in that
26:48I heard there's a lot of people in jerseys at the White House
26:51which didn't feel like appropriate.
26:53We saw a J King in a suit and a haircut and that didn't feel
26:56appropriate either but like a lot of people wearing Celtics
27:00jerseys to this White House ceremony.
27:04It just didn't feel right for the moment.
27:06But apparently anyone and their mother if they were at all
27:10connected to the Celtics could get to the White House.
27:12I did see that like the Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor
27:15Kim Driscoll was rocking like a Celtics t-shirt with like a
27:18jacket over it and was just like that was that was her look
27:20for the day and I love that.
27:22That's awesome.
27:23Did this like the whole Celtic or Massachusetts like the
27:28contingent go down from the Massachusetts state government?
27:30It seemed like every Celtics reporter who's ever covered the
27:33team was also there.
27:34Yes, it was very well attended by social media.
27:36And yeah, I imagine this is because again, as we mentioned
27:39so that's probably not going back there in the next four years
27:42would be my guess or slash any NBA team for that matter.
27:47What happened?
27:48I listen.
27:49Can we get tougher?
27:52Yeah, so that I think that standpoint and it was funny to hear
27:58the players afterwards kind of like downplay it.
28:01Jalen Brown said he'd rather go to Waffle House.
28:04Yeah, but then posting a thousand pictures on their social media
28:08like no, it's a cool experience for I think for everyone involved
28:13and yeah, I beyond I don't know.
28:17What did you guys I was worried about Biden a little bit when
28:21he would it sound like you said Baltimore at the beginning of
28:23the instead of bosses.
28:24I thought he said the Bulls won the championship, right?
28:27Weird.
28:28Yeah, false start to start but then he kind of recovered.
28:30It was like it was an upbeat, you know, he made some jokes
28:33kind of update stuff.
28:34So that was that was entertaining from that standpoint.
28:37But yeah, just a fun day good that I think they had outside
28:40given the amount of people were there and yeah, nice to get
28:45step foot in the White House and CJ King in a suit that was
28:48just I mean, you don't get an opportunity to do that often.
28:51Yeah, you got some picture behind the you know, the press secretary's
28:55the only other place you could go on the campus is pretty much
28:59That was the pressure in which is absolutely tiny given there's
29:03like a bazillion meter there.
29:05You're like what it is a smaller than a Celtics presser room.
29:08So I don't know how that works for them.
29:10That must be a tough squeeze in there on a day-to-day basis.
29:13But yeah, anywhere else we were kindly escorted off pretty quickly
29:18there.
29:18So please leave if you want to go back or do you want to go to
29:25maybe a different event?
29:26Maybe a live event that you have better access to you.
29:28Might I suggest the game time app?
29:31I went to my first game of the season in Washington.
29:34It really made me miss watching live basketball until the basketball
29:39actually started but I'm sure that won't happen to you.
29:42I'm sure it'll be a lot more fun to go to a live basketball event
29:46near you.
29:46I'm currently living in Philadelphia.
29:47Maybe Wednesday night.
29:49I'll go see the the Sixers take on the Rockets were very fun team.

30:42What time is it game time?
30:45Now Sean you um, I gotta I gotta take a comeuppance with you.
30:50I'm going to ombudsman the ombudsman here Wow on the outline you put
30:55in a check in on Baylor Shireman in the G League.
31:00I did listen.
31:02There weren't that many games this week.
31:05Tell us what's going on in made up with Baylor Shireman.
31:09He learned how to make a shot.
31:10He apparently can do that in the G League, but not the NBA.
31:13He can you know, maybe he needed to warm up.
31:15Maybe he needed some time up there.
31:17But yeah, Baylor Shireman.
31:18He's he's shooting 41% from three right now.
31:21He's got four makes a game.
31:24He's played six games, but like he's looking pretty solid.
31:27He's got like eight rebounds a game.
31:28Like, yeah, just good to see like development from Baylor Shireman.
31:32And I don't know, maybe maybe he and Jordan Walsh like switch spots
31:37and Baylor comes out and he's the hundredth man on the on the roster
31:42who plays three minutes instead of Jordan Walsh.
31:46I do like the fact that they're bringing him off the bench in Maine.
31:49They are.
31:49That's so mean.
31:50Yeah, that's right.
31:52So like, you know what, Baylor?
31:55This is we're pretty stacked here and you're never going to be starting
31:58for us in the.
