00:40Oh yeah
00:42I just had to go to a bathroom
00:44I just had to go to a bathroom
00:46I just had to go to a bathroom
00:48What's up?
00:50We're back with another episode of
00:52Still Possible
00:54and they're back, the Celtics are
00:56after their preseason opener
00:58a 107-103 win
01:00against the Denver Nuggets
01:02there was a time there in the fourth quarter
01:04when I'm not sure anyone really knew the exact score
01:06maybe you guys on the court
01:08realized it was wrong on the scoreboard
01:10I thought the Nuggets
01:12went ahead, they didn't really
01:14go ahead, they actually pulled
01:16themselves within one, it was weird
01:18but that doesn't really matter
01:20because what really matters is how
01:22the Celtics played, the developments
01:24the Celtics showed
01:26and I thought
01:28even though they didn't play well
01:30it was still a promising start
01:32It definitely was
01:34and this is, we should say
01:36this is the free episode
01:38of Still Possible here, so you can catch this
01:40on the CONS YouTube
01:42and we're brought to you by PrizePix
01:44and GameTime, but yeah
01:46I guess
01:48to be honest Jay
01:50do you want to start with the starters?
01:52What are the order of operations you want to go through here?
01:54Let's go starters first
01:56because they played
01:58Al Horford sat out
02:00Joe Mazzuolo told reporters
02:02in Abu Dhabi that it was just
02:04managing him
02:06just rest
02:08Good. Which, yeah
02:10Two freezing games
02:12max for him. As small as possible
02:14He's already going to be doing too much with no Chris Dasporzingas
02:16for a while. Luke Cornett
02:18started with the normal four starters
02:20They played the entire fourth quarter
02:22Xavier Tillman subbed in for Luke Cornett
02:24at times, but it was just the starters
02:26early. They played most of the first half
02:30I think
02:32I was impressed by Tillman
02:34man
02:36I was
02:38He had off-season surgery
02:40on his knee
02:42and he talked about how it would swell up on him
02:44last season and how he didn't feel right
02:46He looked to me
02:48like he was more mobile
02:50He fired
02:52a three from above the break
02:54on his first touch and it didn't go in
02:56but he later made two
02:58corner threes, finished two for three
03:00I just liked the way
03:02he was moving. I think
03:04while Porzingis is out, he could be pretty
03:06important for the Celtics
03:08Yeah
03:10I think we never fully knew
03:12Even when they traded for him last year
03:14Jay, he sat out like three or four weeks
03:16because that knee was bothering him
03:18It was just an ongoing struggle
03:20the rest of the year
03:22It feels fine, then it blows up on him
03:24Whatever he got done
03:26we don't know if it's going to sustain
03:28but he looks like a different guy
03:30from a mobility standpoint
03:32A guy that's in his mid-20s again
03:34The Tillman of two or three years ago
03:36was a factor, was a pretty big factor
03:38for that Memphis team
03:40Saw some big minutes in those spots
03:42It's clear now that he's
03:44reserting himself
03:46in that center rotation
03:48behind Cornett out of the gate
03:50It wouldn't surprise me on nights when Al is out
03:52if Tillman is your closing center
03:54if he looks like this
03:56from a mobility standpoint
03:58Like I said, if the three is there
04:00and then defensively the versatility he can present
04:02for his size
04:04on the perimeter
04:06that's a big boon for this team
04:08potentially
04:10I don't trust that the three
04:12will stay
04:14He's always been a bad shooter
04:16throughout his career
04:18He was 9 for 29 for the Celtics
04:20after getting traded there mid-season
04:22Hit a huge one in the finals
04:24but that was it
04:26He was mostly an offensive zero
04:28for them, honestly
04:30Where it matters
04:32can he get to a point where he just
04:34hits enough that he's not a zero
04:36Can he be a little more mobile and finish a little better