32:00Oh, that is actually still like you got to learn how to like.
32:03Yeah.
32:03No, it is like I get it.
32:05I think it actually makes sense for me.
32:07Like, yeah, you know what, this is what you're if you're ever playing
32:09for us in the next year or two, you're 100% going to be coming off
32:12the bench with the Celtics.
32:13So guess what?
32:14This is what you're doing.
32:15And like Sean said, he's like finding some sort of rhythm, which is
32:19which is big for him because.
32:21After summer and preseason, there was really no semblance of any kind
32:25of rhythm, at least offensively, so if he's building back up some
32:30confidence, that's a pretty important deal for not for now, but certainly
32:36for the long term.
32:37He's also playing pretty decent minutes.
32:39I'm going to just have like a stats in front of me.
32:41I think I have watched one game.
32:44It was a game where JD Davison absolutely went off in that game.
32:47So no one pay attention to Baylor Shireman in that one, but he's playing
32:5032 minutes a game.
32:51And yeah, he's averaging 21 points a game like damn pretty pretty solid
32:56production for him from him up in Maine.
32:58So cheers to cheers to Baylor Shireman six man of the year in the G League.
33:02Look out.
33:03Oh, wow.
33:05Do they have that?
33:05I really hope they got it.
33:08I like the wrong thing.
33:10I'll ask my Nick Freeman.
33:12He's now the assistant coach.
33:13Yeah.
33:14How's did you catch up with Nick at the what's what's the latest?
33:16Oh, he was good.
33:18He was he was playing the Maine Celtics.
33:20They had a right.
33:21They were in Maine.
33:21They split.
33:22Oh, they were too.
33:23Oh, I was going to say, how did you go to that game?
33:25Oh, I wish I could have seen some go-go.
33:27I was I was asking around at the Wizards facility, you know, I was like
33:30talking to the media teams like you really need to highlight assistant
33:33coach Nick Freeman.
33:35He's got a lot of personality for you Wizards.
33:37I think him and gee whiz the mascot would could do Wonders together.
33:41I will say Wizards had some decent in-game in-game presentation.
33:46Gee whiz went crazy.
33:48They had a competition.
33:50They had Frisbee golf.
33:51They had musical chairs.
33:53They had a lot of stuff going on.
33:56And so if you're not going to have a good team might as well do good on
33:59the the entertainment.
34:00So good for the Wizards.
34:02I guess I guess it's a sad state of affairs.
34:07It's a sad state of affairs.
34:08All right.
34:08Let's get to the the segments of the show with moment of the week.
34:16Now, I feel like this one's pretty easy and normally I'll democratize
34:22this process and unless I hear any objections, I might just go full
34:25dictatorship, but I was watching today's game on a train back from
34:31DC back up to Philly.
34:33And when Jalen Brown hit that fifth three over Rudy Gobert, the fifth
34:38three, the only points in the Celtics.
34:40I audibly guffawed.
34:41I laughed.
34:42I chuckled and I looked around and I looked at the other people.
34:45I was like, are you seeing this shit?
34:47We weren't because I was watching on my phone.
34:50Moment of the week for the Celtics like that was just absolutely
34:53ridiculous.
34:54I five threes in five minutes to start the game and then just to not
34:59I guess he made some other threes that big one down the stretch, but
35:02I can't think of another singular moment in this week in Celtics.
35:06That's going to beat that.
35:08It's really not in the court and the fact that Jalen going to that game
35:11was shooting 28% from three on the year.
35:13It's like this is he needed one of those like that was a pretty big
35:17confidence boost for him to think and it that was playoff levels of
35:22pandemonium.
35:23Once you hit that fifth three at the garden today because they said that
35:26just for him to do that and that short stretch was wowed especially
35:29against the, you know, legit team in Minnesota.
35:32What do you think about I think he was asked about this after the game.
35:35He has been like like first quarter.
35:37Jalen has been a thing for the Celtics for a while now, but it the rotation
35:43is seen that it's now Tatum gets the entire first quarter and Jalen comes
35:47out.
35:47I think he was asked about that changing role after the game.
35:50He seemed to be fine with it, but I don't know if that's the actual case
35:54because it does seem like that has been a consistent thing of him coming
35:58out and playing all a lot of minutes in the in the first quarter, but that
36:01has not been the case this year.
36:03Yeah, it's something that's probably honestly been the most jarring shift
36:07of the year for and Joe was rotation and you wonder what led to it is just
36:13like more want to experiment with different stuff.
36:17Did Jason Tatum say hey man, like I want to be able to do this.
36:21I want to be able to get into a rhythm more to start these games and in
36:26Joe's I think does what Tatum wants him to do a lot.
36:29So he's like, yeah, let's try that.
36:30I don't know what exactly it is.
36:31What is it's like Jalen that's throughout his career has done the vast
36:35majority of his damage.
36:36I feel like in first quarters and so whether it's clearly working either
36:41way at this point, so there's no imperative shift, but I think it was
36:44I think good that Joe on a day like this decide.
36:48Hey, let's go back.
36:49Let's you know, whoever's got to go and that's who we're going to go
36:52for this first quarter because it clearly worked and I feel like I've
36:55seen a lot of first quarter Jason this year where he's had some huge
36:58quarters score over 15 points multiple times and maybe it's just the
37:02benefit of you know, getting all 12 minutes to go off, but it was
37:07certainly a fun moment there in the garden, but then it's just like
37:13immediately it was erased.
37:15You go up by like 15 to 4 or whatever 15 to 6 and then it's like, oh
37:19like we're down.
37:20It's just kind of that's how things work in the modern NBA.
37:24Yeah, it was.
37:25I think no one else hit a shot on the team until like there's two
37:28minutes left.
37:28The first quarter that the I was absolutely wild, but it's yeah made
37:33for a fun to start the game.
37:34Woke up on a Sunday afternoon.
37:37Any other honorable mentions for I guess moment of the week anything
37:41that deserves credit?
37:44Jake is just a white.
37:45I would say Jake in wearing a suit.
37:47Yeah, I was going to say the White House visit generally, but that is
37:51the highlight of the White House visit is Jake in the suit when I put
37:54that episode on to watch it earlier.
37:56I was like, I was like, I was like, am I seeing things?
37:58Is this is this Jake King in this suit on the podcast?
38:02I don't know if I'm allowed to tell this story, but I'm going to tell
38:05it anyway, because it made me laugh so much.
38:06Jay King needed to get a jacket because the event was so well attended
38:14that they pushed an indoor event to the outdoor event, right?
38:17And he needed a formal jacket.
38:20And so who does he call to go and buy that jacket with him?
38:25But one Tim Bond temps.
38:27And so I just want the listening folks out there to imagine Tim Bond
38:31temps and Jay King in some sort of department store in DC buying a
38:35jacket for Jay King and what just has to be a comedy of errors for
38:40everyone involved.
38:41I'm sorry, Jay.
38:43If I'm not allowed to tell the story, but the body bought a jacket
38:45with Tim Bond temps and it seems like that'd be a hilarious situation
38:49to be a fly on the wall.
38:51I'll say it looked good.
38:53They picked well, but if I need to go shopping again, that's what
38:59that's the guy.
38:59This guy look good on you.
39:02Negotiate a good deal to find a good bargain on short order.
39:07So it was a big win all around heading the White House.
39:11Yeah, that's pretty the White House versus Jalen Brown threes.
39:15It's tough.
39:15It's a tough matchup right there, but we'll give a slight not to
39:19Jalen.
39:19I think he deserves it.
39:21All right.
39:21Next segment is shit.
39:23Joe Missoula says.
39:29Now, he had a couple good quotes this week, but the definitely the
39:32best one was and again, we're going back to this Wizards game.
39:36Everything comes back to the he was asked about the White House
39:40visit and he was because Joe Biden mentioned their points per
39:44possession and he said we're pretty good on defense to which is
39:48Classic Missoula just not at all, you know, it'd be happy for a
39:52moment, but then he got a technical foul in the game and said it
39:57changed the energy.
39:57He was he said it thought it kind of changed it what the environment
40:01need at the time.
40:01You have to make those calls from time to time.
40:03I thought the team is playing pretty pretty good.
40:05It wasn't like I needed to do that, but I felt like it was a way to
40:08manipulate the environment and I just like the way he thinks about
40:12things.
40:12I like the way the man's brains work.
40:14Have you ever seen a coach actively manipulate the environment like
40:18that be rubbed or at least admit to it or put it in those terms?
40:23Yeah, I mean, I feel like I have but now yes, really not playing
40:25times, but they don't say they're manipulating the environment.
40:28Yeah, but over the years whether it's NBA coaches MLB managers.
40:33I can't imagine amount of times guys have gone to refs or umpires
40:37like like teaming up or throw me out of this game right now.