04:38Because the defense
04:40even when he wasn't moving that well
04:42has always been great
04:44He had two steals a block today
04:46spent some time credibly guarding Nikola Jokic
04:48He could switch on the guards
04:50It's important
04:52for him to be able to
04:54play well enough offensively
04:56that his defense is allowed to
04:58carry him on the court
05:00I just thought
05:02he looked good
05:04Cornett did too
05:06They have a deep center rotation
05:08which is good because Porzingis
05:10has hurt a lot and Al is 38 years old
05:12but having
05:14Cornett and Tillman as your third
05:16and fourth bigs
05:18it's a luxury in today's NBA
05:20It really is
05:22and Cornett
05:2411 rebounds
05:26I think the only time where things got
05:28ugly for those
05:30guys to say is when Tillman
05:32we got the Mimi Tillman front line to start
05:34the second half
05:36Not sure that's when they'll
05:38play a lot during the regular season
05:40That's why you don't have to worry
05:42You wondered heading into this camp
05:44it's like okay
05:46is he going to push
05:48either of these guys for minutes
05:50and I think the way these things
05:52both played out from a rotation standpoint
05:54in this game and just what we saw
05:56on the floor, the answer is
05:58no. It's a nice guy to have at the end of the bench
06:00but Tillman
06:02and Cornett I think
06:04minimum deals
06:06always look like a bargain and then if they can
06:08give you this in 15-20
06:10minutes per night and more when
06:12called upon
06:14that's just going to be a really
06:16important part of sustaining this team for the long
06:18term and keeping Alan Porzingis
06:20ready to go for when this team needs the most
06:22I wouldn't totally count out
06:24Mimi from
06:26earning minutes at some point
06:28he does have
06:30he produces when he's on the court
06:32and he does have moments where you're like wow
06:34he does some pretty impressive stuff
06:36but I'm with you. Those two guys are just
06:38in Cornett and Tillman they're just
06:40totally dependable and Mimi
06:42is still
06:44from possession to possession
06:46exactly
06:48the start of the game was just so sloppy
06:50it was so preseason
06:52and it makes sense
06:54both teams had to fly
06:5612 hours or at least it was 12 hours
06:58from Boston to Abu Dhabi
07:00and
07:02the practice just started
07:04a week ago
07:06as jet lagged as jet lag could be
07:08it was the furthest away from Boston the Celtics
07:10have ever played. I imagine it was the furthest
07:12from Denver the Nuggets have ever played
07:14so
07:16we were always going to get sloppy basketball
07:18but at the start it was just like
07:20so ugly. Jalen Brown
07:22dribbled like straight into Jamal Murray
07:24and just got stripped
07:26Jason Tatum's first pocket
07:28pass was intercepted
07:30and went the other way
07:34it was just kind of an ugly start but I thought
07:36Derek White kind of snapped the Celtics
07:38out of it a little bit. He was just from the
07:40start just locked in
07:42there was a
07:44play in the
07:46halfway through the first quarter
07:48after he'd already made I think he'd already
07:50stripped Aaron Gordon but there was a play halfway
07:52through the first quarter where the Nuggets had
07:54numbers and he like rotated to
07:56one guy and then rotated to another
07:58and just like single handedly
08:00stopped the Nuggets from producing
08:02a good attempt on that possession
08:04I just thought
08:06and then he brought
08:08the Celtics back to life and I thought after that
08:10that first like five minute stretch
08:12they were much much sharper
08:14even though their starters
08:16didn't win their minutes
08:18Yeah Derek
08:20I liked how just aggressive
08:22he was too. Like he was
08:24when we saw a lot of this last year
08:26when the shots were there he was like alright I'm
08:28taking these
08:30but yeah for as sloppy as it was
08:32Could he reach another level?
08:34It's
08:36I think so right?
08:38Because he was so good last season
08:40but it was also his first season
08:42really
08:44where he was totally trusted
08:46with the Celtics at least where he was like totally
08:48trusted they were like
08:50the end of game minutes
08:52are yours, starting spot is yours
08:54point guard position is yours
08:56and then he went
08:58he's always been a guy who sort of
09:00one of his weaknesses
09:02sort of a strength too but one of his
09:04weaknesses is like he's willing to play
09:06a background role
09:08but then his confidence
09:10just boomed and then he goes
09:12plays well in the Olympics, wins a gold
09:14medal on the Olympic team
09:16I think
09:18that that stuff could catapult him
09:20to even another level
09:22That's a good point and then you look
09:24at the start of this season
09:26and it's like
09:28Porzingis is out
09:30Drew an hour older
09:32and so it's like hey Derek we need you to be
09:34the number three option
09:36and we need you to run with that a lot
09:38and even
09:40from an offensive standpoint
09:42now it's not like oh now you're finding your spots
09:44now it's like no you know you can do
09:46and you're going to get
09:48the open threes but we know you can attack
09:50we know you can set up guys
09:52and we trust you
09:54to do that with
09:56any guard out there in the Eastern
09:58Conference on top of what he can bring from a defensive standpoint
10:00so it is it's like
10:02we'll see like he could have
10:04the opportunities last year like there was all star
10:06buzz we talked about at parts
10:08of last year of like oh can Derek White do it
10:10but then ultimately it's like well no he's like
10:12you're not going to get the opportunities
10:14points wise to do that. I think this year he could
10:16actually have a legitimate shot because the
10:18those chances are going to be there for him now to put up
10:20between 50 to 20 points
10:22a night on a regular basis if he
10:24wants to. Yeah and obviously
10:26the opportunity won't be a ton different than
10:28it was last season although poor Zingas
10:30will probably miss will surely
10:32miss more games than he did a year ago
10:34but I just
10:36do think like for
10:38a guy like Derek White who really
10:40does like kind of take
10:42a backseat sometimes
10:44sometimes that's because he's willing to
10:46do it sometimes it's because the
10:48team put him in put the
10:50ball in somebody else's hands but like
10:52I really do think the confidence
10:54of playing for the Olympics
10:56coming off that year where he was just amazing
10:58from start to finish
11:00could could push him
11:02to another level. I just thought
11:04his compete level for
11:06a preseason game he was flying
11:08around like Michael Porter
11:10Junior when he was dribbling
11:12Derek White was just right there
11:14making sure that he couldn't even
11:16attempt a shot he forced to travel
11:18on one possession where like he
11:20just kept like he was just shadowed
11:22Michael Porter Junior and Mike Porter Junior
11:24tried like some up fakes Derek
11:26White was going nowhere just he
11:28traveled eventually just
11:30just screwed up
11:32I thought Derek White just
11:34brought it he really brought it and
11:36like for for
11:38the first preseason game
11:40for the defending champs game that doesn't
11:42matter in Abu Dhabi. I just thought
11:44I was really impressed by the
11:46the edge that he brought
11:48to the game and I will
11:50say Jay on like white obviously
11:52I don't know the entire both teams
11:54started I think like this was good effort for
11:56a preseason game. Yeah, like both these
11:58might have been they the fact they were playing each other
12:00or where they were but like
12:02this wasn't half-assing it and
12:04the fact that they all knew that they were going to just play
12:06the first half and we got to see a
12:08good like most of them played
12:1018 minutes which is a healthy chunk of time
12:12for a preseason game but they
12:14they you know the game
12:16didn't matter but we saw I think a lot more effort that
12:18we normally wouldn't in the preseason just
12:20based on the circumstances which is
12:22yeah the Celtic the sellers had some awesome
12:24defensive players Jalen's block
12:26of Kanchar was just
12:28a monster block. Yeah
12:30Drew
12:32Holiday
12:34like had some great moments against
12:36Aaron Gordon in the post
12:38Jokic is just so good
12:40like the flip
12:42shots he hits are just insane
12:44and I
12:46thought I was actually impressed by
12:48the Nuggets like
12:50they came into this season saying
12:52they wanted to shoot more threes and they couldn't