40:40Like this is a job here.
40:41But Joe Joe did I'll give you a credit like Joe does not get technicals.
40:46So he does pick his spots quite well of this like and he he does tend
40:51to flip out when he does get them.
40:52But he has to be held back.
40:54This is right.
40:55It's been held back held back by but you think that's all performative
40:59or do you think he's like because he sounds like it's very much like
41:02I need to get a tech right now and some coaches might be say like
41:05tee me up, but no Joe is just going to be like I'm going to go crazy
41:09and I might make my head assistant coaches hold me back until they
41:13give me a tech.
41:15Yeah, that's what I was going to say is like is Joe the greatest
41:17actor alive because like Joe looks like he was going to murder a person
41:21on that court.
41:22So the fact that he afterwards was like, oh no, I just really needed
41:25to do energize the squad a little bit here.
41:27I was like, it's like he gave himself freedom is like he wants to do
41:31that at all times.
41:33But now he's like it's appropriate now for you to get a tech.
41:35So let your full emotions actually be able to take over.
41:39I don't think any of its acting.
41:40I think it's all genuine.
41:41He's just has he's such a mental Alpha that he's just like, all right,
41:45the normal controls you have on Joe Missoula take him off for this
41:48one 30-second period and then you can lock back in and so that's
41:53that's manipulating the environment.
41:55I think that's great.
41:57Another great Joe Missoula moment from this week before the Cavs
42:00game.
42:01They said they asked him why the NBA Cup was so important and he
42:04just said who said that no.
42:09I was made for at least those Chris Casper for the club asked that
42:14they'd be like, well, like if okay, like you don't think it matters
42:18and then he went to a long answer explaining the his favorite ends
42:22announcement, but it is it's he's letting himself.
42:25I think he's just like the king of you know, bullshitting I guess
42:30and now he's letting that come out more and more whether he's
42:32manipulating the environment or going back and forth reporters
42:36loosely.
42:36So it's we're getting a nice piece of Joe in these these pressers.
42:43Absolutely.
42:43I think he's just and I experienced my first pregame presser of
42:47the year.
42:49I think he lasted all of 30 seconds short to the point.
42:53No one wanted to ask questions palpable fear in all of the media
42:59for not wanting to piss off Joe Missoula.
43:02I missed it, you know, I didn't realize how much I missed that the
43:06weird awkward.
43:07It's not awkward, but just like the pregame press conference is
43:11just a very weird thing that we just kind of do by routine at
43:15this point and the coach never wants to do it because he does
43:20he has a game.
43:21He wants to focus on and there's never like a lot of information
43:24gleaned in those sessions, but it is just like part of the fun
43:28routine of covering an NBA game and I was like, man, I missed
43:32this.
43:32It's I've been doing it doing it so long, but this was my first
43:35time seeing it this year.
43:37There can be a father coaches Packard.
43:39Oh, yeah, just not just not with Joe Missoula, not with Brad
43:44Stevens.
43:46It was COVID when he made was there.
43:47So I didn't have a lot of the situation, but in all my time
43:50covering the league.
43:50Yeah, some you get a Doc Rivers in there and he'll talk here
43:53ahead like pop will go on for ages.
43:57They get a fun visiting coach.
43:59Yeah, it's a good opportunity for pregame press conference,
44:02but not not Joe.
44:05He's a steely eyed business.
44:06He's locked in.
44:08It's while we're on the topic of things I missed.
44:14We I just it was my first game this year, but we had a solid
44:18session before the at the media dining before the Wizards game
44:21of just a guys in the media name and dudes.
44:24What was it?
44:24The 20 2012 Philadelphia 76 years where he went through the
44:29whole roster and you know, it's like I didn't realize how much
44:32I missed name and dudes with a group of dudes, but it really
44:37took me back.
44:38That's that's community right there folks.
44:40I missed out on one NBA media dining and to name and dudes
44:46and so it might have to be a regular turn that into a regular
44:49segment for us.
44:50The thing is Jay King is so good at name and dudes, right?
44:54In Central College.
44:56Yeah, I think he let it off with a solid Lavoie Allen reference
44:59or maybe that was you be robbed.
45:01But that was him.
45:01That was definitely J.
45:02That was a great pull and yeah, then we went down to the roster
45:06that lost to the Celtics in a seven games there.
45:09But yeah, that's a we're gonna have to turn out again.
45:11Get beating J and that will be.