12:54nearly keep pace with the Celtic who shot
12:5635 in the first half 61 for the games
12:58they were just a record most in the game
13:00yeah most
13:02they've ever taken
13:04and but
13:06like Denver got them up too
13:08and I think that's really important for
13:10them because their three-point attempt
13:12rate was so far behind the
13:14other contenders and the other great
13:16offenses that it could
13:18be a huge thing for them especially if like
13:20Strother hits or
13:22like one of their
13:24other young guys hits like
13:26and starts to make a difference and Porter
13:28Junior starts getting up more threes and
13:30Hunter Tyson maybe who knows
13:32if he can play
13:34but he looked pretty good
13:36Russell Westbrook
13:38don't expect that to continue but
13:40I did
13:42I was impressed by just their
13:44willingness to let it fly
13:46especially Jokic didn't
13:48even take one but everybody else was just getting
13:50them up. Today's episode is brought

14:54PrizePix, run your game
14:56yeah it seems
14:58and it is and still with them doing that
15:00they still almost took
15:0250% of what the C's took
15:04and so they're like catching up
15:06on that front and the C's were just at
15:08warp speed at that amount because
15:10we haven't
15:12gone to the bench yet
15:14but Peyton Pritchard
15:1613 field goal attempts
15:1812 threes. Just a preseason legend
15:20just eating it up
15:22eating it up up there
15:24preseason legend
15:26he came in and immediately took
15:28a three from like 29 feet
15:30a bunch of his
15:32shots were like from that deep obviously
15:34he just kind of does that
15:36that's his range. The one-two
15:38he took
15:40he created a lot of space with like his shoulder
15:42kind of did like a TJ McConnell drive
15:44and then airballed it
15:46like didn't even come close
15:48I kind of enjoyed that
15:50given that the rest of his game was just splashing
15:52threes
15:54I thought the bench, I wasn't surprised
15:56that the bench looked good
15:58based on
16:00the comments Al said
16:02about Pritchard sort of setting the tone
16:04for the Celtics in the
16:06in like
16:08practices before practices
16:10start so
16:12and we know he's just a gamer
16:14it doesn't matter to him that it's preseason
16:16if he's on the court he's going to be going warp speed
16:18and so
16:20he
16:22he's a preseason legend
16:24he was third on the team in scoring last year
16:26I think it was just Jalen and Jason
16:28and led the team
16:30in scoring during the preseason
16:32opener
16:34he did miss a heave though
16:36he missed a heave
16:38inexcusable
16:40totally inexcusable
16:42but he got the first
16:44half heave
16:46he got it
16:48it was a really really tough one
16:50he wasn't able to create a lot of separation on it
16:52they didn't really put him in a good spot
16:54but the heave
16:56he did hit one at the end of the first quarter though
16:58the long
17:00hold for one though so we'll give him credit
17:02for that one
17:04six assists for him too
17:06for all the shooting he is there
17:08you like the creation
17:10I feel like he was really pushing the ball
17:12we know that they want to play faster this year
17:14and it seemed like it was a track meet
17:16in that first half
17:18both sides were just grabbing it off
17:20rebound a lot of misses and then just going
17:22he was kind of front and center for a lot of that
17:24so still a sloppy
17:26three turnovers
17:28but you talk about Derek
17:30White's next level
17:32Payton Pritchard's next level is interesting to me too
17:34we know
17:36depending on if they want to go
17:38with some of these smaller lineup looks
17:40when Porzingis and Horford
17:42are out of games
17:44just going three guards with Pritchard
17:46at spots
17:48in a half might be
17:50an appealing option in
17:52crunch time situations but just a situation
17:54where he could be pushing
17:5620-25 minutes in those games
17:58because he's just the best player
18:00coming off the bench if he's outplaying Hauser
18:02at that point. One of the questions
18:04coming into the preseason was how
18:06the Celtics would sort of handle
18:08the O'Shea Brissett role
18:10which he sort of sees toward
18:12the end of the last year
18:14he was kind of the guy
18:16who played if they needed a perimeter guy
18:18behind
18:20Pritchard and Hauser
18:22and obviously
18:24he didn't stay in Boston
18:26still looking for a home
18:28but
18:30who fills that role
18:32tonight it was
18:34Jaden Springer and Jordan Walsh
18:36playing
18:38they started the second quarter
18:40they played with
18:42the regular rotation guys
18:44during the first half
18:46they clearly got the first crack
18:48at that sort of role
18:50we didn't see Baylor Shireman
18:52until much later
18:54in the fourth quarter we didn't see Lonnie Walker
18:56until basically mop up
18:58minutes with total end of the
19:00bench guys late in the fourth quarter
19:02so
19:04as far as we're aware all we've seen is
19:06just one preseason game
19:08Jaden Springer and Jordan Walsh
19:10are in pole position
19:12to compete for
19:14those spare minutes
19:16at the end of the rotation
19:18and I thought both were pretty good
19:20but also
19:22the shooting is
19:24going to be a problem
19:26maybe for both of them
19:28Walsh did hit two but I just thought
19:30they both hesitated
19:32they're both not natural shooters
19:34they both have a history of missing shots
19:36and
19:38so as
19:40impressed as I was with some
19:42of the stuff they did at the same time
19:44it was like
19:46yeah but that could be an issue
19:48yeah
19:50certainly with anything for Jordan Walsh
19:52after summer league is a win
19:54today and that's I think that was the
19:56going in I thought it would be
19:58Shireman and Jaden Springer
20:00kind of fighting for those minutes
20:02for him emerging already
20:04through the start of camp where he's
20:06in the spot with
20:08Baylor a lot of people thought they were to be in
20:10I think that's somewhat of a big deal
20:12because that means I think he's probably at a solid
20:14camp to this point where he is
20:16first in line to get a crack at these minutes in a
20:18preseason game but you're right it's like
20:20if he's out there if both of them are out there
20:22like spacing wise
20:24what defenses are going to do with those guys
20:26like even he took six attempts for Walsh
20:28but he probably turned down like six more
20:30like open looks over the course of the game
20:32corner to like
20:34you can't turn down a corner three in the NBA
20:36but he and Springer
20:38both did it and Springer did it like toward the
20:40end of the shot clock and ended
20:42up with a really poor
20:44opportunity after doing it
20:46sometimes just got to shoot it
20:48but Walsh defensively
20:50had three blocks
20:52and just
20:54I think he was very active on the
20:56offensive glass too so a good
20:58that's the kind of guy like you that's how
21:00you are playing your role
21:02with this team like he just needs to be like an energy
21:04wild card off the bench if he does get a chance like that
21:06and that's we saw a lot of that from him
21:08today and what do you have like 20
21:1025 minutes played the most out of everyone and
21:12it was by no means the perfect
21:14game and still has
21:16plenty of flaws but was certainly a step in the
21:18right direction for him and he has some good passes
21:20too there was one play
21:22where Springer actually
21:24started off the sequence he drove
21:26baseline drew help think
21:28Luke Cornette in the middle Cornette
21:30swung it to the corner where Jordan Walsh
21:32was he drove it
21:34fed it back to Cornette for
21:36an assist Cornette got
21:38the bucket and then
21:40there was another one that was really nice in the
21:42fourth quarter when some
21:44of the like
21:46lesser established guys were in there
21:48and Walsh drove to the
21:50paint turned around and found
21:52JD Davison behind him for
21:54for a three pointer
21:56and so you can sort of see
21:58the outline of Jordan Walsh
22:00where it's like
22:02he's probably going to be
22:04an impactful defender when he's on the court
22:06but if he could be that energy
22:08guy and then sort of be
22:10a connective piece with passing
22:12and a little bit of ball handling
22:14stuff like that then maybe
22:16it would work if he's in the Brissett
22:18role and or maybe you just
22:20use him in that role and he's not
22:22necessarily as impactful as Brissett
22:24last season but you
22:26put up with that because it's the
22:28growing pains of a really young kid
22:30who does have some
22:32significant potential
22:34for the most part I really like the way he played
22:36especially after summer league
22:38like you said it to see him
22:40even in the mix for
22:42a spot in the first half of the
22:44first preseason game
22:46that's promising
22:48I was surprised by that and him
22:50and Springer too wasn't necessarily
22:52surprised by Springer
22:54but
22:56yeah that's a good start
22:58for both of them I think
23:00probably in camp
23:02to earn that
23:04not a good start
23:06for Baylor Shireman
23:08not a good start for Baylor Shireman
23:10What was the low light Jay?
23:12Was it off the backboard
23:14first shot?