45:14Oh, wow.
45:15That's a great thing.
45:16The competition will pick an NBA team in a year.
45:19Yeah, we'll name dudes and see who can win J versus who's who's
45:22the last person to go?
45:23We'll go around.
45:25All right, you are on your to-do list.
45:28Sean is for a name and dudes with J King great final segment
45:34of the day.
45:36This is the still potable potable still.
45:41And this one we didn't get to cover it in the postgame potable
45:45potable postgame against the Cavs, but this came afterwards.
45:49It's just this image of Derek White furiously looking at a
45:53whole Jason Tatum laughing his ass off.
45:57I when I tweeted this out and you know, I'm not going to do
46:00the thing where I share my own tweet mostly because I forgot
46:04to do that, but it does look like Derek White just sat on
46:07a whoopee cushion that Jason Tatum placed on his seat, but
46:11and for the I hope I'm describing it well enough.
46:15But if you for the people who are listening to the podcast
46:17if you want to take a look you can go to our blue sky at
46:21still potable dot BSKY dot social that just comes off the
46:25tongue.
46:26That's a good way to social network.
46:30But yes people all of us are on a blue sky, but it will be
46:33posting some clips there.
46:36But this is just it has to be the still potable potable still
46:39of the week.
46:40There's look like having so much fun be Rob.
46:43Are you still against the the joint press conference between
46:45the Jason Tatum and Derek White?
46:52Yes.
46:53I like that they had the funny moment there too, but generally
46:57overall not a good press conference and honestly that one
47:02had some awkward moments in it like those two.
47:04I know it's like the chemist they need to work on the chemistry.
47:09Well, how else are they going to work on the chemistry if
47:10they don't get more reps?
47:11Yeah, that's your way.
47:12They couldn't work on the chemistry.
47:13Oh, that's right.
47:14Think Abbott and Costello just had it all figured out the
47:17first time.
47:18No, but that was a good one.
47:20Yeah, so I'll give him that time.
47:22We'll give him the rope there like I they're both, you know,
47:26I feel like Derek White is very entertaining.
47:29I feel like he's a very funny guy.
47:30I think so.
47:31Maybe he he builds up that stage presence more and but that
47:36that was a funny moment.
47:37That was certainly a memorable moment from that one.
47:38So they they made the best of that.
47:39They just need to hit on that consistency.
47:42That was when I believe it was the first time.
47:44I think it was the first time.
47:45I think it was the first time.
47:46I think it was the first time.
47:48That was when I believe it was said Tatum said Al was his
47:51favorite teammate and Derek White was quite upset.
47:56Sean, do you have any Ombudsman moments for us?
48:03No, no, I don't.
48:06Because I cut my Ombudsman in the Ombudsman.
48:07I really put you.
48:08Yeah, you really flipped it around on me.
48:11I also feel like now I need a second person with me for the
48:14Ombudsman section.
48:16Oh, yeah.
48:16It's a practice.
48:17Yeah, it's kind of adding more and more characters to the
48:19show.
48:22We're creating a still potable universe.
48:25Yeah, I think I think there's one.
48:27There's one transition.
48:28I want to show even though we're not going to do this segment
48:30because I just need B Rob to see this and I need the reaction
48:35on camera.
48:35I have to have a big.
48:37So, yeah, let's let it roll.
48:39Scats from B Rob.
48:47See, I knew I said we don't want to say that I wasn't bringing
48:50the goods.
48:51I didn't have the goods this week.
48:54So that's exactly because I got nothing to match that kind
48:56of an intro.
48:57So now, now, you know, now the pressure is really on.
49:02Play it again.
49:03Scats from B Rob.
49:06It's like a very good that I have no musical talent and I
49:11don't have like a vocoder and a synthesizer.
49:13If I had a live, you know how some people have like a tube
49:16coming out of their mouth and they can do like do that.
49:18Like if I could do that on podcast, J King would quit.
49:25I would be so obnoxious if I had any sort of musical ambition.
49:31So it's a good thing for you guys that I don't.
49:32It's a good thing that we're still together and when we're
49:35going to be coming to you with more podcasts for the rest of
49:38the week is that's what we do.
49:39So if you want more still potable, if you want to, you know,
49:43maybe the more people who subscribe, we can get me a vocoder
49:47and I can start doing entire pods like I was T-Pain.
49:51Wow, that that would sell.
49:54I think I think we have a million dollar idea here.