23:16Was it the air ball?
23:18Was it the pass that he
23:20fired at Nemi's head that went
23:22out of bounds when Nemi wasn't expecting
23:24it because why would Nemi be
23:26expecting to get the ball
23:28past him in that spot in transition
23:30yeah
23:32he did have a steal
23:34he did have nearly a
23:36charge taken
23:38he was called for a block instead
23:40I think there will be much
23:42better days for Baylor Shireman
23:44it's not the best sign
23:46that he didn't play until
23:48a few minutes left in the fourth quarter
23:50but we've never
23:52really seen I guess
23:54Joe with
23:56we've definitely never seen him with a first round
23:58pick but we haven't really seen him try to
24:00like
24:02bring a young
24:04guy like that along
24:06like
24:08they wouldn't do that
24:10they definitely didn't do that two years ago
24:12they didn't do it last year
24:14I guess Nemi played some if you want to count Nemi
24:16he was in his third season
24:18Baylor's in a totally different situation where he's a
24:20first round pick in his first year
24:22so we'll see
24:24how that process goes
24:26we'll see if and when he earns minutes
24:28he did not earn himself
24:30any more opportunities
24:32during preseason
24:34over it was so
24:36he got it up
24:38though he got it up
24:40got three up
24:42yeah I mean he was
24:44Drew Pearson was putting him to shame out there
24:46Drew Peterson had a really
24:48good fourth quarter he put the whole fourth quarter
24:50yeah that whole fourth quarter offense kind of centered
24:52around him and he was getting him up
24:54and looked good doing it
24:56again because another guy again coming off the summer
24:58league that he had more
25:00downs and ups in that stretch
25:02but yeah with Baylor
25:04and I don't know for all the
25:06for all the Lonnie Walker
25:08quote unquote buzz we have there in terms of like
25:10where he stands on this
25:12roster right now just coming in for the last
25:14four minutes of the game I think it
25:16kind of tells you of like
25:18I mean and I expect he's
25:20going to play there's going to whether it's
25:22Sunday or next week
25:24there's certainly going to be times where most
25:26slash all the starters are resting and
25:28he'll get his chances but
25:30um I still
25:32I think like as far as you're like oh
25:34could he Lonnie Walker play his way into the rotation
25:36or something like that I like he's
25:38he'll be surprised he plays his way into a
25:40a roster spot at least at the
25:42start of the season at this point it seems like based on
25:44where he's at here and
25:46because of the financial reality he's going to have
25:48to have a good camp a good preseason
25:50to
25:52put himself in the mix really to
25:54to earn a roster spot
25:56it would take like
25:5810 million dollars of luxury tax payments
26:00to keep him around
26:02it would take getting rid of the
26:04flexibility of having one
26:06open roster spot
26:08so he's kind of
26:10up against it
26:12and yeah
26:14it's kind of stunning that he took this deal
26:16knowing those obstacles are there but
26:18maybe he kind of sees it as
26:20like I'm gonna have
26:22to go to the G League anyway probably so like I
26:24want to do if a team that's good I don't know I guess we'll
26:26we'll find out how this plays out but
26:28it is like a it's a tough climb for him
26:30from that standpoint
26:32yeah there's not going to be a lot of opportunity
26:34for him
26:36and I mean he played
26:38with like the main guys
26:40the main Celtics guys
26:42and maybe that's how they envision him
26:44he said the other day
26:46when he spoke to us
26:48that he
26:50was told by Brad Stevens you could spend
26:52some time in the G League that he was told by Brad Stevens
26:54your spot isn't guaranteed
26:56like obviously he's on an Exhibit 10 contract
26:58by nature those aren't guaranteed
27:00but he knows
27:02like his job's in jeopardy
27:04and
27:06not promised and
27:08it certainly looked like that today like given
27:10how they used him
27:12or didn't use him at all
27:14during like any of the
27:16game when they were
27:18using their better players
27:20or their rotation guys
27:22or even like Baylor
27:24Shireman played the first seven
27:26minutes in change of the fourth quarter
27:28and then Lonnie Walker came in
27:30for him I believe and played the rest
27:32so he was playing with like
27:34just guys that nobody expects to do anything
27:36except go to Maine so
27:38not great start for Lonnie
27:40he might have a tough
27:42climb to
27:44solidify a spot or
27:46earn a spot I guess solidify isn't the
27:48right word there. Football season

29:12Game Time today. What time
29:14is it? Game Time
29:16Um
29:18we can talk about the Tatum shooting
29:20probably for a reason
29:223 for 7. Right down the middle
29:24right down the middle
29:26we knew it was going to happen
29:28we knew it wasn't going to be like a
29:307 for 12 where everyone was like
29:32oh my god he's back
29:34and it wasn't going to be like a 1 for 9
29:36oh my god this guy is falling
29:38just a 3 for 7. He was aggressive hunting
29:40his shot though for sure
29:42I feel like he started the game
29:44looking for guys and then
29:46like you said then he got into looking for
29:48his own shot over the
29:50middle of that first quarter and yeah
29:52transition pull-ups
29:54um was
29:56kind of the only other
29:58rhythm offensively
30:00over the course of this game but
30:02I don't know it's kind of wow
30:0417 turners
30:06that feels like very low
30:08based on 23 for the nugget
30:10it was just a long sloppy
30:12game that
30:14but with
30:16some good effort levels so it was still entertaining
30:18if nothing else
30:20yep and obviously
30:22there was like it was
30:24going to be a super sloppy game
30:26in Abu Dhabi one week after starting
30:28practice if they had played it
30:30at a high level it would have been
30:32totally insane
30:34let's get to just kind of
30:36run through whatever notes we have left
30:38Luke Cornette
30:40tried like a 10 foot tip in
30:42and did
30:44not really come close
30:46I don't know what that was
30:48all about I think he was trying to tip it
30:50but he batted it at the rim from like
30:5210 feet away and it
30:54wasn't even close I don't know why he
30:56tried it it was ambitious he also
30:58had another tip in
31:00was sort of similar
31:02so that was like
31:04only fault I had in his
31:06game was just way too aggressive
31:08on tip ins
31:10Derek White had an
31:12awesome move to score past Jokic on
31:14the fast break like just
31:16just an awesome awesome move
31:18sort of hesitated
31:20went by him
31:22obviously Jokic isn't the best
31:24fast break defender
31:26but just a really really nice play
31:28it's not Celtics
31:30basketball until Drew Holiday
31:32does something totally
31:34indefensible and
31:36he pulled up for a three
31:38that hit the backboard crashed
31:40into the backboard and was
31:42just a wild Drew Holiday shot
31:44like those weird moments
31:46he has I missed it I love those
31:48it was awesome yeah I
31:50missed those too and I was very
31:52happy though not surprised that
31:54we were able to witness one in
31:56the first preseason game
31:58Springer came in and
32:00immediately played point guard
32:02I kind of liked his patience at times
32:04he
32:06there was one drive he didn't make the
32:08shot but he drove
32:10and the
32:12nuggets didn't really send a lot of help
32:14so he couldn't spray it to the perimeter and he
32:16just kind of patiently worked
32:18and muscled his guy and
32:20created like a little seven or eight footer
32:22that's the type of stuff that I think
32:24he can do that's the type of stuff that
32:26will
32:28help him sort of
32:30contribute offensively and so
32:32I liked what I saw
32:34from him from a patient standpoint from
32:36a passing standpoint
32:38the shot still has a long
32:40way to go but there's
32:42a lot to like with Jaden Springer he also like
32:44he got beat by Russell Westbrook a couple
32:46times but when he just moves
32:48his feet it's so hard to screen him
32:50he like stays attached to guys
32:52like there's literally no space between
32:54Jaden Springer and the guy who's guarding a lot of the time
32:56it's wildly impressive how
32:58how well he moves laterally
33:00and to combine it with the strength he does
33:02he has a chance to be such a
33:04great perimeter defender and that's probably
33:06why he's you know
33:08competing for minutes right now
33:10or seemingly competing for minutes right now
33:12yeah and he's so
33:14young from that standpoint
33:16even though this is his fourth year in the league coming up
33:18like it is the you can see the entry
33:20you can see why the they're willing to
33:22give up a decent second round pick for him last year
33:24and
33:26now this is clearly a huge
33:28season for him as he
33:30enters free agency
33:32this summer and then clearly the Celtics
33:34have a use for him if he can
33:36he's worthy of those minutes out of the gate
33:38more than his defense
33:40did you have anything else to
33:42in your notes?
33:44I love the
33:46they tested the new rule of the challenge
33:48at the end of the first quarter there
33:50yes they did they sure did
33:52Joe was pissed
33:54as it is it's like
33:56that was like the perfect tour sort of play
33:58to do that on but this is good
34:00that's A plus decision making by
34:02Matt Rounds and
34:04Joe there to go for that because it's like
34:06figure out what they're actually meaning by these
34:08type of calls like what and I guess
34:10I don't know what the defense was for that where it
34:12was clear that White got fouled but maybe they said he was turning
34:14to pass before he got fouled I don't know but that
34:16was fascinating to see that
34:18kind of go into motion
34:20yeah it looked on the replay
34:22like they didn't necessarily have
34:24great angles of White's arm getting
34:26hit while he passed I don't know
34:28that would be my guess for why it wasn't
34:30overturned but Joe was
34:32pissed he was like
34:34and Derek was pissed too
34:36especially at the initial call
34:38Derek just looked so surprised
34:40that there was no foul call
34:42and it was called out of bounds on him
34:46the only other thing I want to know
34:48is there was a
34:50hilarious sequence with Jordan Walsh
34:52where
34:54he missed a three hustled back
34:56and had a great great block at the other
34:58end like scampered back
35:00in transition to make a great block
35:02then caught it in transition
35:04and just bricked another three
35:08alright there's good there's bad
35:10he's still raw
35:12but I really did think
35:14that he played
35:16a pretty impressive game
35:18he did a lot of things well
35:20including
35:22he and Springer both had
35:24some big big offensive rebounds
35:26and
35:28they're the type of physical
35:30or I guess he's not
35:32super physical but
35:34gifted athletically wings
35:36that could help the Celtics
35:38on the glass with corner crashes
35:40if
35:42they're both in the rotation
35:44promising stuff there
35:46scrappy and athletic
35:48scrappy and athletic yeah
35:50that's a nice combination
35:52beyond that Jalen
35:54had that nice dunk
35:56oh yeah we didn't even know that
35:58before probably should have spoken
36:00about that it's kind of like run of the mill
36:02for him at this point but yeah
36:04that's certainly his highlight of the day
36:06and
36:08Drew's highlight obviously
36:1012 minutes for him they kept his the starters
36:12played bigger minutes for his staff like him
36:14them just keeping his minutes down
36:16because he's old and
36:18he played in the Olympics
36:20didn't get a lot of rest yeah
36:22um
36:24and then I thought JD had a pretty decent game
36:26like for
36:28the man can throw an alley
36:30you can throw an alley
36:32throw an alley
36:34like Terry Rozier
36:36should have called
36:38J.D. Davidson for pointers
36:40Terry was probably the worst
36:42alley-oop thrower
36:44I've ever seen for the Celtics especially for a guard
36:46who could throw some nice passes
36:48who just never worked but J.D.
36:50he's aggressive with it
36:52like to the point where sometimes it's
36:54totally insane but
36:56he throws he can really put
36:58it up there where only his guy can
37:00catch it sometimes
37:02are you in or out in Westbrook and Denver?
37:04I'm
37:06out definitely out
37:08I've been out on
37:10Russell Westbrook for a while now
37:12the one thing though that
37:14could work is
37:16he's a good cutter
37:18when he wants to be
37:20um
37:22and I think like
37:24if you can cut
37:26around Jokic
37:28that could work but
37:30they're trying to make more threes
37:32take more threes
37:34just seems like they're going in one direction
37:36he's going in another
37:38I don't know
37:40I'm not convinced
37:42he's going to be helpful but
37:44he's a legend
37:46legend
37:48we're legendary too
